Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 184: Chapter 140 Start!_1

Time ticked by. In the pervasive silence, the Black Light from the Demon Realm’s Gate grew increasingly intense. Then, a faint vibration came—the precursor to the Demon Realm’s Gate opening!

...

”Here it comes!”

As Wen Yu finished speaking, the Demon Realm’s Gate emitted a CREAK. This sound seemed to possess the power to shake one’s very Soul, causing a sharp sting in Wen Yu’s mind. Wen Yu wasn’t the only one; everyone else felt it too.

A series of THUMPS echoed across the area! It was the sound of Level 1 professionists collapsing.

Fortunately, this power, akin to a Soul Strike, arrived and dissipated quickly. In less than a minute, the weaker professionists further back managed to stand up one by one. Aside from a slight, lingering pain in their minds, they showed no other adverse reactions.

However, these once-confident professionists were clearly shaken by this ”show of might” from the Demon Realm’s Gate.

”What kind of damn trick is this!” Zhang Wenhu clutched his head, cursing vehemently.

Wen Yu stared gravely at the Demon Realm’s Gate before him and said in a low voice, ”This is war! A war of extermination!”

...

Once the sound faded, a crack slowly appeared in the Demon Realm’s Gate.

The immense force rendered useless the sandbags and furniture Zhang Wenhu had prepared days in advance to block the Demon Realm’s Gate; they were all shoved aside. After all, the opening of the Demon Realm’s Gate could not be obstructed by mere physical force.

Wen Yu hadn’t mentioned this. If they believed this was a viable defense, then let them try.

As the piled sandbags and furniture collapsed, a stream of dark gray Demonic Qi spewed out violently. The gray gas slowly rose, then gradually dissipated into the clear sky, leaving no trace.

This was Demonic Qi—the first wave of the Demon Realm’s invasion, originating from the air—or perhaps, a modification of the very rules of existence!

The air seemed to undergo some imperceptible change. A heavy, oppressive atmosphere slowly enveloped everyone present. Then, low, chaotic sounds emanated from within the Demon Realm’s Gate.

...

In his previous life, Earth had experienced a similar demon plague. First, a large amount of Demonic Qi had invaded Earth, causing various changes, though these had little effect on professionists.

Wen Yu didn’t understand why the invasion of Demonic Qi was termed the ”first wave,” but that didn’t prevent him from knowing what the second wave would be. The second wave: that was actual, tangible warfare! That was the demon plague everyone in the post-apocalyptic world feared.

Accompanied by an oppressive roar, the crack in the Demon Realm’s Gate grew wider and wider, until the massive Demon Realm’s Gate had opened to an angle of 10 degrees. Then it slowly stopped.

The Demon Realm’s Gate, nearly a hundred meters tall, had only opened by 10 degrees, yet the gap it revealed was already considerable—considerable enough for the Demon Tribe to transport Demon Fiends through it at maximum speed.

The low growls grew closer, and then a scrawny Soot Skin Demon Fiend charged out, baring its teeth and claws, only for its legs to be instantly snapped by an iron trap set on the ground. Black Demon Blood splattered, leaving a grayish-black stain on the ground.

This was just the beginning.

As if on signal, after the first Soot Skin rushed out, black figures flooded forth like a tide. The noise was deafening as a continuous stream of scrawny, black figures poured out relentlessly.

”Light the fire!”

Zhang Wenhu reacted quickly. As the first Soot Skin rushed out, he gave the order. A nearby professionist lit a fuse, and the gasoline surrounding the Demon Realm’s Gate ignited rapidly. A massive column of fire shot into the sky, and the area within a 10-meter radius of the Demon Realm’s Gate was quickly engulfed in flames.

But the Lethality of such mundane flames was truly insufficient.

With a tremendous roar, a pale blue figure, nearly 10 meters tall, emerged from the Demon Realm’s Gate. Its feet, each over a meter long, directly crushed the Soot Skins that were rolling on the ground, engulfed in flames before it. Then, this giant blue figure raised both hands. The muscles on its two enormous arms bulged alarmingly, and then, with all its strength, it slammed them down onto the burning earth!

To the professionists not far away, this blow felt like an earthquake. Although it caused no casualties, several weaker professionists were still sent staggering by the tremors.

Fortunately, the Blue-skinned Demon hadn’t aimed at the professionists. Unfortunately, its target was the fire blazing beneath its feet.

The earth cracked, and the flames burning on the ground scattered, only to be extinguished by flying stones and clouds of dust. Zhang Wenhu’s painstakingly designed Flame Defenseline was obliterated by the Demon Fiend’s single strike!

From not far off, everyone stared, their faces ashen, at the blue figure before the Demon Realm’s Gate, rendered speechless. The pressure emanating from the 10-meter-tall creature was absolutely beyond anything the professionists present could have imagined.

Fortunately, after extinguishing the flames, this figure made no further moves. Even the Demon Fiends behind it ceased their advance. The acrid smell of scorched flesh, emanating from the bodies of Soot Skins still writhing on the ground, filled the nostrils of the Human Race defenders.

Then, these Demon Fiends, of low standing within the Demon Tribe, were swiftly torn apart and devoured by their own kin. Their screams, initially growing louder, gradually weakened until they faded into silence.

”What are they doing?” Zhang Wenhu asked Wen Yu beside him, confused, as he watched the Demon Group before them gradually calm down.

”Waiting for reinforcements,” Wen Yu replied in a low voice, causing Zhang Wenhu’s expression to turn grim.

”They possess intelligence? And there are more of them?” Zhang Wenhu’s incredulous questions drew a bitter smile from Wen Yu.

”We’re barely scratching the surface. Besides, you’re thinking of ’intelligence’ in too sophisticated a way!” Wen Yu explained. To the defenders across Chaihe Town, one Level Three Blue-skinned Demon, plus a few thousand Level 2 and below Soot Skin Demon Fiends—this number was laughably insignificant, hardly enough to be considered a serious force.

As soon as Wen Yu finished speaking, another sound came from the Demon Realm’s Gate. Another Blue-skinned Giant Demon lumbered out.

Without a loud roar, this Demon Fiend simply walked forward quietly. The Soot Skins along its path hastily parted, clearing a way for this Blue-skinned Giant Demon until it stood beside the first one.

Then, another Blue-skinned Giant Demon emerged from the Demon Realm’s Gate.

Three of them! All Level Three!

Looking at the Blue-skinned Giant Demons before him, each like a small hill, Wen Yu’s expression grew increasingly grim. It wasn’t because of the three Level Three Demon Fiends themselves, but because, even now, these Demon Fiends had yet to attack.

This also meant that behind them, there were even more, and even stronger, enemies!
