Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 190: Chapter 146: Contraction! _1

With the death of the Ancient Demon, the Giant Dragon spat out its corpse and let out a triumphant roar!

Perhaps it was a victory shout after defeating a powerful enemy, or maybe a rush of hormones following a bloody battle.

The Little Dragon stepped on the corpse of the Ancient Demon, tilted its head back, and spewed hot Dragon Flames into the sky, painting it red like a grand firework display.

Who knew what went through its mind!

The battle between the Little Dragon and the Ancient Demon had ended, but the war was far from over!

After venting its excitement, the Little Dragon launched an assault on a nearby Third-level Demon Fiend!

The unleashing of top-tier combat power had a terrifying effect on the battlefield’s dynamics!

After the Little Dragon had torn apart three Third-level Demon Fiends in succession, the tide of the entire battlefield began to shift significantly in favor of the creatures of Earth!

This was a snowball effect!

With Cyclops blocking the Demon Realm’s Gate, the Little Dragon ruthlessly slaughtered the Demon Tribe’s Third-level Demon Fiends. The situation gradually began to clear up.

At this moment, Wen Yu was facing the greatest crisis since the start of the war!

A sharp battle axe swung toward his head, but Wen Yu swiftly dodged it. The Touch of Greed chopped at the black-robed figure, only to be caught by its seemingly emaciated claw!

The human and the demon had retreated to the foot of a large mountain, exchanging countless blows!

Wen Yu understood that tying down the black-robed figure and its puppet was the utmost he could achieve. Perhaps if Cyclops were here, Wen Yu could have risked his life to defeat the black-robed figure. Unfortunately, bound by the rules of this interdimensional battlefield, some things Wen Yu had to assess and decide for himself.

He’s certainly skilled at staying alive!

The black-robed figure tightly gripped the Touch of Greed as a wave of dizziness, a momentary blur, washed over its mind.

The Soul Strike’s effect caused the black-robed figure to falter momentarily. Unfortunately, with his weapon caught and his hands thus occupied, all Wen Yu could do was land several kicks, leaving large footprints on the figure’s body.

A whooshing sound came from behind him; the battle axe, wreathed in black flames, struck at Wen Yu once again, but he quickly dodged it using his dislimning ability.

Forcibly wrenching the Touch of Greed free, Wen Yu’s figure shot backward rapidly.

Looking at the black-robed figure and its puppet before him, Wen Yu couldn’t help but frown.

Wen Yu muttered under his breath, ”This situation is really troublesome!” His quiet words were somehow picked up by the black-robed figure opposite him.

”NYEH HEH HEH HEH!” its shrill voice cackled. ”This is just the beginning!” It then pressed its hand directly onto the Black Flame Puppet.

The puppet began to melt as if it were liquid, slowly fusing into the black-robed figure’s body.

Absorb (A-Class, Active Ability): Absorbs other objects to temporarily strengthen oneself. Living creatures may also be absorbed, provided they offer no resistance during the process.

As a puppet of the black-robed figure, the Black Flame Puppet naturally had no objections to this ability!

As the Black Flame Puppet slowly flowed into the black-robed figure, its body underwent a heaven-and-earth-shattering transformation!

Its originally emaciated body rapidly shot up, growing to over five meters tall. The black robe was ripped apart by the sudden growth, revealing the physique concealed beneath.

Its grayish-black body was covered in bizarre patterns, and its two pitch-black eyes emitted an eerie gleam. Black flames suddenly erupted all over its form.

Its hands and feet resembled those of a human but were disproportionately long.

It’s truly hideous!

Wen Yu had never encountered this type of Demon Fiend during the previous demon plague.

And the unknown signified danger.

Black flames flared from all over the black-robed figure as it raised its arms high.

A huge ball of black fire rapidly condensed and hurtled down toward Wen Yu!

Then, the black-robed figure, now in its new form, charged directly at Wen Yu.

In this state, the black-robed figure’s physical prowess would completely overwhelm Wen Yu.

Wen Yu sidestepped the black fireball and, spinning around, sprinted into the distance.

What a joke! It was obvious he couldn’t win a direct confrontation. Why would he stay and fight to the death? Wen Yu wasn’t about to do something that foolish; running was his only sensible option.

Augmented by Darkness Stride, Wen Yu’s speed was considerable. Combined with his smaller, more agile physique, the towering black-robed figure couldn’t touch him for the moment.

The chase began. One fled while the other pursued, their Third-level speed wreaking havoc on the surrounding flora.

「...」

While Wen Yu was leading the black-robed figure in circles, Li Shanlin and Zhang Lifei, who had earlier fled the battlefield’s center, had reached the edge of the barrier.

For living beings, instinct urges them to stay as far away from danger as possible.

Looking at the vast barrier before them, Zhang Lifei collapsed to the ground, panting heavily.

Fleeing was exhausting work!

”Are you okay?” Li Shanlin asked, looking at Zhang Lifei, who sat on the ground with a vacant gaze.

Li Shanlin and Zhang Wenhu had grown up as close as brothers. Consequently, Li Shanlin treated Zhang Lifei, Zhang Wenhu’s son, almost as his own.

Hearing Li Shanlin’s voice, Zhang Lifei shook his head without uttering a word.

”Don’t worry,” Li Shanlin said reassuringly. ”With Wen Yu and those mutant creatures here, this battle is as good as won. We just need to wait here for a bit.”

”Mm,” Zhang Lifei acknowledged.

Zhang Lifei took a bottle of water from his space ring and handed it to Li Shanlin. He then took out another for himself and began to drink deeply.

Seeing Zhang Lifei’s somewhat dejected state, Li Shanlin couldn’t help but sigh.

For a young man not yet eighteen, the trauma of losing his mother at a young age, followed swiftly by his father, was undeniably substantial. Zhang Lifei’s ability to remain composed under such circumstances spoke volumes of his mental fortitude.

Li Shanlin sat down beside Zhang Lifei, put an arm around his shoulder, and said, ”Once this is all over, we’ll head to Mudanjiang City. With our strength, we’ll definitely be able to make a name for ourselves. I’ll consider it my way of honoring your father’s memory.”

”Thanks, Uncle Lin,” Zhang Lifei replied, managing a forced smile.

”Why thank me? You’re like my own nephew...” Li Shanlin was saying, but he broke off with a pained yelp, ”OUCH, DAMN IT!” A sudden, searing pain had flared up on his back.

Li Shanlin quickly pulled Zhang Lifei to his feet. They stumbled forward a couple of steps before he turned to look back.

However, behind them, there was nothing but the black barrier.

”Lifei, check my back! What was that?” Li Shanlin was certain the burning sensation he had just felt was no illusion.

Zhang Lifei first glanced at Li Shanlin’s back, then at the nearby barrier. His face instantly turned pale.

”That thing... I think it moved!”
