Chapter 486: Chapter 58: Suffocating

The armored vehicle sped across the vast grassland, leaving behind two tracks.

Su Xiao sat in the driver’s seat, his hand on the steering wheel, a cigarette between his fingers, while Bubu Wang occupied the co-driver’s seat.

At this moment, the window on Bubu Wang’s side was open, and Bubu Wang had its head out of the car, its lips flapping in the strong wind as it ’battled’ against the gusts. In a mishap, it bit its tongue, whimpering as it retracted its head.

Su Xiao had been driving in the ordinary area for three hours. Compared to the red soil area, this place felt like heaven.

Breathing in the fresh air, Su Xiao suddenly felt a bit speechless. If other people’s trial difficulty was Level 10, his was at least Level 15.

”How much further?”

Su Xiao turned his head and tapped the back of the seat. Old Bar sat up, his eyes still blurry with sleep.

”What?”

”How much further.”

Old Bar rubbed the sleep from his eyes, then took out a small piece of blood vine from his pocket and closed his eyes to perceive.

”At this speed, we’ll meet up in no more than two days.”

Old Bar tapped the window of the armored vehicle and said, ”This thing’s good, just too noisy when it runs.”

Su Xiao nodded, hesitating whether to drive the armored vehicle into the Black Forest.

Though the armored vehicle was an obvious target, it also provided a good layer of protection, at least alleviating concerns about snakes, insects, and pests.

This decision would be made when they reached the edge of the Black Forest. The current priority was to find those two Contractors.

Those two Contractors belonged to the Sun Woman’s camp. Originally, her plan was to send them into the Black Forest to die.

Su Xiao guessed that the two Contractors wouldn’t willingly venture deep into the Black Forest, yet it was imperative to find them. They had something very important on them.

As the armored vehicle drove across the prairie, a roaring engine sound suddenly came from the sky.

Buzz buzz~.

A plane flew overhead. Su Xiao stuck his head out the window and looked up.

The plane seemed more and more familiar the longer he looked at it. Could it be the same one that brought him here? What was it planning to do? Pick someone up?

”Uncle Mouse is here again today, little cubs, it’s time to party. Today holds a surprise.”

A loud voice came from the plane, amplified through a loudspeaker, audible over a great distance.

Contractors in the nearby region turned their eyes to the plane, greed flickering in their eyes.

The plane’s rear hatch opened, and a purple iron box was dropped down.

Seeing the color of the box, the Contractors’ eyes widened.

”Purple Airdrop Box, should we try our luck?”

”Forgot yesterday’s blue box? How many died for that?”

”Bullshit! Yesterday’s blue box had three Soul Crystals (Medium), three! Plus food, fresh water, and healing items.”

By this point, the Contractor could hardly hold back.

The purple airdrop box was thrown down. After a certain distance in freefall, its parachute opened, slowing its descent. The flare at the bottom of the box glowed bright enough to be seen from afar.

With the purple airdrop box at its center, dozens of Contractors around employed various means to rapidly close the distance.

The armored vehicle raced across the prairie, dirt and grass flying. Su Xiao watched the purple iron box descending in the distance with great interest.

Through days of exploration, most Contractors knew what an airdrop box might contain.

Healing items, food, and fresh water were essentials. If lucky, an airdrop box might also have Soul Crystals, Skill Scrolls, and Attribute Enhancement Potions—rare items indeed.

One airdrop box appeared daily, and every time it triggered a furious scramble among Contractors.

...

Before long, a large number of Contractors had surrounded the purple airdrop box.

However, these Contractors were still at a distance from the box, but they shared one goal—to snatch it.

The airdrop box floated gently down; estimating the distance, it was about ten meters from touching ground.

Crack.

The parachute on the purple airdrop box tore, accelerating its fall. Surrounding the area, a dozen Contractors eyed each other warily; all were enemies now. None dared to move too quickly toward the box, fearing becoming a target.

Buzz~.

The roar of an engine echoed as an armored vehicle riddled with bullet holes approached.

A Contractor stood right in its path, too focused on the airdrop to notice. By the time he did, it was too late.

Su Xiao didn’t ease on the brakes. Instead, he stomped the accelerator.

Bam.

With a scream, the Contractor was sent flying, tumbling over the ground for dozens of meters before struggling to his feet, clutching his lower back.

Su Xiao maneuvered the armored vehicle under the airdrop box, even reversing slightly to position it just right.

Clang.

The armored vehicle’s suspension sank slightly as the purple airdrop box landed squarely on its roof.

Sizzle~.

A Boundary Line fired out, wrapping around the airdrop box on the vehicle’s roof. With a slam on the accelerator, the armored vehicle sped away with the box, leaving the dumbfounded Contractors behind. It all happened in just two seconds.

”My purple airdrop!”

A burly man was furious, unshouldering his shotgun and firing several rounds at the armored vehicle.

Not only the burly man, but other Contractors also unleashed all kinds of long-range abilities, bombarding the armored vehicle relentlessly.

Su Xiao ignored the Contractors, not wanting to engage in such chaotic battles as he had zero healing items.

Seconds later, the armored vehicle was distant. A female Contractor’s mouth twitched incessantly.

”This operation left me breathless.”

The surrounding Contractors ceased their attacks, but the burly man with the shotgun kept reloading, a gesture revealing his sheer desperation.

”Disperse.”

”What a disappointment. With my strength, that airdrop would definitely have been mine.”

”Luck is a part of strength too. But if he dared to stop, I’d definitely obliterate him.”

The nearby Contractors gradually dispersed. Among them, a few exchanged cold glances, nodded silently, and tailed a smaller group of Contractors.

The armored vehicle carrying the airdrop box sped forward, trailing a line of red smoke.

The airdrop box had used every possible means to attract Contractors, yet before hitting ground, Su Xiao had whisked it away.

Typically, contents within an airdrop box would be divided among several Contractors. A single person managing to get close was unlikely and would require cover.

Su Xiao monopolized the airdrop box, essentially seizing provisions meant for multiple people. Importantly, this particular airdrop box was a first—purple.

On the plane, Mr. Mouse observed the scene through sensors on the airdrop box.

”Haha, this kid is amusing. Tomorrow’s airdrop will be heavier, no more parachute. Let’s see how you’ll catch it.”

Mr. Mouse took several swigs of wine, the liquid dripping from his mustache.

”Y-You damn mouse.”

A feeble voice came from the back of the plane.

”Shut up. Trying to escape Devouring Island only leads to death.”

Mr. Mouse pressed a button beside him, opening the plane’s rear hatch. A powerful suction emerged.

”No, no, give me another chance. I won’t run again, I was wrong...”

Fearful shouts erupted from the back of the plane.

”Goodbye, unnamed Contractor.”

A Contractor, loaded with iron blocks, was tossed from the plane, a flare tied to his head.

Contractors below noticed the flare.

”Another airdrop? Chase it!”

A swarm of Contractors rushed forth—Mr. Mouse’s twisted amusement.
