Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

News spread quickly. From last night onward, those fans who had witnessed Pichu’s capture process from start to finish in Chen Mo’s stream began tagging him nonstop in the fan group.

Left with no other choice, Chen Mo started a new livestream early in the morning.

[Twenty-four hours—do you know how I survived the entire day you didn’t stream?!]

[Good morning, Mo Bao. You know what I mean, right? Where’s Pichu?]

[This clueless assistant is really something—hurry up and call out our streamer Pichu already.]

[I came here because of the hype. Streamer, I want to know how you tamed a magical beast.]

[I’ve watched that video over ten times. Pichu was way too cool—now I want one too, so Mo Bao, you have to take responsibility!]

Even though the stream had just gone live, a massive crowd immediately poured in. Some viewers had even been waiting there while the stream was still a black screen.

”It’s only seven in the morning. Why are you guys up so early…?”

Chen Mo looked at the dense flood of comments. Already quite experienced at handling this kind of situation, he felt no panic at all and instead started chatting casually with the audience.

[Seven is early? Anyone not awake at this hour is a lazy dog!]

[Cultivating immortality—who sleeps that early?]

[The guy above probably pulled an all-nighter…]

[You don’t seriously think we’re here to see you, right? Where’s my Pichu?]

[Mo Bao~ it’s fine, I’m here to see you~ (and also Pichu, by the way.)]

Heh.

Before Chen Mo could even respond, the chat suddenly exploded.

[Pichu, my precious little cutie, you’re finally here!]

[Streamer, move aside—don’t block my view of Pichu.]

[Hey assistant over there, can you be more professional? You talk too much and keep blocking streamer Pichu. Seriously speechless.]

[The way Pichu walks is so cute~ I’m jealous. How do I get a Pichu like that?]

[Easy—first you go into the wilderness like the streamer.]

[NOPE!]

Turning around, Pichu slowly walked into the living room, hugging an apple nearly one-third the size of its body. Upon seeing Chen Mo, it naturally wanted to climb up to the place it found most comfortable—Chen Mo’s shoulder.

But with an apple clutched tightly in its arms, and relying only on its short little legs, Pichu simply couldn’t make it up. It tried again and again, slipping down each time, yet stubbornly refused to let go of the apple.

Seeing Pichu both anxious and conflicted, Chen Mo smiled. He gently picked Pichu up and placed it on his shoulder.

”Pichu~”

Delighted, Pichu immediately rubbed its fluffy cheeks against Chen Mo’s face.

The livestream erupted in envy.

[Damn you, Mo Bao, hogging our Pichu all to yourself.]

[┭┮﹏┭┮ I want to cuddle with Pichu too…]

[Shocking—what kind of charm does this man possess, to make a spirit do something like this?!]

[I’ve always been a loner who doesn’t like raising pets, but after seeing Pichu, I kind of want to change my mind.]

[Raising a Pichu is great—cute to look at, and most importantly, it can protect you when things get dangerous.]

[So jealous!]

[Why does Mo Bao always feed Pichu apples or tomato sauce? Can’t you give it something more nutritious?]

A flashy paid comment popped up.

Chen Mo glanced at Pichu, happily gnawing on its apple on his shoulder, and smiled.

”Thanks to this viewer for caring about Pichu.”

”As I mentioned in yesterday’s stream announcement, today’s main objective is to head deeper into Hongjingpo Forest Park and look for more spirits we haven’t personally encountered yet.”

”But there’s one more thing I didn’t explain in advance. In today’s stream, aside from educating everyone about spirits, I’ll also be trying to find some special foods.”

”These foods didn’t originally exist in our world. They descended along with the spirits—gifts from the heavens. Because they contain abundant energy, they’re extremely popular among wild spirits.”

As soon as he said this, most viewers were stunned.

There’s such a thing?

[Heaven-gifted food? Sounds interesting.]

[It sounds really tasty.]

[I have a question—if spirits can eat them, can humans eat them too? And will anything happen afterward?]

[The guy above is thinking of Devil Fruits, aren’t you… but I’m curious too!]

Facing the viewers’ doubts, Chen Mo didn’t try to hide anything.

”Most of them are edible. For example, there’s something called a Berry. There are many kinds, with a wide variety of flavors. When spirits eat them, they can even gain magical effects.”

”As for whether humans will experience changes after eating them—so far, as far as I know, no. For humans, most berries are just fruits with unusual flavors.”

Hearing this, the viewers couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed.

Still, faced with something entirely new, their curiosity only grew stronger.

Some viewers were already asking whether Chen Mo could find these special foods and sell a bit to them so they could try them.

Meanwhile, in the capital.

Hu Chengliang, who was also watching the stream, felt his interest piqued. He turned to his friend in a white lab coat beside him.

”Do things like that really exist?”

The man in the lab coat shrugged.

”How would I know? I haven’t explored the wilderness. No idea. Anyway, I don’t know.”

”So what use are you, then?”

”As if you know any better.”

The two glared at each other like hostile idiots—until a powerful, authoritative voice rang out, causing them both to stiffen.

”What are you two arguing about?”

Professor Zhou strode over, wearing black-rimmed glasses. His silver hair was neatly combed, and he looked energetic and sharp.

”Don’t bury yourselves in your own work all day. You should interact more with the outside world—especially here at the Response Bureau. Your colleagues are all elites selected from across society. Many of them know things far earlier than ordinary people.”

”With a little effort, you wouldn’t be clueless about even something Xiao Mo mentioned—like berries.”

”Xiao Mo?” ×2

”What? Is there something wrong with how I addressed him?”

Professor Zhou raised an eyebrow.

The two men immediately shook their heads.

”Over here, we usually call berries ’mystic fruits.’ Their effects are pretty much what Xiao Mo described. As far as I know, a military expedition once personally witnessed a spirit recovering part of its injuries by consuming berries…”

While Professor Zhou continued explaining, Hu Chengliang and the other man quietly took out their phones and started messaging each other.

”Looks like the professor really values this Chen Mo.”

”Obviously. Didn’t you see how smug he was last night during the meeting when he used Chen Mo’s Pichu as an example?”

”Oh no… are we about to get a new junior disciple?”

”Heh, who knows…”

Just as the two were typing furiously, Professor Zhou suddenly turned his head, startling them so badly they nearly dropped their phones.

”Today’s task for you two is simple. Watch Xiao Mo’s livestream and record any useful information you find. I shouldn’t need to teach you how to do that.”

”Especially you, Chengliang. Didn’t you say you wanted to work on the front lines? Then start by learning how to interact with spirits from Xiao Mo.”

He paused, eyes thoughtful.

”I’m becoming more and more curious—just where did Xiao Mo learn all this information about spirits?”
