Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 86: Chapter 43 Zombie Attack on the Camp (Part 3)_1

”Hurry up! Run faster!” Zang Pengfei immediately shouted, seeing the zombies disregarding casualties and beginning to fill the pit.

Fortunately, the professionists weren’t like ordinary people who wouldn’t even dare to fight. Witnessing the zombies jumping into the pit, they didn’t panic excessively and immediately turned to run towards the rear of the camp.

Without Level 2 zombies present, these professionists had a high chance of escaping as long as they could get out of the Corpse King’s line of sight.

The difference in their mobility was significant. More importantly, tens of thousands of zombies spread across Chaihe Town weren’t actually that numerous.

As the professionists steadily retreated, the Corpse King became visibly agitated.

His purpose in leading the charge today was to destroy this camp, avenge his painstakingly nurtured subordinates, and kill the human who had gone on a killing spree in his territory that morning.

Yet, up to this point, he hadn’t killed many humans but had lost both of his only capable assistants!

This made him look incredibly foolish!

Losing subordinates was one thing, but more importantly, he had lost face.

This was absolutely unacceptable.

Finally, anger triumphed over instinct.

The Corpse King retreated a few steps, let out a furious roar, then, propelling himself with his powerful legs like a war chariot, he charged forward.

The explosive force from his robust physique was terrifying. With a powerful push from his right leg, the Corpse King’s enormous body leaped up, clearing the line of fire in an instant.

He easily reached the other bank. A look of realization flashed through the Corpse King’s eyes. So, this ditch is so narrow; I wish I’d thought of this sooner.

The Corpse King turned back and looked at the few people who hadn’t yet managed to flee: Cyclops, Zang Pengfei, Sun Aotian, and Sun Ruixing.

Only a handful of them remained, and the Corpse King’s murderous aura made their skin crawl.

Cyclops was the first to react. He quickly assessed the Corpse King. Its physical attributes are around 40 points! Not yet Third-level! While it’s strong, zombies don’t have skills! If I can endure and accumulate enough damage, once my Mortal Combat ability fully activates, I might be able to take down this Zombie King, even if it costs me my life! As long as there’s a chance to win, there’s no need to run!

Cyclops paid no mind to the vast horde of ordinary zombies behind the Corpse King.

Without the aid of skills, a twofold superiority in physical attributes granted overwhelming defensive power and one-hit kill capability!

With a direct pounce, Cyclops didn’t immediately attack the Corpse King. With his current physical attributes, he was vulnerable to being killed instantly by the Corpse King’s brute strength.

So, Cyclops leaped directly into the nearby fire pit!

The intense flames seared Cyclops’ body, but his high physical attributes significantly reduced his Pain Perception.

However, fire is merciless, and Cyclops was covered in long fur!

As Cyclops’ long fur was incinerated, the ash acted like hot coals, inflicting secondary burns on his hide. The flames began to lick at his exposed skin. All the while, Cyclops had to defend against attacks from the Low-level zombies trapped in the fire pit.

The Low-level zombies’ attacks couldn’t penetrate Cyclops’ skin at all. In contrast, Cyclops’ counterattacks continuously felled them!

The remaining humans and the Corpse King stared dumbfounded at Cyclops’ apparent suicide attempt. Confusion flickered in the Corpse King’s eyes, while despair dawned in the eyes of the others.

That big dog was so terrified by the Corpse King that it had a breakdown! The Corpse King definitely won’t jump into the fire pit like Cyclops did. This means we’ll be its primary targets, they thought.

Sun Aotian was the first to react. He spun around and fled, his 12-point physical attributes allowing his small frame to shoot forward like a rabbit.

Sun Ruixing had just raised his shield, about to shout to the remaining two, ”You two go! I’ll hold them back!”

But Sun Aotian had already bolted. Sun Ruixing then turned to Zang Pengfei.

Zang Pengfei offered Sun Ruixing an apologetic glance, then produced a scroll from his clothes and tore it open forcefully.

A flash of white light flared, and Zang Pengfei’s figure vanished!

PHEW.

Sun Ruixing smiled bitterly but held no resentment. In such a desperate plight, anyone who managed to escape was a win.

This time, I’m truly done for. But surrendering to the enemy’s judgment was not Sun Ruixing’s way. He resolutely gripped his steel saber and shield, his gaze firm as he faced the Giant Corpse King. Even if I die, I’ll die fighting!

Now that only Sun Ruixing remained of the three, the Giant Corpse King finally looked away from Cyclops in the fire pit.

With its level of intelligence, the Giant Corpse King couldn’t comprehend why Cyclops would jump into a pit of fire.

But one thing was certain: the Giant Corpse King had no intention of jumping into a fire pit to fight a mere dog!

The Giant Corpse King had just resolved the difficult dilemma of whether to kill the dog first or the humans, only to find that just one human was left!

The Giant Corpse King was furious. These cunning humans! They used the time I was thinking to escape!

It roared at Sun Ruixing, then leaped into the air. Its massive right hand, raised high, came crashing down fiercely upon him.

Sun Ruixing knew he couldn’t possibly block this attack.

Since I can’t block it, so be it. It’s just... I’ll never see Xuewei again...

Eyes slightly closed, Sun Ruixing calmly awaited the arrival of death.

BOOM.

A deafening crash.

Sun Ruixing, steeled for death, felt no pain at all!

Puzzled, he opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was Wen Yu’s figure.

”Brother Wen Yu!” Sun Ruixing cried out, his voice filled with the immense joy of having escaped death.

Wen Yu nodded at Sun Ruixing and flexed his slightly numb right leg.

Just now, Wen Yu had entered combat stance, erupting with extreme speed to send the airborne Corpse King flying with a kick. While this had saved Sun Ruixing from being crushed, the Corpse King was completely unharmed!

The unprecedented defensive power of this Corpse King gave Wen Yu a serious headache.

Wen Yu’s frown deepened as he watched the Corpse King, now 10 meters away, pick itself up and roar at him.

This Corpse King is completely unaffected by Soul Strike! Ordinary zombies are just animated corpses; naturally, they have no souls and wouldn’t be affected by Soul Strike. I’ve only fought Level 2 zombies a few times, and those battles ended quickly, so I never had a chance to see if high-level zombies are susceptible to Soul Strike. Maybe they are, maybe they aren’t! This situation isn’t entirely unexpected. So-called zombies, even if they develop intelligence, are just soulless walking dead!
