Chapter 382: Chapter 304: Old Grudges and Schemes, Marie’s Return

The appearance of the Dragon Eagle Knights is a sign, indicating that the expeditionary army is not far away from them.

With a command from Shafuri, a deacon raised his magic staff and cast a signal magic into the sky, causing a red phantom of a raven to burst like fireworks over Odu Village.

The red light illuminated Odu Village, making it highly conspicuous even though it was not yet dark.

In an instant, the totem pillars in eight directions around Odu Village started to emit black light, shooting up into the sky. Hundreds of meters above Odu Village, they formed a gray dome-like curtain, covering the entire village.

When Zong Shen had sneaked into Odu Village, he once glanced at these totem pillars from afar, thinking they were merely decorative. In fact, they were one of the arrangements set by the Calamity Raven Church.

The black-gray light screen created by these totem pillars, known as the Raven Dome, is actually a kind of protective magic. It serves a function similar to the [Mobile Magical Array] Zong Shen obtained on Lake Heart Island, forming a shield that can withstand damage.

However, there are some differences in the strength of the shields.

The strength of the light screen formed by these totem pillars is clearly much higher than that of the magic energy array.

Each totem pillar’s base is set with a rune magic array, incorporating not only a large number of magic energy crystals but also many raven bones, evidently another mysterious technique of the Calamity Raven Church.

After the Raven Dome was formed, the Dragon Eagle Knights were unable to peep into any situation from the air.

Denise, the captain of the Dragon Eagle Knight squad, frowned as she looked at Odu Village covered by the Raven Dome, quickly maneuvering the Dragon Eagle Beast to rise to an altitude of three to four thousand meters and stop there.

The remaining eleven Dragon Eagle Warriors in the squad also gathered around her. The Dragon Eagle Beasts flapped their wings, maintaining a hovering stance.

”These cunning heretics almost immediately discovered us.”

”Those agitated flocks of ravens were probably attracted by the renowned Tower of the Raven.”

”Lord Kunyel was right; these guys are clearly prepared.”

”Yom, immediately return along the way we came and report the situation to Lord Kunyel in advance.”

”He should have his own judgment on this. We cannot blindly charge forward this time, or we might suffer a loss.”

Denise, the female captain of the Dragon Eagle Knights, analyzed calmly, selecting a Dragon Eagle Knight to report the news to Kunyel.

After receiving the order, the Dragon Eagle Knight guided his Dragon Eagle Beast out of the formation, heading eastward.

Meanwhile, Denise led the remaining Dragon Eagle Knights towards the east of Odu Village, preparing to temporarily camp about a hundred kilometers away and await the arrival of the main force.

Below, the Raven Saintess Shafuri suddenly smiled, her eyes gleaming with wisdom.

”Everything is more or less as we anticipated.”

”That fool from the Avalon Royal Family actually rejected the Archbishop’s terms.”

”Those who reject the Raven Deity will only welcome decline and ruin.”

”It’s time to teach them a lesson.”

”Once the Raven Spirit is successfully summoned, the strength of the church will increase significantly.”

The Raven Saintess Shafuri spoke leisurely, as the church had long plotted for this operation.

The choice to strike here came after extensive preparation and intelligence work, which also related to the attitude of the Avalon’s upper echelon.

On this continent, especially among the Human Race, there are many churches with varying strengths. Some have been passed down for over ten thousand years, some have only risen in the last few thousand years, some are thriving, and some have declined, each with its own forces and scope of development.

For a church to remain prosperous and continue its legacy, the most crucial point is the need for a massive amount of faith and support from believers. Gaining the support of kingdom forces is akin to taking a shortcut.

However, few kingdoms would agree to allow church forces to settle in, or let divine authority affect royal power. No one in their right mind would agree, especially the royal family members and nobles with vested interests.

Therefore, most churches are labeled as heretics. The Calamity Raven Church isn’t weak, possessing two Giant City Level strongholds: Cold Crow Valley and the Isle of Calamity. Its overall strength makes it a second-rate church, unable to confront a kingdom head-on, but capable of conquering a giant city if it goes all out.

Previously, the Archbishop of the Calamity Raven Church had approached a powerful prince within the Avalon Royal Family, seeking to exchange support from the Calamity Raven Church for tacit permission to develop believers and spread its faith in the kingdom.

However, due to internal interest conflicts within the kingdom, the plan ultimately failed, prompting the Calamity Raven Church to place this Raven Spirit summoning operation here.

First, because there are burial grounds here, and the ancient great demon souls therein fit the requirements.

Second, to give the Avalon Kingdom a warning. This operation has been preplanned and prepared for several months. They do not intend to conduct a prolonged battle here, merely to summon the Raven Spirit and then eliminate the Lentates Giant City’s expeditionary army, to vex the kingdom’s leaders and let them know the Calamity Raven Church is no scapegoat, but a fierce lion.
