Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 90: Chapter 47: Cleaning Up_1

Sun Ruixing collapsed to the ground, panting heavily. Under him lay the headless corpses of several zombies. This was the fifth wave of pursuing zombies Sun Ruixing had killed. He had left late, and among the zombie horde, some Level one zombies possessed physical abilities exceeding his own! His survival, despite these odds, was a testament to his sheer luck.

Seeing the massive, stumbling zombie horde approaching in the distance, Sun Ruixing couldn’t help but feel a wave of despair!

In the previous fight, a zombie had bitten his leg, significantly impairing his mobility.

Given his current speed, Sun Ruixing knew he definitely couldn’t escape their relentless pursuit!

Just as Sun Ruixing steeled himself for a final, desperate battle, turmoil suddenly erupted among the zombies!

Zombies farther away from him began to wander aimlessly, while only a few that had caught his scent accelerated and bolted towards him!

Sun Ruixing was stunned; the zombies charging at him weren’t strong and were well within his ability to handle.

Quickly dispatching these zombies, Sun Ruixing watched the distant zombie horde scatter further. A thought flashed through his mind.

Is the Corpse King... dead?

Wen Yu stumbled upon an Exchange Stone Pillar. The Zombie King and Cyclops in the fire pit, plus the scattered zombies he’d killed, had earned him over one thousand points.

His current injuries were severe; Wen Yu even suspected minor internal bleeding, not to mention the secondary damage from the Giant Eagle’s chilling aura.

He immediately exchanged his points for two intermediate healing potions and drank them down.

His wounds quickly healed, and the chill was rapidly expelled from his body. After a brief moment of testing his movements, he felt his body was largely recovered. Wen Yu immediately shifted into combat mode and sprinted in the direction the camp members had retreated.

The Corpse King was dead. Without its leadership, these low-level zombies were now an absolute feast!

Thanks to Wen Yu’s exceptional physical strength, he reached the camp’s front gate in less than ten minutes.

Flames still raged in the large pit, and the air reeked of rot mingled with the smell of cooked meat.

The strange smell made Wen Yu’s stomach churn.

”This is fucking worse than a shithole!”

Waving a hand in disgust before his nose, Wen Yu immediately rushed after the retreating group!

Within two minutes, scattered zombies began to appear. Wen Yu promptly accelerated, charging at a Level one zombie like a gust of wind!

The zombie was decapitated by Wen Yu before it could even react!

The zombies scattered along the way posed little threat. Without the Corpse King’s leadership, they could only wander aimlessly, searching for the scent of flesh and blood they might never find.

Wen Yu, adhering to the principle of not wasting points, killed virtually every zombie he encountered.

”Brother Wen Yu? Brother Wen Yu?”

Just as Wen Yu was engrossed in the slaughter, a voice called out from a nearby field.

Looking in the direction of the voice, Wen Yu immediately spotted Sun Ruixing lying on the ground.

”Oh, Old Sun, you’re not dead yet?”

Wen Yu chuckled upon seeing Sun Ruixing. Sun Ruixing’s injuries weren’t severe; only his leg was hurt. However, to avoid a brutal fight, he had buried the lower half of his body, the mud masking the scent of blood and helping him evade detection by the zombies.

Recognizing the approaching figure as Wen Yu, Sun Ruixing immediately crawled out, shook off the mud, and stared at Wen Yu in astonishment.

”Brother, is the Corpse King... dead?”

”Yeah, I killed it!”

Sun Ruixing smacked his lips and said admiringly, ”Brother, you’re incredible! That terrifying Corpse King... you killed it, just like that...”

”Come on, Old Sun, enough with the flattery. Don’t you see all these zombies are practically free points? We don’t have time for idle chat.”

Hearing Wen Yu, Sun Ruixing glanced at the dispersed zombie horde nearby, his eyes instantly brightening.

Currently, the zombie threat was minimal, and only he and Wen Yu knew the Corpse King was dead.

No one else was around to compete for the kills, and there were plenty of zombies. This was a godsend!

”Heh, so you get it now? Considering our friendship, I’ll reluctantly cut you in on this. How many points you manage to grab is up to you. And remember, be careful. If you encounter a particularly tough Level one zombie, you could be in serious danger!”

With tens of thousands of zombies, Wen Yu didn’t believe he could eliminate all of them in a short period. He didn’t mind Sun Ruixing joining him.

”By the way, where are Zang Pengfei and the others?”

”They disappeared quite a while ago.”

”Oh, well, they’re just out of luck then!”

After a few brief questions, Wen Yu charged directly towards the densest concentration of zombies. The Chaihe Town zombie cleanup operation had officially begun, and it wouldn’t be long before more humans joined in!

Zang Pengfei led a large group all the way into Chaihe Town.

Apart from a few scattered zombies, they encountered hardly any danger along the way.

Chaihe Town wasn’t entirely peaceful; some zombies hadn’t been summoned by the Corpse King, or were trapped in rooms, unable to get out. However, these were a minority.

”Brother Fei, do you think the Corpse King will catch up to us?” Sun Aotian, standing next to Zang Pengfei, asked.

Zang Pengfei pondered for a moment, then said hesitantly, ”I don’t know. We’d better pray the Corpse King doesn’t catch up, at least not while we’re crossing Chaihe Town.”

This was Zang Pengfei’s plan: exploit the window of opportunity while the Corpse King led most of the zombies away, and guide the survivors out of Chaihe Town’s sphere of influence!

”By the way, where is Brother Wen Yu?”

Zang Pengfei had used the Teleportation Scroll, targeting one of his trusted subordinates, so he hadn’t seen Wen Yu rush to provide support.

Sun Aotian, on the other hand, had run into Wen Yu while fleeing.

”Wen Yu seemed to have gone after the Corpse King. He must be dead, right?” Sun Aotian said, somewhat hesitantly.

The Corpse King was terrifying, but Wen Yu also exuded an imposing aura that deeply unsettled Sun Aotian.

Zang Pengfei asked Sun Aotian in surprise, ”Are you sure?”

”Yes, when I was running back, I saw Wen Yu heading towards the battlefield.”

Zang Pengfei paused. After thinking for a long moment, he told Sun Aotian, ”You lead the team ahead. I need to go back and check.”

Before Sun Aotian could react, Zang Pengfei had already rushed back.

Sun Aotian stood there, stupefied, watching Zang Pengfei recede into the distance. A possibility suddenly struck him.

What if... Wen Yu killed the Corpse King?
