Chapter 786: Chapter 595: The Sound No Longer Distracts the Zombies?_2

The wind began to howl.

In less than five minutes, zombies had piled up to a height of eight or nine meters.

Li Yu ordered the mobile switch blade to be activated.

Ka-ka-ka—

The mobile switch blade sped up from slow to fast, and eventually, its speed kept increasing.

The merciless blade bisected zombies at the waist one after another.

The other zombies below, seeing the falling corpses, rushed up to snatch and devour them.

And the zombies behind them charged at the walls with even more frenzy.

Before, when there weren’t as many zombies, simply turning on the mobile switch blade would result in some of the zombies being killed, and those below would naturally scramble for the remains, causing the height of the pile to decrease.

But now, with too many zombies, the fallen corpses weren’t fully consumed before more zombies that missed out charged forward.

This led to the pile’s height not decreasing.

The mobile switch blade, which was supposed to be turned on for only a few minutes, did not stop this time.

From eight meters to twelve meters in height, it was a battle field from Hell.

Countless zombies tirelessly surged forward, only to be cut in half by the mobile switch blade.

But the speed of the zombies rushing in was too fast.

The pile of zombies gradually covered the mobile switch blade, and too many corpses overwhelmed the blade.

He Bing immediately told Li Yu upon seeing this scene: ”Director Li, we must shut down the mobile switch blade now. The zombies are moving too quickly, and it’s surpassed the capacity of the blade. With so many zombies pressing down on the blade, it’s likely to get jammed, and it might not withstand the weight of so many zombies.”

Li Yu, of course, was aware.

The primary obstacle to the mobile switch blade was the sheer number of zombies rushing from behind, leaving no chance for the blade to clear them.

The main problem wasn’t the zombies at the edge of the wall, but rather those dozens of meters away.

They had to control the speed of their assault, otherwise, without even ten minutes, they could pile up to the same height as the wall.

”Detonate the landmines buried in the forests outside. Stop them first,” Li Yu said to Li Tie.

They had secured some explosives and landmines from the arsenal back then. These landmines were buried in the dozens of meters between the mountain forest and the base.

The purpose was that, should the number of zombies reach a critical level, a blast could win them some time.

Now was the appropriate time to detonate the landmines.

Li Tie’s eyes widened; he didn’t expect to have to use them so soon.

He then rushed into the duty room.

He found a key from a box and then opened an iron cabinet hanging on the wall.

He saw a row of buttons on the iron cabinet.

After hesitating for a second, Li Tie shouted to everyone outside the duty room: ”I’m going to detonate!!”

Outside the duty room stood Third Uncle, Second Uncle, Uncle, Old Qin, Old Luo, and dozens of others.

They covered their ears with their hands and crouched down.

Seeing them crouching, Li Tie gritted his teeth, hesitated for three seconds, then pressed six buttons.

Then he quickly leaned against the wall, covering his ears firmly.

The next second.

Boom, boom, boom...

The ground and mountains shook!

The tall walls were also shaken, the snow accumulated on the battlements was knocked down.

Zombie limbs and severed arms flew against the wall.

Pop, pop, pop, pop—

The sounds of explosions lasted for nearly ten seconds.

The deafening noise caused ringing in the ears of everyone on the wall.

After ten seconds, the explosions stopped.

Li Yu shook his head and slowly stood up.

About ten meters away from the wall to thirty meters in the direction of the forest, only a few scattered zombies remained standing.

The explosions torched the zombies, and flames were everywhere, the air filled with the scent of rotting flesh being barbecued, making people want to vomit after smelling it.

There were still many zombies on the forest side.

They rushed towards the bodies of zombies killed within this thirty-meter radius.

Tearing, biting, devouring.

The zombies clinging to the walls, no longer supplemented by more zombies, faced drastically reduced pressure on the Mobile Switch Blade. The Switch Blade, which had been jammed by the multitude of zombies, was now exerting its power effectively.

The zombies that had climbed up to a height of 14 meters, like a sand castle accumulated, were continuously collapsing.

Eventually collapsing to only five or six meters in height, these zombies, after falling down, saw the ground full of zombie corpses and stopped climbing the walls, instead continuing to consume the bodies of the zombies.

Seeing this scene, Li Yu heaved a sigh of relief.

Taking advantage of this slight slowdown, Li Yu said to Li Gang and the others, ”Go get the drones out and use the broadcast to lead some of these zombies away; there are too many of them.”

Li Gang and Yang Tianlong hurried to retrieve the drones.

They brought out a total of four drones, each equipped with a loudspeaker.

”Hurry up and release the drones, try to lead them out towards the national road and draw them away,” said Li Yu urgently.

Buzzing—

One drone took off, followed by the second, third, and fourth.

After ascending, the drones headed towards the national road.

Beep—

The drone emitted a sound, with a searchlight at the front illuminating the path ahead.

However, the noise from the drones did not immediately draw the zombies away; they raised their heads and roared in place.

Seeing this, everyone’s hearts skipped a beat.

A tactic that had never failed before was now ineffective.

”Fly towards the national road,” Li Yu said.

The drones flew outward, and the zombies on the national road, upon hearing the noise from above, stopped for a moment in confusion.

In the dark, snowy environment, the zombies’ sense of smell and hearing had reached an abnormally heightened state.

Their incredibly sensitive sense of smell allowed them to discern that there was a significant human scent coming from the township road.

Yet the sound from above greatly stimulated them.

Within the dense Zombie Tide, some zombies ignored the sound and continued to surge towards the township road.

But some zombies stretched out their hands, trying to grab the drones in the air.

Seeing this, Li Gang excitedly remote-controlled the drone to fly further towards the national road.

More zombies began to follow behind. Li Gang’s face showed joy as he continued to control the drone to fly even further towards the south.

The other drones cooperated with each other, endlessly luring zombies to follow them on the township road.

But they soon realized that the closer to the base, the fewer zombies chose to follow the drones.

And the further from the base, the higher the chance zombies would follow the drones.

The four drones worked together to lure the zombies southward.

But soon, they despaired to find that after following for a distance,

As soon as the drone’s loudspeaker was turned off, these zombies would return to their original position and join the other zombies in attacking the base.

The strategy to lead all the zombies away had failed.

Li Gang and the others were dispirited.

However, Li Yu was not too surprised by this result. A dying horse should be treated like a living one; it was worth a try.

”Don’t be discouraged, turn off the loudspeakers of the drones and fly them back. Let’s take turns sending out the four drones,” he said.

”Big brother, the zombies that are led away will come back later. What we’re doing doesn’t seem to make much difference,” someone remarked.

Li Yu looked at the zombies outside the fence, devouring at an extremely fast pace. In just the short while, the zombies that had been blown up had been reduced to less than half.

”Who said that if we can’t lead away all the zombies, it would be useless? Can’t the drones at least relieve our burden? Is it harder to face a hundred thousand zombies at once in an hour, or spread it out over 10 hours, facing ten thousand zombies at a time?” Li Yu argued.

Upon Li Yu’s reminder, Li Gang instantly realized the point.

Right, as long as we could draw away a portion of the zombies, even if they come back later, it still buys time for the base to kill the zombies.

Not to mention, just now, he had attracted away several thousand zombies.

Plus, the noise can disrupt some of the zombies’ judgment.

It prevents them from directly rushing into the township road, greatly easing the difficulty on the base’s walls.

”Okay.” Li Gang returned the drone, its battery depleted, to the duty room for charging, and then took out another drone and flew it out.
