Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Every morning when I wake up, it’s a new day.

A busy day, a simple day, a boring day, a repetitive day...

Much like the emperors of ancient Cathay, facing morning court sessions (remote meetings), reviewing memorials (reading documents), and making decisions. It seems honorable from afar, yet truly, they are confined to a fixed space, doing the same things over and over. All in all, Mountain Kui’s life is monotonous... so monotonous that he even suspects he’s trapped in some magical time-loop skill.

This early morning, Mountain Kui woke up in the central control tower of the main city in the tiered battleground, took a bit of Soul Crystal stone as his breakfast, and then entered the frantic meeting flow—coordinating with Cloud Puppet to discuss the dynamics of the Eternal Sky City. Coordinating with Corpse puppet to discuss the state of the front lines. Coordinating with Water Dummy and Wood Puppet to discuss the activities of mutant creatures, and with Nightmare and Darkness Puppet to discuss the movements of the Treasure Land Protector.

They occur daily, but from a certain perspective, these meetings are truly boring—because nothing ever happens!

It’s like a job, tedious and dull, yet these communications make up Wen Yu’s surveillance on Earth and the tiered battleground—even though across two worlds, Wen Yu can grasp the world’s affairs without missing a beat.

Of course, these days there really doesn’t seem to be much happening on this earth.

Wen Yu once said, neither his nor Tang Haofei’s existence should be seen merely as this world’s blessing; from some perspective, both are also the source of disaster, carrying death halos around. Wen Yu heads to the Demon Realm, while Tang Haofei hides away, and surprisingly, without the presence of top elite experts, factions led by Yanjing have been able to contest the Demon Tribe hit for hit, with small victories one after another and significant victories monthly. In short, the battle progresses clearly.

Given this perspective, Wen Yu and Tang Haofei indeed seem redundant to this world...

A voice from Cloud Puppet echoes in his mind.

”I have modified most of the master control system of Eternal Sky City; the remaining portion is in Lin Haifeng’s hands. He came to find me a while ago, to discuss the matters regarding the ownership of Eternal Sky City. I believe this matter should be decided by you.”

”What’s your opinion?”

”Half each, minding our own business. I can ensure that Eternal Sky City won’t become our enemy, but for Lin Haifeng, I think we should give him some face...”

Listening to Cloud Puppet’s summary, Mountain Kui thought of his master’s style and the complicated relations with Yanjing. After a moment, he made a decision: ”Let’s leave things as they are for now.”

In the span of these two sentences, Corpse puppet’s voice chimed in his mind.

”The Demon Tribe is planning a major move, do you want your underlings to come over and take a share of the spoils?”

”Just let you handle these matters.”

”And those Demigods, they’ve been very active at the front lines recently. The Demigods somehow managed to unite seven super-large gatherings. Tsk tsk, not caring about quality but just numbers, they’re a match for Yanjing.”

”That matter is unrelated to us; we just do our own work properly.”

Going back and forth, everyone’s message exchanges concluded, ending this morning meeting just like that. What followed was Mountain Kui’s next task.

Inventorying the gains from the main city of the tiered battleground and the Star of Africa, abbreviated as accounting work.

The development of the Star of Africa is showing a drastic downturn—a situation that began when Wen Yu secluded himself two years ago, and now this descent is worsening once again. It’s expected; the Ring Star Sector tiered battleground is Earth’s future, contrary to it, the main city’s trade is booming.

By now, aside from the consumption by Corpse puppet and the daily usage by the Soul Puppets, the goods piled up in the warehouse have become a small mountain—not exactly a mountain of corpses and Soul Crystal stones, but space rings storing them piled up into a mountain!

When the master returns, they will surely be astounded by such gains, right?

Thinking this, Mountain Kui then stood up and pushed open the door, first taking a stroll around the main city of the tiered battleground, before hastily heading towards a hidden location within the city.

...

Standing before the yellowish-brown gate, Mountain Kui felt a wave of tension.

This is where Wen Yu once secluded himself; although Wen Yu has gone to the Demon Realm, Mountain Kui still comes here daily, keeping the place spotless—as if it were a ritual.

This is in reverence and gratitude to the master.

The bulky body seemed to slow down a bit, as Mountain Kui approached the gate and gently pushed it open.

The handle of the door had already been polished smooth by Mountain Kui. Accompanied by the piercing ”creak” sound, the door opened, and inside remained as tranquil and serene as yesterday.

At this moment, a feeling of disappointment suddenly arose in Mountain Kui’s heart, though Wen Yu’s absence didn’t affect anything, without the master, Mountain Kui felt a bit unanchored, like losing the cornerstone of his heart.

He picked up the broom by the wall, unhurriedly sweeping the dust off the floor. Despite the daily sweeping making the chamber pristine as new, Mountain Kui remained meticulous and careful.

Until he heard a light chuckle by his ear.

The voice was ethereal, illusory, seemingly a hallucination, yet felt so real.

”Not bad, you weren’t a wasted creation...”

The familiar voice ringing by his ear made Mountain Kui pause, awakening something deep within him. He abruptly turned around, and saw the familiar figure of Wen Yu.

”M... master...”

Mountain Kui’s voice seemed to quiver with excitement as it changed tone, while Wen Yu, with a face full of smiles, simply watched Mountain Kui. Only after a while, when Mountain Kui confirmed that the person in front was real and not some illusion, did he let go of the broom in his hand, his hands wandering aimlessly, not knowing what to do.

Until another figure appeared next to Wen Yu, making Mountain Kui realize, he knelt on one knee, passionately expressing his joy to Wen Yu!

”Welcome back, my master.”

...

”This puppet of yours is truly commendable!”

Bai, who appeared later, looked at Mountain Kui kneeling on one knee in front of him, exclaiming—with this world of scheming and deceit, perhaps only such beings whose life and death rest by someone’s command could show such unwavering loyalty.

No... even this isn’t guaranteed—like Ye Nan and his Avengers, whom Ye Nan had complete trust in, yet didn’t expect them to be entirely swayed by Bai... poor Ye Nan ended up inside Bai’s belly.

Faced with Bai’s praise, Wen Yu merely nodded lightly. He gazed at the familiar chamber around him, his heart welling up with sentiment...

Over three years have passed at a blink, experiencing numerous events in the Demon Realm, and now back on Earth, although Earth and the Demon Realm seem indistinguishable to Wen Yu, he indeed felt a strange sense of security.

At the end of the day, this is where he truly belongs!

After a moment, Wen Yu gave Mountain Kui his first command.

”Prepare something to eat; the food in the Demon Realm is simply nauseating!”

Bai nodded in strong agreement, while Mountain Kui promptly got up and went to carry out the order. Not until he reached the door did Wen Yu speak again.

”By the way, don’t let anyone know I’m back, including Cloud Puppet and the others.”
