”What makes you qualify as my companion?”

”With your strength so weak, why now—seeing me on my last legs—do you suddenly want to suck up to me?”

”Is it out of sympathy? Pity? Or because you’re gloating over my misfortune?”

”I, Wen Yu, even if I must die, will not tolerate being looked at like that by others!”

As soon as Wen Yu’s impassioned speech ended, he was choked by his injuries and started coughing heavily.

However, Sun Ruixing remained motionless.

”I don’t know if what you’re saying is sincere or intended to make me abandon you. But regardless, I’m going to carry you to the end of this trial unless I can no longer move.”

”It has nothing to do with anything else. It’s just what I should do, or rather, what I want to do!”

The calm voice from Sun Ruixing’s mouth quieted Wen Yu.

”Thank you...”

Beyond this, nothing else needed to be said!

「...」

A sudden shake awoke the unconscious Wen Yu.

”What happened?”

Wen Yu couldn’t see anything. He could only feel Sun Ruixing place him on the ground, and then, a soft bundle was slipped into his arms.

The sobbing of a baby reached Wen Yu’s ear, letting him know it was the Fourth Prince.

”There’s something up ahead. I’m going to deal with it.”

Sun Ruixing’s tone was firm!

”Mm, you should know, if you die, this mission will undoubtedly fail.”

”I’m aware, so I won’t die!”

The moment his voice faded, Sun Ruixing had already started walking ahead.

Wen Yu quietly listened to the sounds coming from not far away.

Judging by the sound of its footsteps, it was a single Demon Fiend.

However, during their journey, Wen Yu had never encountered any Level 2 Demon Fiends among them.

So, a fierce battle ensued.

It was filled with the roar of the Demon Fiend, Sun Ruixing’s muffled cries of pain, and the sound of a shield striking the Demon Fiend.

Even the sound of flesh being torn could be heard.

Then, everything returned to silence...

”I’ve dealt with it.”

Sun Ruixing tried to sound calm, but Wen Yu could tell he was feigning it.

Although Wen Yu couldn’t use his full strength, his Hearing had not been significantly impaired!

Just now, the Demon Fiend had struck Sun Ruixing at least three times!

A Third-level Demon Fiend hitting the Second-level Sun Ruixing, three times.

”Are you out of healing potions?” Wen Yu asked.

Sun Ruixing nodded, then it dawned on him that Wen Yu was blind. ”None left,” he replied. ”I only have some bandages left. Let me dress my wounds first.”

”Alright.”

Then, the sound of bandages being wrapped, accompanied by Sun Ruixing’s agonized groans, filled the air.

”Let’s go.”

Sun Ruixing took the Fourth Prince from Wen Yu’s arms, helped Wen Yu up, and continued toward the east.

His steps were a bit wobbly, but he was still resolute.

「...」

The road ahead wasn’t going to be easy!

Fortunately, they didn’t encounter many Demon Fiends.

Here, ’many’ meant only three waves.

Over the course of two days, Sun Ruixing faced three waves of Demon Fiends.

Two waves were avoided, and one was bravely withstood by Sun Ruixing!

Wen Yu didn’t know what Sun Ruixing’s Second Skill was, but it must be a powerful ability.

This ability had just saved Sun Ruixing’s life! He had only barely managed to cling to it.

THUD.

That was the sound of Wen Yu falling to the ground.

Next to him, Sun Ruixing was panting heavily.

His wounds had become so grievous that he could no longer carry a weight of less than a hundred jin!

”You should go on by yourself. This time, I really mean it. You should know that your body can’t take it anymore.”

”I know! But we’re almost there... we’re so close...”

Sun Ruixing’s weak voice was heard. Then, trembling slightly, he grabbed Wen Yu and continued onward.

Wen Yu could feel a wet, slimy sensation where Sun Ruixing was gripping him. It was Sun Ruixing’s blood.

”Almost there... just a bit more...”

Sun Ruixing’s steps faltered, but he forced his body upright and continued to move forward.

”Hang on, we’re almost there, just a bit more,” Wen Yu said.

Saying anything about giving up now would be too melodramatic. All I can do is encourage Sun Ruixing, or rather, constantly try to awaken his will to live!

”By the way, tell me about your daughter.”

”My daughter, you ask?”

Hearing Wen Yu’s question, Sun Ruixing’s voice immediately became a couple of notches louder.

”My daughter is currently studying at Yanjing University. You don’t know, my daughter, she’s the star of Hualin Town!”

”My girl, she was the top scholar of the college entrance exam in Hualin Town last year! On the day she got in, even Li Quan’an came to our house.”

Sun Ruixing spoke with an animated expression, as if recollecting the simple, yet heartwarming days of old.

”Li Quan’an is the town’s mayor, you know! The mayor came to our house, gave me a 100,000 yuan bonus, and said I was good at raising children. This was my reward!”

”Back then, I thought, I’ve worked hard my whole life, raising a daughter isn’t easy, and now it’s finally paid off.”

”But then that spendthrift wife of mine! She took the 100,000 yuan out to gamble and lost every last cent! This got me so angry, I immediately filed for divorce with her!”

”That spendthrift woman!”

After Sun Ruixing said this, he suddenly fell silent.

”After the apocalypse began, I went to my wife’s family home to look for my wife. She was dead, turned into a zombie, and then I killed her.”

”I was just angry at the time; I didn’t really want to divorce her.”

”I’m stubborn, and she’s stubborn too. My daughter also tried to persuade me, saying that money lost can be earned again, but I just couldn’t see it back then. In a fit of anger, I went to the court to file for divorce.”

”I can still remember, when my wife left, she even made me a batch of dumplings. That day I was driving out for work, got up early, ate a few dumplings, and left. When I came back, my wife had already gone back to her parents’ house.”

”You know, people don’t cherish what they have until it’s gone, and only then do they realize what they’ve truly lost.”

”I wanted to go back and find my wife too, but I couldn’t get over my pride. Tell me, is this pride really more important than a wife?”

”I thought about it for almost a year before I figured it out, and then the apocalypse happened.”

”It serves me right, serves me right...”

Sun Ruixing’s voice grew lower and lower.

”Old Sun, Old Sun!” Wen Yu shouted in Sun Ruixing’s ear.

”Ah? Ah!”

”When you get old, you just can’t concentrate! Where was I just now?”

”You still haven’t told me your daughter’s name.”

”Mm, let me think, let me think...”

THUD!

Sun Ruixing collapsed straight onto the ground.

”Ahead... I can see it, the silver light... but I really can’t go on...”
