Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Gunsmoke filled the sky, obscuring Wen Yu’s view. But deep down, he knew—that attack was actually aimed at him!

Then, Old Tang had forcefully pushed him out of the attack’s range!

Of course, Wen Yu wasn’t worried about Tang Haofei’s safety. Judging by the attack’s strength, Wen Yu roughly estimated it was equivalent to a casual blow from the Laughing Monk. Such a hit might cause some minor injuries to an unprepared Wen Yu, but it would be no more than a tickle to Tang Haofei.

Sure enough, Tang Haofei’s grumbling voice echoed through the haze of gunsmoke again.

”Considering I took a hit for you, can’t you tell me what on earth you did?”

Palpitation and Mad Medley slowly materialized in Wen Yu’s hand. Sensing the increasingly strong energy signatures approaching from afar, Wen Yu directly summoned his three soul pets.

As the life form that had launched the attack drew closer, Wen Yu actually relaxed—only one was approaching.

No, to be precise, it was just a Demon Fiend.

It stood over four meters tall, its four arms waving wildly, its body wreathed in Demonic Qi, and the black crystal on its forehead shimmered brilliantly. This was an Ancient Demon spawn of Limit Breakthrough Level 4.

With around 10,000 physique points, it was particularly formidable for Level 4. However, when facing Wen Yu and Tang Haofei—two human-shaped monsters themselves—it indeed seemed underwhelming.

At this moment, Wen Yu himself did nothing, merely making a slight gesture to his three soul pets.

Go, take it down!

Following the simple command, the three soul pets rapidly enlarged. Their towering bodies stirred up three whirlwinds as they ferociously pounced towards the nearby Ancient Demon spawn.

It was predictable that in less than a minute, this little setback would be effortlessly kicked aside by Wen Yu!

After arranging this, Wen Yu finally turned his gaze back to Tang Haofei.

Old Tang’s military uniform was torn to shreds. After all, one couldn’t expect standard-issue military uniforms from the Yanjing Assembly Site to withstand an attack from a demon spawn with 10,000 physique points!

At that moment, Tang Haofei stood in a deep pit, nonchalantly changing his clothes.

Wen Yu had no peculiar fetishes; he resolutely ignored Old Tang’s nakedness. He sat down on the spot, waiting for his three soul pets to finish the battle while he resumed planning their route.

The distance to the teleportation array formation of the Fifth Layer of Tiangong was not negligible.

As for the appearance of demon spawn, Wen Yu was already mentally prepared. He had encountered a fair number of Demon Fiends on his journey. Although he hadn’t seen a Limit Breakthrough Level demon spawn before, it was only natural that such powerful monsters existed within Tiangong.

Old Tang finished changing his clothes. Seeing that Wen Yu showed no intention of speaking, he didn’t want to be snubbed and simply sat down in the large pit created by the demon spawn’s attack. He then unconcernedly observed the combat prowess of Wen Yu’s three soul pets.

”Tsk, tsk. This power… looks like your gains were quite substantial.”

”Cyclops seems to have changed quite a bit. Looks like the Great Feast has taken effect.”

”Huh? Wait. This demon spawn… it seems a bit off…”

The first two sentences were just Old Tang spouting nonsense, but his last remark happened to align with Wen Yu’s own thoughts.

The demon spawn in front of them was indeed unusual…

Its body was a size larger than the average Ancient Demon spawn, and its eyes were slightly dull—of course, these weren’t important.

What mattered was the gaze of that Ancient Demon spawn…

Its crimson eyes unabashedly radiated a ferocious killing intent. However, this killing intent wasn’t directed at the three soul pets battling it; instead, its gaze persistently swept towards Wen Yu!

Strange movements, strange Demon Fiend…

Before Wen Yu could get a closer look, the distant demon spawn’s fingertips twitched slightly. Then, a laser-like Energy Wave shot rapidly towards Wen Yu.

That was the exact same sneak attack it had used earlier!

However, a surprise attack and a frontal assault are definitely two different concepts.

Seeing the Energy Wave abruptly sweeping towards him, Wen Yu’s expression remained unchanged. He lifted his right hand, and a pure black Energy Wave shot towards the one emitted by the Ancient Demon spawn.

The sound of an explosion, like two missiles colliding, echoed across the battlefield. With Wen Yu’s current power level, even a casual strike released an amount of energy that low-level professionists couldn’t possibly imagine.

The black Energy Wave pierced through the layers of dust, continuing towards the Ancient Demon spawn until it struck the fiend’s shoulder.

BUZZ!

A clear hum resonated. The moment the black Energy Wave made contact with the Ancient Demon’s body, its energy properties abruptly changed. It transformed directly into a black, saw-like blade, instantly severing one of the fiend’s arms.

A simple exchange had heavily injured the opponent, but this didn’t allow Wen Yu to relax in the slightest.

Because, as its arm was severed, the distant Ancient Demon spawn seemed to go berserk. It disregarded the grievous wound on its body—where Star had nearly bitten it in half—violently pushed aside Cyclops, and lunged madly towards Wen Yu.

Sensing the distant activation of the Netherworld’s force field fluctuations, Wen Yu quickly issued a command via their spiritual connection.

”Wait, Victor. Let it come over.”

As soon as Wen Yu spoke, the Netherworld’s power dissipated instantly. This power could have ensured that the demon spawn couldn’t escape Victor’s pre-set battleground.

But this wasn’t what Wen Yu wanted. What he wanted was…

The demon spawn, having lost an arm and riddled with wounds, had also lost much of its coordination.

Although its speed was still ferocious, its uncoordinated movements seemed full of openings to Tang Haofei and Wen Yu.

Wen Yu stared directly at the demon spawn as it continuously ran towards them. He watched it run past Tang Haofei, then saw Old Tang raise his hand.

Then, the demon spawn ran past Tang Haofei as if he wasn’t there…

Tang Haofei awkwardly scratched his head with his raised right hand…

Then, the demon spawn ran to within a hundred meters of Wen Yu!

”ROAR!”

The terrifying roar blasted directly at Wen Yu’s face. He could even smell the fiend’s foul breath.

”Go home and brush your teeth!”

BANG!

A heavy fist condensed from dark power struck the Demon Fiend’s face. The towering body of the Ancient Demon spawn was sent flying like a cannonball.

Wen Yu ignored the demon spawn, now pinned down again in the distance by Star, and directly sent a Spiritual Fluctuation to the Almighty Demon Vine.

”This time, you’d better explain.”
