Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

Out in the wilderness, where danger lurked everywhere, falling completely into a deep sleep was clearly not something a qualified traveler should ever do.

When Chen Mo, hovering between sleep and wakefulness, heard the distinctly abnormal howling of wind outside, his consciousness snapped back to full alertness almost instantly.

He quickly woke Pichu, who was sleeping beside him, then spread out his aura sensing, placing himself entirely on guard.

”Is it above?”

The maximum detection range of his aura was about twenty meters. Although there was no sign of any creature within his field of vision, Chen Mo could clearly sense that this unusual gale was forming high above Red Leaf Lake.

And for something to cause such a disturbance, it certainly couldn’t be an ordinary animal.

That left only one possibility—Pokémon.

”Judging by this, it doesn’t seem like they’re targeting me… but I still can’t let my guard down.”

Chen Mo took out the phone he used specifically for livestreaming and chose to go live.

It wasn’t that he was forgetting his professional duties at a time like this. Rather, if something truly went wrong, the viewers in the livestream might be able to offer some help from the sidelines. If he were really unlucky, maybe someone could at least collect his body and set up a grave for him.

Of course, that was just the worst-case scenario.

Ever since coming to this world and deciding to educate humanity about Pokémon, Chen Mo had already prepared himself for the possibility of death. But he didn’t believe he’d be unlucky enough to die here and now.

Once the livestream went live, viewers who had enabled notifications quickly trickled into the room.

[Oh my god, Mo-bao is streaming at this hour?!]

[Why does the stream quality look worse than usual?]

[Can’t sleep, Mo-bao? Did you want to whisper some secrets to us?]

”Thanks for tuning in to this emergency stream,” Chen Mo said rapidly while looking at the phone screen. ”Something urgent has come up on my end, so I can’t use my usual streaming equipment for now.”

”Everyone, listen carefully to the wind outside the tent. If my guess is correct, there are two Pokémon, and there’s a high chance they’re both Flying-type Pokémon fighting each other in the Red Leaf Lake area.”

As soon as he said that, the livestream instantly grew tense.

[That dangerous?! Mo-bao, you should run!]

[Yeah, Pokémon battles are terrifying. Of the Thirty-Six Stratagems, retreat is the best!]

[Are you guys dumb? Pokémon fighting each other, and you want Mo-bao to run out now? Wouldn’t that make him even more noticeable? What if he gets targeted the moment he steps out?]

[Oh, so you’re the smart one? Staying there makes him a sitting duck too! What if he gets caught in the crossfire?]

Everyone had their own reasoning, all born from concern, yet the viewers somehow started arguing among themselves.

”Thank you all for your concern, I—”

Before he could finish his sentence—

A heavy thud suddenly came from outside the tent, like something massive crashing into the ground. The chat instantly exploded.

[Holy crap, streamer run! The Pokémon fight has come over here!]

[Mo-bao, run! There’s no shame in retreating now!]

[Don’t just stand there, you’re killing me with anxiety!]

With the help of his aura sensing, Chen Mo finally saw it clearly this time. In the black-and-white outlines of his perception, the Pokémon that had fallen to the ground looked very much like a Pidgeotto.

At that moment, the world outside the tent gradually grew quiet.

Listening to the cries fading into the distance, Chen Mo understood—the battle was likely over.

”The winning Pokémon seems to have left the area. I’m going to step out of the tent now and check the situation.”

Pichu obediently leapt onto Chen Mo’s shoulder, its tiny face set in a serious expression, clearly ready to fight at any moment.

This scene alone made countless viewers even more nervous.

Only Chen Mo, who had already scanned ahead with his aura and knew that the Pidgeotto had clearly lost its ability to fight, remained relatively calm.

Moving carefully, he stepped out of the tent. Bathed in moonlight, he could clearly see a bird Pokémon lying not far away on the ground, in an utterly miserable state.

Before Chen Mo could say anything, the chat had already started shouting.

[I know this one—it’s Pidgeotto. I saw it during the day.]

[It’s hurt so badly… it looks like it’s about to die.]

[Pidgeotto hunted Magikarp during the day, and now at night it’s been attacked by another Pokémon and is on the brink of death. Suddenly I feel how cruel the Pokémon world is.]

[Mo-bao, can you think of a way to save this Pidgeotto?]

[Don’t joke around, okay? Mo-bao is here to educate about Pokémon, not a Pokémon doctor. Don’t act like he’s omnipotent.]

Ignoring the chaotic barrage of comments, Chen Mo walked straight over.

However—

When he subconsciously activated [Eye of Detection] to check the status of this ”Pidgeotto,” he realized that the result was completely unexpected.

(??? Affected by an unknown force…)

This body size—and you’re telling me it’s a Pidgey?!

Normally, a properly developed Pidgey stood at about thirty centimeters tall and weighed close to two kilograms. But this Pidgey in front of him was clearly approaching a height of nearly a full meter!

Yet after a closer look, it really was a Pidgey.

Compared to Pidgey, the most obvious features of a Pidgeotto were the three long pink feathers on its head and its red-and-yellow tail.

None of those traits were present here. Aside from its size and that unusually imposing aura, it truly was a Pidgey.

Chen Mo fell silent.

However, he also noticed this Pidgey’s ability, as well as the string of question marks in the physical condition panel—something that had never appeared for any other Pokémon before.

An unknown force…

Could this be the reason behind this Pidgey’s abnormal development?

”Pichu, pichu…”

Seeing the Pidgey covered in wounds, Pichu’s sympathy was clearly stirred.

”Don’t worry, Pichu. It can still be saved.”

In fact, based on Chen Mo’s speculation, under the influence of that unknown force, Pidgey’s injuries might even heal on their own over time.

But for Chen Mo, since the Pidgey had ended up right in front of him, he simply couldn’t bring himself to ignore the situation.

After gently soothing Pichu, Chen Mo pretended to return to the tent to look for supplies. In reality, he was preparing to use the system’s abilities to purchase items to treat the Pidgey.

Thanks to [Zhongxing-chan] for the tip, and thanks to [Xinhui Leng], [Qianyu Youlian], and [Ah Hui] for the monthly tickets. Our fan leaderboard already has nine big supporters now.

Also, thanks to everyone for the recommendation votes. Every day when I open the backend, I secretly rub my hands together in happiness because of your votes.

I took a closer look—[Zhongxing-chan] and [Xinhui Leng] both seem to be fellow happy code-writing workers. Zhongxing-chan also writes Pokémon novels like I do. If I remember correctly, his author avatar is from one of my favorite anime, Mushishi. I’ve used Ginko’s avatar on my QQ since high school. As for Xinhui Leng, they write a combination of Kamen Rider and Japanese entertainment novels(Brother E is still solid!), though sadly, Rider novels don’t have the best survival environment on Qidian.
