Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 94: Chapter 51 Investigation_1

”Bring Wen Yu here! Kill all these beasts!” Li Quan’an’s words were filled with killing intent and fury.

Sun Ruixing’s body went slack as Li Quan’an untied the ropes binding him tightly.

Prolonged binding had numbed Sun Ruixing’s limbs. Thankfully, his body hadn’t suffered significant harm. Once he adjusted to the returning blood flow, Sun Ruixing immediately looked behind him.

Li Quan’an stood behind Sun Ruixing. He didn’t look much different from before, but his face was so pale it seemed he hadn’t seen sunlight in decades.

Sun Ruixing remained silent for a long moment before finally speaking, ”You too...”

”Say no more. Let’s go. Be careful. We need to find Wen Yu.”

Sun Ruixing gave Li Quan’an a complicated look, then took the steel saber and map offered to him. Without looking back, he headed outside.

Li Quan’an watched Sun Ruixing slowly disappear into the darkness and sighed deeply.

「...」

Early the next morning, Wen Yu led Cyclops out of his room and headed directly to the small restaurant from the previous day.

Downstairs, Sun Aotian was dutifully waiting for Wen Yu.

”This early?” Wen Yu raised an eyebrow at Sun Aotian.

Alone with Wen Yu, Sun Aotian couldn’t help but feel a little awkward. He gave a couple of strained laughs and said, ”I was just worried about keeping you waiting, Brother Wen Yu.”

Hearing Sun Aotian’s clearly conciliatory words, Wen Yu looked at him in a new light. Now that his idiocy seems cured, he’s actually a decent young man.

”Let’s go. We’ll grab something to eat before we head out.”

The small restaurant that prepared meals for the upper echelons was staffed twenty-four hours a day. When Wen Yu and Sun Aotian walked in, the staff immediately began serving food.

While Wen Yu quickly ate, he questioned Sun Aotian.

”How far is that place from here?”

”Not too far. At a normal pace, we should be there in about an hour.”

”Mm, I hear they have guns?”

”That’s speculation. But since there are police and government officials among them, they should have firearms.”

”Mm. Do you think they could still be alive?” Wen Yu asked a rather serious question.

Without even thinking, Sun Aotian said, ”Highly unlikely. If they didn’t leave, they should all be dead by now.”

”Let’s go. Whatever the situation, we need to go take a look.”

Wen Yu stood up and headed for the door.

”Wait a moment, Brother Wen Yu. Brother Fei asked me to give this to you first.”

Sun Aotian stopped Wen Yu and handed him two Level 2 magic crystals.

Brother Fei is really thoughtful, Wen Yu mused, taking the magic crystals and beginning to Absorb them. This is my service fee!

Moments after finishing Absorbing the magic crystals, Wen Yu and Sun Aotian quickened their pace towards the other settlement.

「...」

Before they even reached their destination, Wen Yu realized Sun Aotian’s assessment had been correct!

It was clear that a fierce battle had occurred up ahead.

The ground was littered with zombie corpses, interspersed with large patches of Withered blood.

The two of them and the dog picked their way through the piles of corpses and reached the building’s main entrance. ”They didn’t manage to escape!” Wen Yu sighed.

The camp was located in the town government building. Its main entrance had been smashed by a horde of zombies. Wen Yu didn’t need to guess what had happened next.

”Let’s go. We’ll head inside and take a look.” Wen Yu gestured to Sun Aotian and walked ahead.

Inside the government building, the signs of battle were even more intense than outside. So many zombie corpses littered the area that Wen Yu had trouble finding a place to step. The ground was covered with spent shell casings, along with some discarded firearms and steel sabers.

They followed the trail of the zombie attack upwards.

The town government building wasn’t large, only three stories high. It didn’t take long for Wen Yu to reach the top floor. He noticed the wide-open windows and the steel cables attached to them, a flicker of surprise in his eyes.

”Survivors?”

Behind him, Sun Aotian had also figured out the purpose of this setup and spoke up.

”Probably. These people are quite clever.”

After speaking, Wen Yu looked towards the end of the steel cables.

The steel cables stretched far, connecting to a complex of low-rise bungalows in an area filled with winding alleys.

”Let’s go, Cyclops, find them!”

Anyone else arriving here would have been clueless about what to do given the situation.

But Wen Yu was here, and Wen Yu had Cyclops.

Cyclops lowered his head, sniffing the cables intently to pick up the scent, then ran straight down the stairs and out of the building.

”Let’s follow. There might be survivors, and if they’re strong, they could be a valuable addition to your camp’s fighting strength.”

Those who managed to escape using that simple zipline were definitely professionists. Ordinary people wouldn’t have the physical strength!

”Right.” Sun Aotian gave a simple affirmation and kept pace closely behind Wen Yu.

Following the scent, Cyclops ran straight to the end of the steel cable, sniffed it again, and then dashed into an alley.

Soon after, Cyclops led Wen Yu to a bungalow. His massive body crashed through the door. He ran inside and let out a loud howl, looking at Wen Yu.

”It’s here!” Wen Yu said, looking at the vegetable cellar entrance near Cyclops.

In the rural Northeast, families living in bungalows had a habit of storing food, so almost every household would have a cellar like this one.

He casually pulled open the cellar entrance, and a gust of cool air rushed out.

The absence of any rotten smell suggested this cellar might connect to other exits.

”Let’s go.”

Wen Yu recalled Cyclops into the Soul Realm and gestured to Sun Aotian.

Sun Aotian asked hesitantly, ”Brother Wen Yu, could there be any danger?”

”Danger is possible, but when something this interesting comes up, how can we not check it out?”

Wen Yu gave Sun Aotian an enigmatic smile and was the first to duck into the cellar.

Curiosity is a natural human trait. When people feel powerful enough, they tend to explore the unknown. Wen Yu was no exception!

Seeing Wen Yu take the lead, Sun Aotian quickly followed him down.

It was pitch-black in the cellar, making it impossible to see. However, as professionists grew stronger, their night vision also improved significantly.

It only took Wen Yu a few tens of seconds to adapt to the darkness.

Glancing around, Wen Yu was surprised.

This could no longer be called a cellar; it was practically an underground tunnel!

”Brother Wen Yu, Brother Wen Yu?” Sun Aotian’s panicked shouts came from behind.

Pitch-black darkness like this could awaken a person’s deepest, buried fears!

And Sun Aotian, after all, was still just a kid.
