Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 50: Chapter 7 Blood Bone Incense_1

On the vehicle, as Grandpa Sun lit a stick of incense, its scent wafted further and further away. Gradually, a commotion began in the desolate Hualin Town.

A few wild dogs, hidden in the wilderness, sniffed vigorously at the peculiar smell. Their eyes slowly turned red, and then they bolted towards the source of the fragrance as if driven mad.

Zombies, mutant beasts, and even many herbivorous animals were attracted by the incense’s aroma, continuously surging towards the convoy.

「At the same time, in a small residential building at the center of Hualin Town.」

”Mayor Li,” a thin boy said nervously to Mayor Li, ”the lookout reports that Sun Ruixing and his group have left in their cars. They’ve reached the outskirts of Hualin Town.”

”Hmm, understood. Tell all the professionists to prepare; we’ll go recruit Sun Ruixing’s remaining people shortly.”

Mayor Li was lying naked on a spacious bed, enjoying the services of a young maiden. He nodded in satisfaction upon hearing the news.

The boy watched helplessly as Mayor Li’s groping hands took liberties with the young maiden’s chest. A flicker of resentment flashed in his eyes before he turned and left the room.

Once they were alone in the room, Mayor Li climbed on top of the maiden. Gripping her face cruelly, he said with a lustful expression, ”So, how is it, Feifei? The job I arranged for your brother isn’t bad, is it? Being my messenger is much safer than going out to kill zombies and mutant creatures.”

The maiden beneath him first showed a tense expression, then forced a stiff smile. ”Feifei is very grateful for Mayor Li’s generosity.”

Seeing the maiden beneath him looking desolate and sorrowful yet forcing a smile, Mayor Li laughed heartily. He leaned down and kissed her. Soon, the room was filled with the sound of heavy breathing.

「The large truck led the way, heading directly for the Mudanjiang City toll station. Several vehicles packed with survivors followed closely behind.」

”Qiang Zi, what do you reckon the situation in Mudanjiang City is like?” Sun Ruixing, who was driving, chatted with Qiang Zi in the passenger seat.

”I estimate it might be better than here, but not by much. Brother Sun, you know there are no troops around Mudanjiang City.”

Qiang Zi had his own views on the current situation, and they were mostly correct.

”Who says otherwise? But these old folks just don’t believe it. I can’t do anything about it. If something really happens later, I’ll have to rely on you, Qiang Zi, and the brothers to put in more effort.”

Qiang Zi was an old friend of Sun Ruixing and was one of the first to follow Sun Ruixing when the apocalypse began. Naturally, Sun Ruixing trusted Qiang Zi deeply.

”Don’t worry, Brother Sun. It’s what I should do,” Qiang Zi patted his chest and said to Sun Ruixing.

”However, Brother Sun, are we going to keep supporting them like this? Lately, when the brothers went out to find supplies, they discovered that the remaining food is dwindling. I’m afraid the remaining grain in Hualin Town won’t last us a few months.”

Hearing Qiang Zi’s complaint, a complex and conflicted look flashed in Sun Ruixing’s eyes, soon replaced by determination. ”These elderly people are alone and helpless. If we don’t take care of them, they’re sure to die. How is that different from killing them with our own hands? I, Sun Ruixing, can’t bring myself to be so cruel. Don’t mention this matter again.”

Qiang Zi sighed silently and said no more.

As silence fell over the vehicle once more, just as Qiang Zi was about to speak, a loud screech of tires came from the rear, followed by ear-piercing screams.

”Help! Help!”

”Quick, stop the vehicles ahead! The last car broke down! There are mutant beasts!”

”Boss, Boss! Mutant beasts!”

Hearing the shouts from behind, Sun Ruixing immediately halted the truck, grabbed his battle saber and wooden shield, and hurriedly jumped out.

The convoy was attacked by several mutant mountain goats that had rapidly caught up. The small goats, usually less than half a person’s height, had been transformed by Demonic Qi and grown to be taller than a person. Charging at high speed, they caught up to the convoy from behind. One rammed the last private car with its mutated horns, nearly flipping it over. Thankfully, the driver’s skills were quite remarkable, and he managed to park the car on the roadside in the emergency.

When Sun Ruixing rushed over, the mutant mountain goats had already been killed by the professionists.

Seeing the dead mountain goats’ blood-red eyes staring fixedly at everyone, the sense of unease in Sun Ruixing’s heart grew stronger.

He had encountered mutant mountain goats a while ago, but those herbivores would never attack humans proactively.

”Quick! Everyone, back in the cars! Go back the way we came! Hurry!” Sun Ruixing roared at everyone in the convoy.

”Boss, it’s too late...” Qiang Zi gulped hard and said tremblingly to Sun Ruixing.

Seeing countless figures rushing towards them at extreme speed, cold sweat immediately beaded on Sun Ruixing’s forehead.

”How... how could this be happening?!”

”Blood Bone Incense (C-Class item): Made from refined Blood and Flesh Essence. Once lit, it attracts all mutant creatures within a ten-kilometer radius.”

”I acquired this item in a treasure land. Since it’s too uncontrollable, using it on Sun Ruixing’s group isn’t a waste,” Mayor Li said calmly to the person next to him.

”Mayor Li is truly brilliant.”

”Following Mayor Li is truly a blessing for us.”

”Mayor Li wiped out Sun Ruixing and his gang with a wave of his hand. Brothers, following Mayor Li, we’ll definitely eat well and live well. When the government is re-established, Mayor Li will surely achieve great merit. Maybe we can even become minor officials.”

Listening to the flattery around him, Mayor Li smiled faintly. He turned and asked the thin boy standing behind him, ”Bai Xiao’an, how is the organization of our men going?”

”Mayor Li, most of our professionists are waiting in the hall. I’ve left one-third of them to guard our base,” Bai Xiao’an replied meekly from behind him.

”Good.” Mayor Li nodded in satisfaction.

”Then let’s set off. By the way, Xiao’an, don’t call me Mayor Li anymore. You should call me brother-in-law. Haha, hahaha!”

Accompanied by Mayor Li’s wild laughter, all the leaders in the room joined in laughing. Only Bai Xiao’an’s face turned increasingly pale, but he couldn’t say a word.

”Let’s go. From now on, Hualin Town will be ours to command.” Mayor Li waved his hand grandly and led his subordinates out to the main hall.

In the main hall, nearly a hundred professionists wielding steel sabers waited quietly. Seeing Mayor Li and the others walk out the door, they quickly followed.

This was the strength of the most powerful gathering place in Town hl at present.
