Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

”Tsss~~”

The sound of liquid spraying rang out. Feyler, bound to the side, opened his mouth, panting weakly; on his throat, there was now a long, ferocious scar.

The Bloodline Killing curse wiped out Legas’s entire clan, but as a Level 11 powerful expert, the Origin Energy within Legas’s body possessed unimaginable resistance to this kind of bloodline assassination method.

In other words, Wen Yu couldn’t touch Legas.

And Wen Yu hadn’t planned on touching him...

One of Wen Yu’s carbon copies was casually cleaning up the filth left behind by Feyler’s death, while the other held a mirror. In the mirror, the figures of Legas and the Black River Sovereign—one chasing, one fleeing—were clearly visible.

Faraway Proximity, an Esoteric Level item, had once been a collection piece in the Yanjing Secret Treasury. In Wen Yu’s words, it was basically a little toy specialized for peeping, but tools aren’t about high or low—what matters is using them in the right place.

Facing the Black River Sovereign, whose strength was obviously several leagues above his own, Wen Yu couldn’t possibly get close to observe their battle, so at this moment, this Faraway Proximity finally had a chance to show its worth.

”Legas has lost, the gap is ridiculously huge. Mm, he’s fleeing into Philip’s territory, but Philip refused to provide him sanctuary. Now Legas is leading the Black River Sovereign on a run toward the Desolate Border. From the looks of it, the Black River Sovereign—or rather, the Demon Spirit—doesn’t intend to let Legas off this time.”

The other Wen Yu waved his hand, purifying Feyler’s broken remains clean, then spoke.

”Legas fleeing into the Desolate Border was within expectations. The Demon Realm may be vast, but aside from the Desolate Border, there’s nowhere left that can shelter a loser. I just didn’t expect the plan to go this smoothly.”

”Exactly, Legas really is an even bigger idiot than I imagined...”

The other Wen Yu let out a sigh—slaughtering Legas’s entire clan and framing the Black River Sovereign for it had originally been a casual move. If it worked, great; if it didn’t, there wouldn’t be any real loss.

But unexpectedly, Legas truly had no idea how many pounds and ounces he was worth.

”So next...”

The other Wen Yu curled his lip.

”It’s our turn to make a move.”

...

The killing intent coming from behind, from the Black River Sovereign, made Legas’s hair stand on end.

All sorts of treasured items had long since been thrown away by Legas; his life-saving methods were already exhausted, and even his number of resurrections had been beaten down by the Black River Sovereign by eighty percent.

He was about to enter the territory of the Desolate Border, yet even now, the Black River Sovereign’s pursuit hadn’t stopped—like a soul-reaping fiend who would never rest until his goal was achieved!

”I’m willing to relinquish my status in the High Council, I only beg you to spare my life!”

With things at this point, Legas had already abandoned that pitiful shred of dignity he had. He begged, pleading for the Black River Sovereign to spare him a path to live. But the Demon Spirit’s will was fixed; the Black River Sovereign had received his true body’s command and simply accelerated once more, chasing Legas until he was half-dead, half-floating on air.

Suddenly, a strange Spiritual Fluctuation came from the distance.

”Northeast direction, one minute away. That’s your way out.”

The unfamiliar Spiritual Fluctuation sent a jolt through Legas. He sharply sensed something fishy in it, but just then a green light tore across the sky and directly blew his head into pulp.

A single daze cost him one resurrection.

With inertia, Legas’s body continued to pitch forward. Just as his speed began to drop, Legas resurrected again. At that moment, he no longer dared harbor any stray thoughts. He simply clenched his teeth hard, then changed direction, flying toward the place indicated by that Mysterious Man’s voice in his mind.

Until a stretch of desolate sandy ground came into view.

...

Hovering in the sky above, Legas circled the area, trying to find the Mysterious Man who had just sent him that warning. But no matter how he searched, he still couldn’t find anything unusual at all.

”Where is he? Where is he?”

Panicked and terrified, Legas looked around in all directions, shouting at the top of his lungs, yet the surroundings remained deathly still.

Until a mocking voice sounded behind him.

”The one you’re looking for is right here...”

The instant the voice appeared, the Black River Sovereign’s enormous body, more than thirty meters tall, had already flown up beside Legas.

A raging gale, thick with a pungent stench of rot, poured into Legas’s facial orifices in the blink of an eye. Only when the two were facing each other did Legas truly sense the gap between himself and the Black River Sovereign.

Just like their current sizes—three meters versus over thirty meters—like a corgi standing at a tiger’s paw. The overwhelming aura disrupted and even sealed the surrounding space. The terrifying killing intent and pressure made cold sweat burst out of Legas uncontrollably.

”Senior, I...”

”Boom!”

With that strike, space shattered. The Black River Sovereign’s gigantic claw spread open in an instant, then, with lightning speed, reached Legas’s head.

Legas didn’t even have the slightest room to react; he could only watch as the Black River Sovereign’s right hand clamped down on his skull. Then that arm exerted force and directly hoisted Legas up before the Black River Sovereign’s eyes.

”Don’t spout useless crap. Just die obediently, isn’t that easier?”

Legas still wanted to beg for mercy, but the next second, the terrifying venom had already started to boil!

Like molten wax, the Black River Sovereign’s right arm instantly softened, then dripped downward. Beads of thick green liquid wriggled like living things, crawling over Legas’s body and burrowing in through every pore and opening.

Legas’s eyes bulged round. He could only feel every part of his body beginning to soften and mutate. As the Origin Energy within him rampaged, Legas instinctively tried to force out the invasive foreign energy, but an even greater, stronger torrent of Origin Energy poured into his body along the Black River Sovereign’s arm.

Legas resisted for only three seconds before completely losing all signs of life.

...

In the distance, outside the Black River Sovereign’s sensory range, two Wen Yu stood side by side, observing Legas and the Black River Sovereign’s every move through the Faraway Proximity.

”When do we make a move?”

”Wait a bit longer.”

Having spoken, this Wen Yu carbon copy glanced casually at the oddly shaped wristwatch on his hand, then spoke again.

”Legas’s resurrections are down to 582. Let him keep dying for now, and at the same time wear down the Black River Sovereign a little.”

Though he said this, the stern expressions on the two Wen Yu’s faces were enough to show that this operation was far from as ”fully under control” as it appeared.

The existence known as the Black River Sovereign, in truth the Demon Spirit’s avatar, was a bit stronger than Wen Yu had estimated.

The two Wen Yu fell silent again. After a while, one of them finally sent a Spiritual Fluctuation into Legas’s ears as he was being tortured.

”Resist, hold on. I can save you...”

”...”

Legas didn’t react at all. He was like a puppet, dying over and over in the Black River Sovereign’s hands.

”Damn fool, at least fight back, would you...”
