Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 88: Chapter 45: The Escaping Corpse King_1

The sharp teeth bit into the crook of the Corpse King’s right arm. The Corpse King’s right arm was tremendously powerful, possessing formidable defense capabilities. Unfortunately, in the face of the severely injured Cyclops, the defensive strength of its right arm seemed laughable.

The Corpse King’s left fist continuously pummeled Cyclops’ body. However, given Cyclops’ current physical condition, these injuries were not substantial enough to render him incapable of combat, or even to make him release his jaws.

While Cyclops furiously tore at the Corpse King’s right arm, his two front claws were also busy, endlessly scratching at the Corpse King’s face. Within moments, Cyclops had savagely mauled the Corpse King’s hideous face.

At this moment, something even more despairing happened to the Corpse King. Not far away, Wen Yu, having briefly regulated his breathing and endured his pain, charged directly into the battle. The Corpse King could only watch helplessly as Wen Yu brandished his steel saber.

The steel saber plunged directly into its belly. Then, as if slicing through leather, it slid sideways, carving a ghastly wound across the Corpse King’s abdomen.

Wen Yu did not pull out the steel saber. Instead, exerting force with his right hand, he twisted and turned the Weapon, churning the Corpse King’s abdomen into a bloody mess.

As Wen Yu withdrew the steel saber, the Corpse King’s abdomen looked as if a bomb had detonated from within, revealing a massive, bloody cavity from which intestines, gore, and internal organs spilled onto the ground.

The Corpse King shrieked horrifically, but its most lethal right arm was securely pinned by Cyclops. Its body, too, was jerked about by Cyclops’ immense strength, unable to move an inch.

Wen Yu brandished the steel saber once more, this time aiming for the Corpse King’s ankle! These were not fatal blows; Wen Yu simply wasn’t tall enough to reach the Corpse King’s head, even with his steel saber raised high. Thus, he had to settle for the next best thing: repeatedly deepening the wounds on the Corpse King’s body.

The Corpse King stared dumbly as Wen Yu’s steel saber hacked at its ankle. A single strike exposed the bone!

It’s over! This was the Corpse King’s current thought. If Wen Yu severs my ankle, I’ll lose my last hope of escape!

Wait, I can still run! Why didn’t I think of that sooner?! The Corpse King’s slow mind suddenly latched onto its best option: flee!

The Corpse King twisted its body frantically. Far from trying to free its right arm from Cyclops’ jaws, it allowed Cyclops’ sharp teeth to grate against the bone.

Cyclops’ goal was to sever the Corpse King’s right arm; the Corpse King’s goal was for Cyclops to hurry up and bite off its right arm so it could escape! Their objectives had bizarrely aligned, resulting in terrifying efficiency.

The Corpse King twisted, evading Wen Yu’s heavy slash. Then, SNAP! Cyclops and the Corpse King finally separated—as did the Corpse King from its powerful Weapon, its right arm.

Cyclops, his crimson eyes fixed on the Corpse King, spat out the massive severed arm and charged like a mad bull. Unfortunately, he missed!

The Corpse King had anticipated this. The moment it broke free, it unleashed all its strength and bolted madly towards the nearby wilderness.

Behind it, Cyclops was in hot pursuit. His superior physical attributes made him faster than the Corpse King. In less than five seconds, Cyclops would catch the Corpse King and bite through its neck.

Wen Yu snatched the Corpse King’s severed right arm from the ground, stored it in his space ring, and then gave chase.

Cyclops saw the Corpse King’s figure drawing nearer. Any moment now, he would pounce on the Corpse King and crush its throat! But suddenly, Cyclops stumbled. His speed dwindled until he collapsed to the ground. Severely wounded, Cyclops could no longer hold on!

Wen Yu naturally understood what had happened. He first deactivated his combat state, immediately activated his 2nd Soul Realm to retrieve Cyclops, then re-entered his combat state, augmented by Mortal Combat!

Immense power surged through him. Wen Yu’s own physical attributes, normally 29.5 in his combat state, were instantly boosted to around 50 points by the Mortal Combat ability. Wen Yu’s injuries were not light either!

Watching the Corpse King fleeing further into the distance, a ruthless glint appeared in Wen Yu’s eyes. Such a great threat, and you think you can escape?! Without hesitation, Wen Yu sped off in pursuit of the Corpse King!

The Corpse King fled straight ahead, rushing into the forests near Chaihe Town.

Wen Yu pursued relentlessly. Trees and earth were sent flying by the Corpse King’s massive body as it crashed through the forest. Wen Yu dodged the debris stirred up by the Corpse King while steadily closing the distance.

Currently, Wen Yu’s physical attributes were superior to the Corpse King’s, and the Corpse King’s enormous size was a disadvantage in terms of speed. Therefore, by the time the Corpse King plunged deep into the mountains, Wen Yu had almost caught up to it.

”You think you can run?!” With Wen Yu’s furious roar, his steel saber transformed into a streak of silver light, its blade emitting a piercing shriek—proof that its speed and Lethality had reached a terrifying level!

The silver light, moving faster than the eye could see, slashed directly at the Corpse King’s calf. ROAR! The Corpse King stumbled mid-stride, its pained cry echoing as its momentum carried it tumbling forward for some distance before it collapsed!

A gruesome, terrifying wound on its calf had nearly severed the limb. If not for a sliver of flesh still connecting it, the Corpse King would undoubtedly have lost another part of its body! But Wen Yu had achieved his goal: the Corpse King had lost its ability to escape!

Wen Yu, holding his slightly deformed steel saber, advanced step by step towards the Corpse King. He watched as it thrashed and roared in fury, yet could not conceal the panic in its eyes. It was merely a hollow bluff!

The Corpse King, as it was now, possessed no ability to resist Wen Yu. Wen Yu lunged with his blade. Sensing its predicament, the Corpse King didn’t hesitate to launch its final, desperate struggle!

Two figures—one standing, small, the other half-kneeling and gigantic—engaged in a bloody duel in this deserted, deep mountain range. Instantly, the Corpse King’s agonized roars and screams echoed far and wide. But no matter how wretched its cries, they could not alter its impending doom.

However, the voluminous sounds echoing far into the distance startled some unknown creatures lurking in the deep mountains!

From the deepest part of the mountains, atop a giant ancient tree, a dark blue figure suddenly soared into the sky. Its partially spread wings spanned an astonishing ten meters. On its forehead, a black Crystal shimmered with a faint light, appearing like a third eye—mysterious and terrifying!

With a clear, piercing cry, this giant Hawk rapidly flew toward the location of Wen Yu and the Corpse King’s battle.
