Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 51: Chapter 8 Takeover_1

In Sun Ruixing’s small gathering spot, Wen Yu found a bamboo mat in the room, spread it on the floor, and quietly basked in the sun.

He ignored the surprised looks from the passing patrol members and occasionally teased the little Soul Beast.

It had been close to two hours since Sun Ruixing and the others had left. During that time, Wen Yu had eaten some food and then simply waited, feeling bored.

Though I feel a bit of regret about wasting time like this, my promise is more important, Wen Yu thought.

Hearing a distant commotion, Wen Yu slowly opened his eyes. He let go of the little Soul Beast, which he had been squishing and rolling in his hand, and immediately picked up his steel saber.

The little Soul Beast, having just escaped its master’s clutches, resentfully floated to Wen Yu’s shoulder and forcefully bumped its master’s cheek to express its indignation.

Even though the Soul Beast was Level 2, its strength was less than a lover’s gentle caress. Moreover, according to the Spiritual Fluctuations transmitted by the little Soul Beast, it actually found Wen Yu’s ”massage” quite comfortable. However, being a noble Soul Beast, yet treated like a ball for Wen Yu to knead, made it feel a little embarrassed.

This must be what they call ’tsundere’.

Ignoring the emotions transmitted by the Soul Beast, Wen Yu watched as Lin Hu led a large group of strangers in through the main gate, and he couldn’t help but frown.

”This is truly troublesome,” he muttered to himself. ”I knew I shouldn’t have gotten involved with these strongholds.”

「...」

Mayor Li, full of vigor, led a large group of people into Sun Ruixing’s stronghold. The entire process was unbelievably easy.

Lin Hu had long been bought over by him and was now his man. Many of the professionists responsible for patrols were also Lin Hu’s subordinates.

Even if some were loyal to Sun Ruixing, only a few days had passed since the apocalypse began. Loyalty wasn’t as important as one’s own life. Seeing such a large group of professionists armed with steel sabers, even an idiot would know what choice to make. Besides, whoever you follow, it’s all just surviving, isn’t it?

Some who understood the situation wisely chose to keep quiet. Those who didn’t, dazedly followed Lin Hu, the stronghold’s apparent leader, straight towards the main house.

Mayor Li adjusted his collar and walked directly to a large stone at the entrance of the main house. Ironically, this was the same stone Sun Ruixing used to stand on to deliver speeches after luring out zombies.

For this day, Mayor Li had even deliberately worn a formal suit.

He watched as Lin Hu gathered most of the people in the settlement below him, including the patrol members. The entire camp’s patrol duties had already been taken over by his own men.

”AHEM, AHEM.” Mayor Li coughed forcefully. The powerful physique of a professionist made his cough quite startling. Seeing the confused crowd below all turn to look at him, Mayor Li nodded in satisfaction and directly began the speech he had prepared.

”My dear townsfolk, I believe you know who I am. If you don’t, that’s alright. Allow me to briefly introduce myself. My name is Li Quan’an, and I am the mayor of our Hualin Town.”

”I’ve come here today to tell everyone that our country, our government, has already initiated rescue operations. And I am the one appointed by the government to be in charge of organizing the rescue efforts in Hualin Town.”

”I, Li Quan’an, began rescue work right when the catastrophe started. Our camp is located in the town center. However, Sun Ruixing, that despicable man, deceived the masses for his own selfish desires, attempting to become a king during this disaster! This is an act of treason against the country! Such behavior will inevitably face the nation’s retribution. Fortunately, Brother Lin Hu here still remembered his duty to the country and proactively contacted me, letting me know that there were so many suffering people here.”

Calmly betraying Lin Hu, Li Quan’an ignored Lin Hu’s ashen face and continued his speech.

”Today, I am here to bring you all back into the embrace of our country, back to the civilized life we once knew! In our camp, we have supplies transported by the state, which can absolutely guarantee everyone three meals a day. We also have many powerful professionists to ensure your safety, and comprehensive defensive measures to protect against the harassment of mutant creatures and zombies.” 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ

Seeing the excited expressions on the faces of many in the crowd upon hearing words like ’country’ and ’three meals a day,’ Li Quan’an knew his efforts hadn’t been in vain.

”Everyone, do you want such a life? Do you want to return to civilized society? After the catastrophe ends, everyone will be allocated land and supplies! Do you want this? If you do, I will organize your evacuation. This location isn’t ideal; I will take everyone to a safe place.”

Below, some people, who had long been bought off by Li Quan’an’s subordinates, began to stir up the atmosphere. The common folk, unaware of the truth, were completely taken in by the mention of the government and Li Quan’an’s status, and they loudly voiced their agreement. Some professionists who understood the truth couldn’t bring themselves to say ’no’ under the implicitly threatening blades of Li Quan’an’s men.

”Good! Then let’s go! Everyone, please form a line. I have arranged vehicles outside to take you away.”

Watching a gathering spot turn to dust under his own machinations, Li Quan’an was overwhelmed by a tremendous sense of achievement.

”Wait a moment, I’d like to say a few words.”

Still immersed in the joy of his success and unable to extricate himself, Li Quan’an was interrupted by the sudden voice, and he couldn’t help but feel annoyed.

With so many people watching, I should maintain my image before this matter is fully settled. Thinking this, Li Quan’an smiled faintly and said, ”Which of my dear townsfolk has a question? I, Li, will definitely tell you everything I know, holding nothing back.”

The crowd naturally parted, revealing Wen Yu, who had been standing at the back.

Wen Yu scratched his head, flashed a toothy white grin at Li Quan’an, and asked in a negotiating tone, ”Um, I promised Sun Ruixing that I would ensure the safety of this camp until dark. Although I don’t want to get involved in this mess, I was hoping to discuss it with you... Could we perhaps wait until dark before we leave?”

Li Quan’an’s face darkened. He hadn’t expected Sun Ruixing to have left not only the patrol team but also such a naive young man to guard the place. Suppressing his anger, Li Quan’an said, ”Young man, it’s not very safe after dark, you know.”

”Ah, I knew this would be troublesome,” Wen Yu muttered, staring directly at Li Quan’an. ”So, you’re saying it’s a no?”

Li Quan’an was so angry he laughed. This kid clearly doesn’t understand the situation; he’s a complete fool. He stopped paying Wen Yu any attention and turned to directly begin organizing the people’s evacuation.

Seeing Li Quan’an completely ignore his proposal, Wen Yu didn’t bother saying anything more and directly activated his 2nd Soul Realm.
