Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Flame Light Grass (S-class Tool): Contains a large amount of fire attribute energy. It can be used to forge fire-attribute offensive tools, imbue weapons and defensive tools with fire attribute energy, or be consumed directly. After ingestion, the fire attribute energy in the Flame Light Grass will temper the host’s body, forcibly improving the body’s physical quality upper limit by 1 point after enduring a certain amount of pain.

A forced enhancement to the physical quality limit of only 1 point. This number seems pathetic at first glance. Nonetheless, from the description of the Flame Light Grass, it isn’t difficult to realize just how invaluable Limit Breakthrough Level abilities or tools are!

Looking at the large field in front of him, which contained at least a thousand Flame Light Grasses, Wen Yu touched his chin. He pondered briefly and decisively sent a Spiritual Fluctuation to Cyclops and Victor.

”If you two come across an item called Flame Light Grass, don’t consume it immediately. Instead, inform me of its location, and we’ll gather and distribute them together later.”

”Got it, Boss.”

”MEOW! Stingy. I don’t even have Limit Breaking Abilities yet. I want to eat some later.”

It seems Victor has discovered the Flame Light Grass, Wen Yu thought.

”Don’t worry, you’ll get your share!”

...

Wen Yu’s distribution plan was simple. Firstly, he definitely didn’t need it; with the Almighty Demon Vine in hand, Wen Yu didn’t need to waste Flame Light Grass. Cyclops’ Great Feast and the Almighty Demon Vine worked in a similar manner. Further explanation for Faceless wasn’t necessary—it was a soul pet that didn’t rely on physical quality to triumph. So, that left only Star and Victor... No, there was one more.

Thinking of this, Wen Yu slowly stepped forward, plucked a Flame Light Grass from the ground, and gently offered it to the little Soul Beast.

CRUNCH.

The pale red juice splashed all around; some even splattered onto Wen Yu’s face, giving him a slight burning sensation. The little Soul Beast’s mouth opened wide and gulped down the entire Flame Light Grass in less than three seconds. Its once dark body gradually turned red.

”Does it hurt?”

”It’s okay, just a little hot.”

The childish voice replied, easing Wen Yu’s worry a bit. In less than ten seconds, the red hue faded away. And under my observation, the physical quality of the little Soul Beast has indeed improved a little... But what’s the point? The little Soul Beast shares a symbiotic relationship with me. As long as I’m alive, the little Soul Beast will never die. However, the little Soul Beast has no combat ability, which means that increasing its physical quality limit is the same as me increasing my physical quality limit... No, there is a difference. The additional physical quality limit gained by the little Soul Beast can only be used when I enter a combat state—negative effects notwithstanding. This is quite a dilemma.

Hence, Wen Yu resorted to his gift of bluffing again.

He casually asked another question.

”Did it taste good?”

”It’s gross. Bitter, astringent, and too hot.”

The little Soul Beast’s reply was exceptionally honest.

”Good. I’ll find you tastier things later. We won’t eat these crappy things anymore!”

...

「Half an hour later」

The vast garden had been thoroughly devastated by Wen Yu and his two soul pets, and the brief raid came to an end.

Water Spirit Herb... useless, Wen Yu thought, forcefully stuffing a large area of delicate plants that looked like common weeds into his space ring.

”Little Potatoes, hmm, these aren’t bad. Didn’t you guys eat them?”

”Too disgusting, MEOW.”

”I ate them! I ate them! They didn’t taste like anything.”

”With your eating habits, it would be strange if you could taste anything,” Wen Yu scoffed at Cyclops. He then force-fed Victor a few small potatoes and took a few for himself. Looking at the hundreds of remaining Radix Rehmanniae on the ground, Wen Yu decisively gathered them. They’ll either be given to Star later or saved for future consumption.

Diamond Grass (A-Class item). It can enhance the body’s defense capabilities. Not bad at all. We’ll save these for Star, Wen Yu mused.

There were only a few dozen Diamond Grass left on the ground, seemingly depleted significantly by Cyclops and Victor. Of course, I’m not counting the ones I ate. If the boss doesn’t take advantage of his position for personal gain, what’s the point of being the boss?

Profound Element Grass (S-class Tool)... enhances the compression of spiritual energy? To hell with it, he thought, directly throwing the higher-ranked Profound Element Grass into his space ring.

”MEOW, the taste wasn’t bad.”

”I’ll leave them for you two as snacks. Also, Victor, do you eat things without reading their descriptions, just going by taste?”

”MEOW~~”

Victor rolled his eyes at Wen Yu and promptly lay down on the ground, remaining silent.

...

Wen Yu began sorting. Seven Star Peony, Late Snow Root, Hundred Mile Bamboo, Wild Stalwart Flower...

He set aside a large pile of spirit herbs that could offer some benefits if eaten raw. Most of them were medicinal herbs, with a few improving vision, sense of smell, outer skin defensive power, and the like.

Bitter Blossom, Five Poison Herb, Spirit Dissolving Root, Hundred Mile Red Bloom, Sun Gathering Flower... These items each serve different purposes—primarily toxic spirit herbs. Tricking others into eating them could achieve certain goals. As for the rest...

Wen Yu then looked at another pile on the ground: items that increased spiritual energy, changed spiritual energy attributes, or improved spiritual energy quality. He made a sweeping motion with his arm.

”Victor, see which ones you like. They’re all your snacks!”

The tasty ones will be snacks; the ones that don’t taste good will be sold to the military later—though they probably won’t fetch a good price. Regrettably, there’s an abundance of these things! Two different cultivation systems, two different worldviews colliding... it not only sparks innovation but also produces more useless trash.

After sorting these things out, Wen Yu turned his sights to a pile of around 3,000 Flame Light Grasses.

These are the greatest harvest from this medicinal herbs garden.

...

The maximum physical quality for Level 5 is 2,000 points. This is a fundamental rule that even a divine beast cannot escape. Without Limit Breaking Abilities, Victor and Star, despite their powerful abilities and the gifts of their divine beast lineage, have physical qualities that are a bit low in my eyes.

Once Victor had ”tasted” the useless spirit herbs, Wen Yu made a sweeping motion with his arm. A gust of wind blew from his hand, sweeping out half of the Flame Light Grass and piling it up in front of Victor.

”These are all yours!”

Victor didn’t stand on ceremony with Wen Yu. Even though his belly was now bulging, he forced himself to open his mouth wide and wolf down the Flame Light Grass on the ground.

The desire for power is an instinct embedded in the genes of all living beings.

Wen Yu swept the remaining Flame Light Grass into his space ring, then mounted Cyclops. He instructed Victor to wait where he was after eating, then set off on Cyclops towards Star’s location.
