Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Facts speak for themselves: the Origin Energy is real, and so is the Slaughter God Sword’s nourishment for the Almighty Demon Vine! At least, from their recent conversation, what the Almighty Demon Vine had said was likely correct.

However, Wen Yu couldn’t detect something. As the Almighty Demon Vine absorbed the Slaughter God Sword and its Soul Power grew stronger, a secretive and powerful Spiritual Fluctuation gradually emanated from its Soul Body. Within moments, this fluctuation reached a higher position in the Heavenly Palace!

「The Eighth Layer of Heavenly Palace!」

Deep within a hidden cave.

The ruined land and scattered bones seemingly narrated a ground-shaking battle that had once taken place here. An endless, chilly wind swept into the depths of the cave, rubbing against the walls to produce eerie, wailing sounds.

In the center of a broken array, an old man wearing a worn-out Daoist robe, thin and with a withered face, slowly opened his eyes as the Spiritual Fluctuation from the Almighty Demon Vine reached him.

He hadn’t moved for a long time, which had stiffened his body. Yet, peculiarly, the gleam in his eyes remained undiminished. He carefully savored the Spiritual Fluctuation sent by the Almighty Demon Vine, and a slight curl slowly appeared at the corners of his mouth.

Earth, Wen Yu, it’s finally time...

That little guy, Tongtian, is quite reliable.

The deep voice echoed throughout the cave. After a while, the old man slowly stood up, gently moving his stiff body. A series of CRACKLES AND POPS emanated from his body.

This body is too weak.

His melodious voice seemed to carry an unknown magic, instantaneously invoking certain invisible and imperceptible, inexplicable rules.

Immediately, a surge of Demonic Qi erupted from the old man’s body, then slowly subsided.

And then, the old man’s figure vanished.

...

Wen Yu was completely unaware of what was happening above.

Just as Wen Yu had initially feared, he was caught up in a higher-level contest. Everything was unknown, and Wen Yu could only take one step at a time.

To gain benefits and understand the truth, there were bound to be risks; Wen Yu was well aware of this.

It was unknown if Wen Yu would still have chosen to enter the Ten Heavens Palace had he known he was involved in a contest between two beings who regarded the former Almighty Immortal Emperor as a ’little guy’.

But at least for this moment, Wen Yu was jubilant!

Vast Origin Energy from the Universe of Immortals and Heroes was being constantly transported into Wen Yu’s body. Although there was no notable change in his strength, Wen Yu knew this was a necessary process to master a higher level of power.

Wen Yu was not in a hurry...

But when the Almighty Demon Vine suddenly cut off the supply of Origin Energy while Wen Yu was enjoying it, he indeed felt very conflicted.

”Is it over?” Wen Yu asked.

The Almighty Demon Vine nodded energetically. ”That’s it! There’s no more!”

An ’ear-splitting’ Soul Fluctuation transmitted into Wen Yu’s mind, making his brain buzz.

From this perspective, it seemed the Almighty Demon Vine had gained considerable benefits.

However, Wen Yu wasn’t concerned about this. As things stood, the stronger the Almighty Demon Vine became, the more benefits he would receive!

”Can you tell me how much more Origin Energy I need?”

The Almighty Demon Vine replied, ”You’re still missing more than half!”

This instantly gave Wen Yu a metaphorical toothache—the process of postnatal transformation into a divine beast type was absolutely a slow and painstaking one. At least in Wen Yu’s view, this speed was far too slow!

Sigh... Wen Yu heaved a deep sigh, looked at the Almighty Demon Vine, and slowly said, ”Is there anything else in here? Also, let me be clear: I need you, but I don’t want to be deceived. I think it’s better for us to be frank and open rather than you hiding things, right?”

Upon hearing Wen Yu’s words, the tip of the Almighty Demon Vine promptly nodded. ”Rest assured. This time, I just wanted to see my old comrades-in-arms and seize some benefits—not just for me, but for you too. I reiterate, I bear no ill will towards you!”

The Almighty Demon Vine’s words did not directly answer Wen Yu’s question, and it seemed it was not going to.

Perhaps sensing Wen Yu’s hesitation, the Almighty Demon Vine slowly crawled back onto Wen Yu’s wrist and said, ”Let’s go. Trust me, I mean you no harm. If I wanted to harm you, I would’ve done so when I was at my strongest upon awakening. Now, I cannot do without you, and you cannot do without me. I promise you, follow me, and all the treasures inside will be yours!”

Wen Yu gave a bitter smile. ”Do I have any other choice?”

”Yes!” the Almighty Demon Vine said. ”You can choose to leave directly. Leave the Ten Heavens Palace!”

Leaving directly would mean gaining nothing...

No way, this option wasn’t in the cards for him—if he had a cheat and still didn’t dare to take a gamble, what kind of person would that make him? Especially knowing that the Dominator would strike at professionists, this choice was absolutely unacceptable!

Besides, what real difference was there between dying sooner or later?

Having figured things out, Wen Yu declared, ”Let’s go. Let’s get out,” and headed directly for the exit without another word.

...

Outside, Cyclops and Tang Haofei were still chatting and messing around. Star, however, was carefree; it had transformed into a mini size and lay on top of Cyclops’s head.

The innocent Star decisively believed Tang Haofei’s words, firmly convinced that Tang Haofei would absolutely not try to force his way into the palace.

Maybe this was an understanding amongst divine beasts...

Cyclops had it rough. On one hand, he tried to distract Tang Haofei. On the other, he had to be wary of Tang Haofei’s sudden aggression. Exhausted, Cyclops simply lay on the ground, his tongue lolling out.

Tang Haofei, on the other hand, looked a bit drunk. He sat not far in front of Cyclops, muttering strange things non-stop.

”Little brother, when you go to Yanjing next time, Big Brother will introduce you to some pretty little bitches.”

”Let me tell you, Yanjing has a lot of war beasts, and quite a few canine types too. When you go, Big Brother will definitely set you up properly!”

When it came to being a chatterbox, Tang Haofei was definitely on par with Cyclops.

COUGH. COUGH.

It wasn’t until these light coughs echoed from inside the palace that Tang Haofei finally stopped his drivel and looked past Cyclops. ”How did it go? You gained quite a bit, didn’t you?”

Just when the Almighty Demon Vine was absorbing the Slaughter God Sword shards, Tang Haofei had already received intelligence—the energy field inside was rapidly disappearing, the meaning of which was crystal clear.

Wen Yu just nodded.

He didn’t have much to say to Tang Haofei—were they perhaps more friends than enemies? Who knew...
