Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

”The suspects Hu Gen and Li Sheng robbed Mingyue Jewelry of a large amount of valuables. However, due to their poor motorcycle driving skills, the motorcycle was involved in an accident and ended up flying off and getting stuck on a roadside sign. With no way out, the two then chose to take another desperate gamble, hijacking the staff and customers inside the supermarket ahead.”

As the reporter spoke on television, surveillance footage was played on screen.

In the video, the motorcycle Hu Gen and Li Sheng were riding appeared to suddenly stall. Its speed slowed more and more, until it finally stopped not far from the supermarket entrance.

Thinking of the police who would soon arrive, the panicked pair fumbled with the controls. The motorcycle suddenly lurched forward, violently throwing both robbers off, then sailed up and got stuck on the roadside sign—leaving the two men sprawled on the ground, staring dumbfounded at the scene.

Even through their helmets, countless viewers could imagine the ridiculous expressions on their faces.

”This scene is definitely going to be turned into a meme by video creators later,”

Ah Hui said, lying in his hospital bed, barely holding back his laughter as he watched the news.

Shaking his head, he was about to change the channel when the reporter’s next words stopped him.

”According to eyewitnesses, just as the robbers were about to shoot a hostage, a young man who commanded a magical beast stepped forward and stopped the tragedy from happening.”

The footage cut to an interview with an extremely excited witness.

”At the time, I was fully focused on watching the two hostages being exchanged up front, when suddenly I heard a crackling sound beside me—like electricity. Naturally, it caught my attention, so I immediately turned my head. That’s when I saw the guy next to me sweating buckets, and his backpack was actually sparking with electricity.

”To be honest, I was completely stunned. Before I could even react, I heard him shout, ’Pichu, use Thunder Shock!’

”Next thing I knew, a yellow, mouse-like creature wrapped in electricity jumped straight out of his backpack—like a god descending from the heavens—and fired off a bolt of lightning. The robber was instantly fried into a lump of charcoal.

”This was the first time I’d ever seen a magical beast in real life. Holy crap, it was so cool! By the way, where did that guy get such a yellow electric mouse? I want to raise one too—can I?”

Ah Hui’s expression grew increasingly strange.

When the news played another clip, showing the yellow creature leaping high into the air under everyone’s gaze and releasing a dazzling burst of lightning, Ah Hui was now completely certain.

”What yellow electric mouse? That’s clearly Pichu, okay!”

He pulled out his phone and, using his not-so-agile hand, began searching. It didn’t take long to find a flood of reports about the incident.

In just a few hours, it had already climbed to the top of the trending charts.

Magical beasts hurting people were common enough—but magical beasts saving people, publicly, with solid evidence?

This was the first time.

[Magical beasts saving people? Yeah right, I don’t buy it.]

[Even official media reposted it… it probably isn’t fake.]

[An electric mouse, huh? Interesting.]

[The guy commanding the beast is a streamer on Little Broken Station called ”Chen Mo.” We usually call him Mo Bao. That yellow mouse was the one he captured during his last wilderness stream. According to his explanations, its name should be Pichu.]

[People are this bold now? They actually dare to raise magical beasts?]

[If magical beasts can be used by humans, why not consider using them to defeat other magical beasts?]

[The Pichu just saved someone. Thinking like that feels a bit wrong, doesn’t it…]

Ah Hui wasn’t surprised by the comments. At this moment, after watching the video several times, all he could think about was how unbelievably cool Pichu looked when it used Thunder Shock to interrupt the robber’s gunfire.

Damn it.

I really want a Pichu that can shoot electricity too!

Meanwhile, at the Anping City Criminal Investigation Division headquarters.

In the bustling office area, many police officers continued with their work, yet their eyes kept drifting toward the small yellow creature perched on a young man’s shoulder not far away.

”So this is a magical beast? It’s so small—completely different from the ones we usually deal with.”

”It’s kind of cute…”

”Cute, sure, but it’s also terrifying. Didn’t you see the robber sent to the hospital? He was almost electrocuted into charcoal.”

”Cute and strong—what’s wrong with that? The one who got zapped was a criminal anyway.”

”I’m really curious how he managed to make a magical beast this obedient.”

Hearing the whispers around it, Pichu twitched its ears and curiously observed the humans one by one.

This might have been the first time it stood so openly on Chen Mo’s shoulder, being scrutinized by so many humans.

”Pichu pi…”

A little dizzy, and a little scared.

Pichu instinctively hugged Chen Mo’s shoulder tighter.

Having just finished his statement, Chen Mo felt the slight increase in weight on his shoulder. He gently stroked Pichu’s back, then smiled at the middle-aged officer in front of him.

”This little one hasn’t been in the human world for very long yet. It’s still not fully used to things.”

”I see,”

The officer smiled as well.

”In that case, try to let it stay out in the open more often in the future. No need to hide our little hero inside a backpack anymore.”

With those words, Chen Mo finally felt at ease.

In truth, there were still no clear laws regarding whether humans were allowed to raise spirits. Bringing Pichu before the authorities for the first time had made him more than a little nervous.

But now, it seemed he had made the right choice.

At the very least, from the officer calling Pichu a ”little hero,” a certain attitude was already becoming apparent.

”You and Pichu did exceptionally well this time. Because of you, an entire family’s future was saved. In a few days, we hope you’ll come by again—we’ve prepared some small gifts as a reward.”

The officer stood up and lightly patted Chen Mo on the shoulder, smiling kindly.

”No need to decline. This is the wish of Mr. Chen, the person you saved. We’re merely passing it along.”

”Well… to be honest, I might be heading back into the wilderness for another stream soon, so—”

”That’s fine. It’s just a private commendation. You can come after your stream ends.”

Since the officer had already said this much, Chen Mo could only agree.

At that moment, another thought suddenly occurred to him. Since the robber Pichu had incapacitated was actually Mr. Chen in disguise, what had happened to the other real robber?

Not wanting to be targeted by such a dangerous criminal, Chen Mo decided to ask.

”Oh, him?”

The officer’s expression turned a little strange.

”He turned himself in.”

”He… surrendered?”

”Yes.”

The officer nodded.

”To be honest, these two robbers were also pitiful people. Because of the arrival of magical beasts, the industries they worked in suffered an unprecedented freeze. They lost their stable sources of income as a result…”

A while later.

After seeing Chen Mo and Pichu off, the middle-aged officer looked at the harmonious scene of one human and one spirit walking away together, and let out a soft sigh.

He turned around, took out his phone, and quietly dialed a number.

”Professor Zhou, it’s me.”

”Yes, it’s been confirmed. It’s him.”

”You can tell—even though it’s been less than three days, his bond with that Pichu has already grown much stronger. This incident was thanks to him stepping forward.”

”He’s been thinking, too. After I told him about the two robbers’ story, you could clearly sense a change in his mindset.”

”Yes. To be honest, I’m starting to understand your viewpoint now. In that young man, I really do see a glimpse of the infinite possibilities of a future where humans and magical beasts coexist.”

”Heh, so you’ve started calling them ’spirits’ as well?”

”Alright, I understand. He’s already agreed—he should come when the time comes.”
