Painful to the extreme, once endured, the comfort that followed was equally profound.

Li Yu sat in his room, watching the sunset for a full hour.

As usual, he headed to the dining hall for a meal.

He saw Zhou Weiguo rush in from outside the dining hall, his face brimming with happiness.

”Old Zhou, you seem really happy.” Li Yu said to Zhou Weiguo with a smile.

Upon hearing Li Yu call out to him, Zhou Weiguo hurried over and said excitedly, ”Three sows have given birth to piglets, more than thirty in total.”

This was indeed good news; the sows were already bearing piglets so soon after recovery.

”That’s great, well done, Old Zhou.” At the same table, Second Uncle, hearing the news from Zhou Weiguo, spoke up cheerfully.

Zhou Weiguo scratched his head, his face full of smiles.

”Alright, go have your meal.” Li Yu said to Zhou Weiguo.

Zhou Weiguo left promptly.

Seeing that Second Uncle was also there, Li Yu picked up his meal box and sat down next to him.

”Second Uncle, now that the weather is back to normal, we need to keep pushing our base’s various arrangements forward.” Li Yu said, sitting beside Second Uncle.

Second Uncle thought for a moment and asked, ”Do you mean we need to expand the base’s territory?”

Li Yu hesitated, organizing his thoughts before replying, ”That’s only part of it, the other part is the Western Alliance!”

On hearing those four words from Li Yu, Second Uncle’s emotions fluctuated.

The Western Alliance.

A place that had been mentioned repeatedly a few months ago.

”Li Yu, what do you mean?” Second Uncle pondered briefly before asking tentatively.

Without hesitation, Li Yu replied, ”Gan Gaojie was killed by me, and over at Juzi Island, according to what Ju Tianrui and the others said, that Gan Shang is also a narrow-minded person. Although it’s been so long, if they investigate and find out, they will eventually cause us trouble, so it’s better to deal with this potential threat before they come to us.”

Second Uncle frowned; he wasn’t in favor of Li Yu going out so soon.

The zombie outbreak had just ended, and the weather had only recently stabilized.

They were still unaware of the current situation outside.

Rushing out hastily could lead to accidents.

”How about we wait a bit longer?” Second Uncle tentatively voiced his opinion, ”After all, we have just settled down. Let’s wait a little longer.”

”I think now is a good opportunity,” Li Yu still persuaded, ”Taking advantage of the recent end of the Zombie Tide, we must take this chance to settle the matter decisively. Once they recover, it will be difficult for us to deal with them.”

Second Uncle stopped persuading and then asked, ”When do you plan to go over and find them?”

Li Yu counted the days and answered, ”This time, I plan to bring along Ju Tianrui and his group, as they are familiar with Gan Shang and they have unresolved grievances with him. It’s more appropriate to take them along. As for timing, I think a week at most.”

”That works, we’ll discuss it at the internal meeting later. You bring it up, and I’ll back you up at that time. Also, I heard from Sister Zhou that you had her prepare some food materials, are you planning another feast?” Second Uncle recalled that earlier this morning, Aunt Zhou and some others were busy, so he asked.

Li Yu saw the dining hall filling up with people and said to Second Uncle, ”Yes, I feel that everyone has worked hard lately and has been under a lot of stress. Getting everyone together to relax a bit would help.”

Second Uncle nodded and asked, ”I don’t object, but I don’t have the exact figures on how much food we currently have. Also, regarding the feast, what should we do about the Extra Staff and Cooperative Personnel from the Second Outer City?”

Li Yu pondered for a few seconds, then said, ”We moved 800 tons of food from Luo Tianyan, plus the 180 tons I had hoarded. Over the past year and the last harvest, we have a total of 200 tons, making it 1180 tons in total.

However, in these nearly two years, including exchanging food with people outside the base, we have consumed a total of 150 tons, leaving us with 1030 tons. We have enough food.

As for the Extra Staff and Cooperative Personnel, they’ve been honest and have contributed to some extent.

I think we can lower the standard a little and give them a meal as well. It could boost unity within the base.

Plus, this time, Xiao Hu, Zhu Xiao, and Guo Peng performed well. Some people are about to earn enough points to enter the city.

For instance, Zuo Ruxue and Xiao Hu have been cooperating with the base for seven or eight months; we could actually invite them to join the feast.”

Second Uncle listened to the numbers Li Yu cited.

He began calculating in his mind:

Currently, the base, including the Outer City, has nearly three hundred people.

There are 160 Extra Staff and 1380 Cooperative Personnel.

In total, there are 1840 people.

Calculating at 400 pounds of food per person per year,

To sustain everyone, it would require 368 tons of food per year.

Just relying on the food stored in the base, that would be enough for three years.

But at their current scale of under three hundred people, they would only need around forty tons of food per year. Including the Extra Staff and Cooperative Personnel, it would take another ten or so tons per year.

That’s roughly sixty tons in all.

The consumption of 368 tons versus 60 tons.
