Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

Before today, no matter how hard they tried, the viewers in the livestream would never have believed that such a harmonious scene between humans and monsters could exist in this world.

”Turns out, once you’re full, you really do get sleepy.”

Chen Mo leaned back against the wooden bench, eyes half-closed, his face clearly saying I don’t want to move anymore.

”Pichu, pichu…”

Lying beside him, Pichu let out a sound of wholehearted agreement.

Just like that, a long while passed. Suddenly remembering that he was still a streamer, Chen Mo glanced at the phone beside him.

[This livestream is just unreal.]

[Pichu and Mo-baby, what are you even doing?!]

[I’m speechless. These two foodies haven’t paid us any attention since they started eating. I’m seriously impressed.]

[If you fall asleep outside like this, it’s easy to catch a chill. Streamer, you didn’t even set up a tent—hurry up and get moving. Oh, and don’t forget to take Pichu with you.]

[Mo-baby, didn’t you say Pichu is a social Pokémon? Since this one’s separated from its group and still in its juvenile stage, I really think you should take it home. Leaving it to wander around out here alone—you’d be worried too, right?]

What does that mean?

Watching the stream for quite a while now, Hu Chengliang frowned.

Judging by these comments, did this streamer actually intend to raise that small electric rodent?

What happened next left Hu Chengliang completely dumbfounded.

On screen, Chen Mo turned to look at the Pichu beside him and asked seriously,

”Pichu, would you be willing to leave here with me and live together from now on?”

What a straight ball!

Lying in his hospital bed, Ah Hui—who had unknowingly watched all the way to this point—felt an inexplicable tension as he stared at Pichu on the screen.

”Pichu…”

Clearly understanding Chen Mo’s words, Pichu’s face showed hesitation.

It pointed at the pink patches on its cheeks. Weak electric arcs suddenly crackled and sparked from those rosy spots.

Pichu’s expression gradually grew dejected.

But just then—

Chen Mo suddenly reached out and placed his right hand on Pichu’s small head, startling it into hastily retracting the electricity around its body.

”Don’t worry. You’re still very young, and the electric sacs in your cheeks are too small—that’s why electricity leaks out. Once you grow up and evolve into Pikachu, you won’t have to worry about this anymore.”

”Pichu?”

Pichu lifted its head slightly, as if asking whether what he said was really true.

That reaction only made Chen Mo more certain that this Pichu truly was a Pokémon separated from its group.

”Of course it’s true. If you stay with me, you should be able to evolve into Pikachu much faster.”

Chen Mo gently rubbed Pichu’s fluffy little head.

”And I’ll also prepare lots of delicious food for you.”

Before he could even finish speaking, Pichu’s eyes suddenly lit up. It picked up the ketchup bottle beside it, as if asking: Including this?

”Of course. As much as you want.”

”Pichu, pichu!”

Pichu quickly made its decision. Following Chen Mo’s outstretched right hand, it nimbly climbed and hopped along his arm, soon landing on his left shoulder.

The result spoke for itself.

The smile on Chen Mo’s face was completely uncontrollable now.

This Pichu really was a little foodie.

A thought suddenly rose in Chen Mo’s mind—if he’d taken out the ketchup to tempt Pichu earlier, the ”capture” might’ve succeeded much sooner.

”From now on, let’s take good care of each other.”

He rubbed Pichu’s little head again.

This time, Pichu was clearly even more affectionate than before. It half-closed its eyes, quietly enjoying Chen Mo’s gentle petting.

”Pichu…”

Suddenly, arcs of electricity crackled once more from Pichu’s cheeks.

This time, completely relaxed, Pichu failed to pull the electricity back in time. The current instantly surged into Chen Mo, making his smooth bangs stand straight up—he looked just like a Super Saiyan.

”Pichu!”

Finally realizing what had happened, Pichu hurriedly retracted its electricity. Looking at Chen Mo, its face was full of worry and self-blame.

”Pichu…”

”It’s okay.”

The smile on Chen Mo’s face didn’t fade in the slightest. Instead, he comforted Pichu.

”If I’m going to live with you, I was already mentally prepared for this. Besides, after a bit of electric ’therapy,’ I actually feel more refreshed now.”

”Pichu?”

Apparently misunderstanding Chen Mo’s meaning—and thinking he liked being electrocuted—Pichu actually released a bit of electricity again.

[Hahahahaha, Mo-baby, are you and Pichu doing a comedy routine?]

[Pichu: You all heard it—he said getting shocked makes him energetic. I’m just helping him (confident face).]

[Mo-baby thought this move was cool, but ended up shocking himself silly.]

[Hey, but seriously, the first half of what Mo-baby said was really touching. If I were a Pokémon, I’d follow him too.]

[You can tell Mo-baby genuinely loves Pokémon.]

[Getting electrocuted for Pokémon—if that’s not love, what is? Haha, just joking. But honestly, I couldn’t do something like that right now. Still, after watching the stream to this point, I really feel a lot. Wishing Mo-baby the best—hope you achieve your dreams.]

[Blessings.]

After getting zapped numb once again, Chen Mo took quite a bit of explaining before Pichu finally understood that he didn’t actually enjoy being electrocuted.

From this little incident, Chen Mo also realized something—

When dealing with Pokémon, don’t beat around the bush. Sometimes, a straightforward approach really is the best solution.

Still—

I’ve captured Pichu!

Looking at Pichu, Chen Mo’s face was filled with unconcealable joy.

Perhaps infected by Chen Mo’s smile, the Pichu perched on his shoulder started grinning foolishly as well.

At this moment, the sight of one human and one Pokémon smiling together stirred an inexplicable warmth in the heart.

At least, that’s how Hu Chengliang—sitting in front of his computer—felt.

He thought that he would probably never forget the scene he saw in this livestream today, never forget the moment when that young man and Pichu laughed together.

”It’s truly unbelievable…”

A strange feeling surged up in Hu Chengliang’s heart.

Perhaps—

This scene would become the beginning of peaceful coexistence between humans and monsters.

Or rather—

At this point, calling them Pokémon seemed far more fitting.

Hu Chengliang thought silently.

At the Monster Research and Countermeasures Bureau, Pokémon were often delivered to them for research. But these wild Pokémon, specially escorted there, were almost always filled with hostility toward humans.

Faced day after day with ferocious Pokémon that frequently lashed out and attacked, even if they looked cute on the outside, researchers gradually lost any fondness for them.

So—

Perhaps he, too, should follow that young man’s example and go out into the wild to see what Pokémon out there were really like…
