Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 674: Chapter 56 Water Moon_1

The Laughing Monk, still lying on the ground, was twitching slightly, while Wen Yu remained standing beside him. This meant that the Soul Battlefield had no effect.

Wen Yu, with his Soul Strike ability, had previously discovered that lower-level entities like zombies didn’t possess souls. Now it seemed that the dead souls from the Universe of Immortals and Heroes were somewhat similar to zombies—they were both monsters controlled by instinct.

Upon witnessing this scene, the Almighty Demon Vine, which was concocting the Spirit Rhythm Immortal Pill nearby, sent out a Spiritual Fluctuation tinged with mockery.

”What are you thinking? These are all dead people. Oh, right, I just realized something. Your biggest trump card—the Soul Battlefield—is completely ineffective against these dead people. So, you have to quickly complete the Spirit Rhythm Immortal Pill. Once we...”

The Almighty Demon Vine was halfway through its sentence when it suddenly shut its mouth, causing Wen Yu, who was waiting for it to continue, to feel unsettled.

”Once we what?”

After a while, the Almighty Demon Vine finally spoke in a deep tone, ”I must say, you really are lucky... When I release the Soul Mark inside the Soul Bead, these dead souls from the Universe of Immortals and Heroes are effectively given souls again... However, a single Soul Mark can’t possibly match the strength of a complete Soul Body.”

”This means that at that point, your Soul Battlefield can be brought into play, and what you’ll be dealing with then are extremely weakened Soul Marks.”

The Almighty Demon Vine’s words immediately resonated with Wen Yu.

He could already guess how strong the souls of Level 10 and even Level 11 powerful experts were. But a residual Soul Mark recorded in a Soul Bead—how could its strength compare to a complete Soul Body?

Perhaps even a Level 10 powerful expert, upon being awakened, would find the Soul Mark controlling their body only had a pitiful strength of a few dozen points...

What was this? It was like a cheat code on top of a cheat code!

This also ensured that Wen Yu, when facing those higher-level powerful experts from the Universe of Immortals and Heroes, would have the means to resist them!

For a moment, Wen Yu felt that happiness had come too suddenly.

However, there was another problem.

With the Soul Battlefield ineffective, over half of Wen Yu’s strength was essentially nullified. With more than half his strength gone, how should he fight Daoless Child when the time came?

”Could you activate the contingency plan in the Soul Beads early? That way, I could directly crush that Daoless Child guy!”

”No way! Once these dead souls regain their consciousness, your killing of Daoless Child could possibly be exposed, and wouldn’t you then become a wanted criminal? So, boy, don’t think about those underhanded tactics; some things just can’t be avoided or escaped!”

...

After a while, the Almighty Demon Vine finished preparing the Spirit Rhythm Immortal Pill and returned it to Wen Yu.

Looking at the Spirit Rhythm Immortal Pill in his hand, Wen Yu couldn’t quite tell what kind of changes this little medicinal pill had undergone.

The tip of the Almighty Demon Vine twirled as if sizing up Wen Yu, then it ignored Wen Yu’s curious expression. Its vine curled slightly like a snake and drilled into the body of the Laughing Monk lying on the ground.

The Almighty Demon Vine was a treasure developed by the Universe of Immortals and Heroes specifically to deal with the Demon Tribe. When it consumed the flesh and blood of Earth’s organisms or the dead souls from the Universe of Immortals and Heroes, it would not provide Wen Yu with any extra physical attributes.

However, the Origin Energy of the Universe of Immortals and Heroes was substantial!

An unending stream of unknown energy transferred into Wen Yu’s body. The Origin Energy of the Universe of Immortals and Heroes accumulated and fermented within him, waiting for the day it would break free from its cocoon and transform into a butterfly.

Only when the Almighty Demon Vine had completely reduced the Laughing Monk to ashes did the hunt for the Laughing Monk finally come to an end.

...

After resting on the spot for a while, until his three soul pets had fully recovered their stamina, Wen Yu decisively said to the Almighty Demon Vine, ”Next location.”

”Probably to the south,” the Almighty Demon Vine replied. ”That’s where Water Moon is.”

”Water Moon is a female Peak Level 4 Breakthrough Achiever. She had originally been a rogue cultivator in the Universe of Immortals and Heroes but had fortuitously received a legacy from an ancient Transcendence Tribulation Stage sage, which had rocketed her to prominence. Her overall strength is roughly comparable to the Laughing Monk’s, but their combat styles differ completely—the Laughing Monk excels at one-on-one combat, while Water Moon possesses many area-of-effect abilities, and her ability system is strange and unpredictable.”

”Well, it’s like the difference in combat styles between you and Tang Haofei.”

”Got it,” Wen Yu simply responded, then recalled his three soul pets and headed south.

For Wen Yu, now that he had a general understanding of the strength of these former powerhouses from the Fourth Level of Heavenly Palace, regardless of Water Moon’s combat style or ability system, he was certain she could not cause much of a ripple for him!

...

Just half an hour after Wen Yu had left, a soldier dressed in camouflage uniform sporting the emblem of Cathay slowly crept onto the former battlefield of Wen Yu and the Laughing Monk from afar.

Although these tactical concealment movements were hardly of any use, they still conveyed the strong bearing of an elite soldier.

Only when he was 20 kilometers from the battlefield did the soldier subtly activate an ability.

A mysterious radiance circulated, and in nearly imperceptible flickers of light, the soldier’s figure slowly vanished; even his breathing and the fluctuations of his aura became almost non-existent.

Judging by the number of flashes from the soldier’s body, he had activated four abilities at once!

This was an elite scout specifically trained by the military.

However, it could only be said that the soldier’s timing was truly coincidental—or perhaps unfortunate. At 20 kilometers away, he was actually within Wen Yu’s perception range!

After consuming a large quantity of heavenly treasures, even though Wen Yu’s physical attributes hadn’t noticeably changed, other aspects of his abilities had indeed improved significantly. This was definitely beyond the military’s assessment of Wen Yu’s strength!

...

Perceiving no movements in his surroundings, the soldier activated his final ability.

Dynamic Perception (A-Class, Active Ability) allowed him to detect the movement of all objects within a certain range; the stronger the user, the larger the range.

Apart from the sand and soil on the ground, nothing else was moving within his perception range.

Trusting his ability, the soldier relaxed slightly. His movements became a little bolder; while still concealed, he rose from the ground and quickly ran toward the battlefield.

Ten minutes later, the soldier finally arrived at the battlefield.

Seeing the empty battlefield before him, along with the vast traces of combat and the disordered footprints of large beasts, the soldier paused in silence for a moment before taking out a communicator.

”Reporting to headquarters: The investigation of the massive energy signature on the Fourth Level is complete. Sequence Number 2 engaged in fierce combat with the Blue Monk at this location. Subsequently, the Blue Monk died, and Sequence Number 2 has disappeared.”
