Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 81: Chapter 38: Cannon Fodder Blocks the Way, Powerful Expert Attacks!_1

With the departure of the Level 2 zombie that had just entered the town hospital, all the zombies in Chaihe Town stirred to action.

Innumerable zombies crawled out from residential houses, underground tunnels, and even sewers.

On the orderly streets of Chaihe Town, more and more zombies appeared, spreading out like a great net, slowly closing in on Wen Yu.

...

After walking for several hundred meters, he hadn’t encountered a single zombie.

Wen Yu carefully listened for the faintest sounds in the air until a chaotic shuffling of footsteps gradually drew near. Judging by the sound, there were quite a few of them!

Wen Yu sighed, ”This situation is really bad!” He led Cyclops straight towards the source of the noise.

Zombies often let out inexplicable, incoherent roars, but the zombies in Chaihe Town did not!

This was the difference between an army and a mob, and their combat power differed vastly.

Just after turning a corner, Wen Yu came face-to-face with an approaching horde of zombies.

The leading zombie stared at Wen Yu in astonishment, savage brutality flaring in its eyes.

Level 2!

The moment he saw this zombie, Wen Yu had noticed its distinct qualities.

Its movements were coordinated, and he could clearly perceive emotional fluctuations in its eyes.

The zombie’s claws slashed out wildly but were parried by Wen Yu’s steel saber. Cyclops, beside Wen Yu, opened his great maw and bit directly into the zombie’s waist.

Only then did the zombie’s shriek pierce the sky, as the low-level zombies behind it roared and charged forward.

”Cyclops, kill it,” Wen Yu ordered. Ignoring the Level 2 zombie, he charged straight at the group of low-level zombies, leaving the former to Cyclops.

The battle erupted on the narrow street.

If one were to look down from the sky above Chaihe Town, they would see that as Wen Yu engaged this group of zombies, other zombies not yet at the battlefield suddenly quickened their pace, rushing towards the source of the roars.

And each zombie leading a group silently slowed its pace, gradually disappearing into the horde of outwardly similar zombies.

Level 2 zombies also possess intelligence! This is the most terrifying part.

Cyclops was entangled with the Level 2 zombie, while Wen Yu had already lopped off the heads of many low-level zombies.

His points rose continuously, but the composure in Wen Yu’s eyes only intensified.

Greed is a significant reason people fall into an abyss.

He kicked a Level one zombie, killing it instantly. Seeing that Cyclops had beaten the Level 2 zombie into a pulp, Wen Yu stepped forward and finished off the Level 2 zombie, still clenched in Cyclops’s jaws, with a single strike of his saber.

”Let’s go! We’ve spent too much time here!”

Cyclops whined twice, then, biting onto the Level 2 zombie’s corpse, charged into the horde.

Cyclops was reluctant to discard such high-quality food as a Level 2 zombie!

His massive body combined with overwhelming power made every part of Cyclops’s body a weapon.

Only then did Wen Yu realize his battle strategy was somewhat flawed; letting Cyclops handle the low-level zombies was clearly the better choice.

As Cyclops charged, their forward progress quickened. However, the surrounding zombies seemed to have received some kind of order. They pounced heedlessly, even if it meant using their bodies to block Wen Yu for less than a second—they considered it a worthy sacrifice.

They succeeded. As more zombies continuously poured in from behind, Wen Yu and Cyclops found themselves trapped in a narrow alley.

”Fight!”

At Wen Yu’s roar, Cyclops instantly dropped the Level 2 zombie’s corpse from his mouth and rammed headfirst into the swarm of zombies.

It was like a car crash. The charging horde of zombies faltered for a moment, and those closest to Cyclops were instantly crushed into paste.

Cyclops didn’t escape unscathed. The sheer number of zombies created an overwhelming force. Their combined impact sent Cyclops flying backward. His four legs scrambled for a few steps before he regained his balance.

During the brief moment the zombie horde stalled, Wen Yu swung his steel saber furiously, leaving a trail of gore. Cyclops, having recovered, roared and positioned himself beside Wen Yu.

Like reefs amidst the waves, Wen Yu and Cyclops stood firm, unshaken.

Within the zombie horde, gazes tinged with emotion continuously swept over Wen Yu and Cyclops. Then, as if locking onto their targets, these zombies slowly moved towards the ongoing slaughter.

Wen Yu forcefully cleaved the skull of a Level one zombie. A zombie’s claws scratched at his body but failed to tear through his E-Class protective suit.

Swing, cut, repeat.

Although the danger wasn’t extreme, the physical exertion was immense. If Cyclops hadn’t been taking half the pressure, Wen Yu doubted he could have handled such a massive horde alone.

Until his steel saber got wedged in the skull of a Level One Peak Zombie.

The steel saber was merely a consumable. Although the sharpness and toughness of an E-Class steel saber were greatly improved, any weapon could suffer unexpected mishaps, and bladed weapons were no exception.

This would normally be a minor issue, something Wen Yu had encountered many times. He kicked the zombie’s body, and the immense force sent it flying, naturally dislodging the saber.

However, this delay of less than a second gave certain zombies an opportunity.

A figure suddenly darted out from the back of the zombie horde. In appearance, it looked no different from an ordinary zombie, but it moved exceptionally quickly.

Realization flashed through Wen Yu’s eyes. He was sure that Level 2 zombies had begun to appear in Chaihe Town. There had been just one before; now, another had shown up.

Wen Yu quickly slashed his steel saber at the oncoming zombie. The Level 2 zombie twisted its head, evading the sharp blade. Though one of its hands was severed, it achieved its goal—its other hand clamped down firmly on Wen Yu’s right foot!

An intense sense of crisis welled up. Ignoring the zombie gripping his foot, Wen Yu ducked sharply, evading another Level 2 zombie that flew just over his head.

But he heard three distinct whooshes!

”Cyclops!” Wen Yu’s explosive shout rang out. Through the power of their soul contract, Wen Yu and Cyclops’s minds were linked.

Cyclops charged headlong into another Level 2 zombie, his massive body intercepting the final attack aimed at Wen Yu. That last Level 2 zombie sank its teeth viciously into Cyclops’s neck.

”AWOOOO!”

A Level 2 zombie’s bite was not to be taken lightly; the damage to Cyclops was undoubtedly severe.

At this point, Wen Yu had already crushed the skull of the first Level 2 zombie that had grabbed his foot.

Ignoring Cyclops’s pained cries from behind, Wen Yu reasoned that as long as Cyclops could still cry out, he could still fight. With Cyclops’s abilities, as long as he could fight, the outcome was still uncertain!

Wen Yu swung his steel saber to meet the attack of the Level 2 zombie that had just flown over his head, unleashing his full strength.

His physical abilities were boosted by the combined state of High Speed combined with Union.

It took only five slashes to dispatch this early-stage Level 2 zombie.

Then, he turned to look behind him.
