Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 84: Chapter 41 Zombie Attack on the Camp (Part 1)_1

The night deepened. As the entire camp sank into sleep, groups of zombies stood quietly in Chaihe Town, their lifeless eyes fixed on the enormous zombie at their head. This was the Corpse King of Chaihe Town.

Amusingly, only two Level 2 zombies remained by the Corpse King’s side. Level 2 zombies were difficult to evolve. After the havoc Wen Yu had wreaked during the day, even this overlord of a small town faced the embarrassing predicament of having no zombies left to command.

”ROAR.”

With a frenzied roar from the Corpse King, the entire zombie army began to move!

「 」

”Qiang Zi, did you hear? That Level 2 professionist, Wen Yu, who came here a while back? He went into town today and killed dozens of Level 2 zombies. I heard he even chopped off the Corpse King’s arm!”

”Brother Zhang, I heard he already killed the Corpse King!”

”Tsk, tsk. No matter what, this Wen Yu is seriously impressive!”

”You can say that again! If you ask me, we humans in Chaihe Town finally have some hope!”

At the camp entrance, two guards on patrol duty were squatting side-by-side while relieving themselves, their conversation centered on Wen Yu, the future, and hope.

”Qiang Zi, did you hear something?”

”What noise?”

”Sounds like footsteps!”

”No way. Who’d come to this godforsaken patch of weeds in the dead of night?”

”I guess you’re right...”

Before Brother Zhang could finish, a gigantic figure shot over like a cannonball, its massive right arm slamming down.

”BOOM.”

The soft earth erupted, leaving a huge crater. Brother Zhang was gone! Flesh and bloody soil splattered directly onto the face of Qiang Zi, who was right beside him.

Qiang Zi stared blankly at the Corpse King that had suddenly appeared before him. He plopped down onto the filth-covered ground, his face ashen, lips trembling, unable to utter a single word.

「 」

Wen Yu was jolted awake by a cacophony of noise.

What’s going on?

He was instantly alert.

Sun Ruixing, still by the door, shook his head at Wen Yu, signaling he didn’t know what was happening.

Wen Yu calmed himself and assessed his injuries.

Scabs had formed over most of his wounds. At this rate, they would fully heal overnight.

Unfortunately, a sense of unease gnawed at Wen Yu.

”Let’s go, Old Sun. We’ll check it out.”

Wen Yu immediately stood and limped out of the room.

Outside, panic had already gripped the crowd. Professionists, brandishing steel sabers, were rushing towards the camp entrance. Ordinary people, in contrast, were desperately fleeing towards the rear.

”What’s going on?”

Wen Yu grabbed a nearby professionist and asked directly.

The professionist, clearly aware of Wen Yu’s reputation, stammered, ”The Zombie King... it’s leading a zombie horde to attack the camp!”

Wen Yu’s brow furrowed. This timing is terrible. The dim visibility severely handicaps the human side.

Letting the professionist go, Wen Yu said to Sun Ruixing, ”Old Sun, you go ahead and see what’s happening. I need to exchange for a few things; I’ll be right there.”

Sun Ruixing knew Wen Yu needed to get healing potions. He said nothing, picked up his gear, and headed for the camp entrance.

Wen Yu limped over to the Exchange Stone Pillar.

”Query points.”

”Remaining points: 5,418.”

Not far off from my estimate. The day’s haul was quite substantial!

He immediately deactivated his combat state and summoned Cyclops. Cyclops’s injuries had completely healed within the Soul Realm space.

”Go check the situation. If it looks bad, tell me immediately!”

”WOOF WOOF.”

Cyclops barked twice and shot off towards the camp entrance.

Wen Yu refocused on the Exchange Stone Pillar.

First, an intermediate healing potion, costing 500 points.

Wen Yu downed it in one gulp. His wounds healed rapidly but not completely. He moved his limbs slightly and found his leg was still somewhat stiff.

This is no time to be stingy with points. He immediately exchanged for another intermediate healing potion. This time, the wounds healed completely. The entire process took less than a minute.

With the remaining 4,418 points, Wen Yu exchanged for an E-Class steel saber and an E-Class protective suit, equipping them immediately.

Then, he acquired eight Level 2 attributeless magic crystals. After a brief period of absorption, his physical fitness rose to 19.5 points. In combat state, that’s 29.5 points—the stats of a mid-stage Level 2!

Exchanges complete, Wen Yu headed straight for the camp’s main entrance. Ahead, roars, shouts, and screams tore through the silent sky!

「 」

At the main camp entrance, Zang Pengfei led all the camp’s professionists, braced for the attack. Gazing at the dense horde of zombies rushing towards them, Zang Pengfei’s eyes were filled with anxiety.

”Where are Wen Yu and Little Sky?”

His confidant beside him immediately replied, ”Little Sky will be here soon.”

”Mm.”

Sun Ruixing then added, ”Brother Wen Yu is exchanging items; he’ll be here shortly too.”

Zang Pengfei turned to a young woman. ”Xiao Wen, arrange for the ordinary people in the camp to evacuate. Have them take a detour into Chaihe Town. All professionists, we hold here for at least ten minutes to give the civilians time to withdraw.”

”Understood, Brother Fei.”

The young woman named Xiao Wen acknowledged and turned back into the camp.

Not far off, Sun Aotian arrived with Bai Xiao’an and Bai Feifei, taking a position beside Zang Pengfei to look down.

”So many?” Sun Aotian exclaimed in shock.

Watching the zombies draw ever closer, even a Level 2 professionist like Sun Aotian felt immense pressure bearing down on him.

”The numbers are indeed large,” Zang Pengfei said, his decision made as he gritted his teeth. ”My plan is to hold here for a while, then abandon this camp! We’ll head for Chaihe Town. As long as Brother Wen Yu can kill that Corpse King, we have a chance to survive! Without the Corpse King’s leadership, the zombies are just a disorganized mob. But, Little Sky, I’ll need your help. If there are Level 2 zombies among them, you take half, I take half.”

Hearing Zang Pengfei’s request, Sun Aotian nodded gravely. He turned to Bai Xiao’an and said, ”Protect your sister and go first.”

Earlier that morning, Sun Aotian had taken Bai Xiao’an out and helped him become a professionist—not a difficult task for a Level 2.

Bai Xiao’an, his face pale, looked at the zombie horde about to clash with the survivors. He nodded, trembling.

Even as a professionist, someone who dared not fight was still a burden.
