Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 778: Chapter 592: Trap_2

Even so, their place is quite large, with walls on all sides, and crucially, it’s located on a river island. Once the river freezes, there are no obstructions from any direction, so zombies could come from anywhere.

Hence, there are many places that need defending.

Compared to the Big Camphor Tree Base, one side of the base’s walls is near a cliff, and behind two other sides are dense mountain forests that are not conducive to large masses of zombies forming. The only place under major pressure is where the village road connects.

Moreover, the Big Camphor Tree Base is built in a sparsely populated rural area.

Even so, the zombies at the Big Camphor Tree Base could potentially pile up to seven or eight meters high.

This means the pressure on Juzi Island is even greater.

There are more zombies to face than at the Big Camphor Tree Base, a larger area to defend, and the walls are several times shorter than those of the Big Camphor Tree Base.

This makes it very difficult for them.

Nearly every day people die, and each time someone gets bitten by a zombie, the others would not hesitate to kill them.

This has become an unwritten rule.

hours later, Hai Chao dragged his weary body back to the residential area.

These days, the people’s morale is scattered, and a negative mood has overtaken the whole team.

Just yesterday, unable to bear the living conditions, someone wildly shot at zombies from atop the wall, and then turned the gun on himself.

His death affected everyone else’s mood. Day by day, there seemed to be no end to the zombies, and despite being killed daily, they would still reappear in large numbers when it was someone’s shift.

Despair and fatigue were suffocating them.

It felt like a tightly strung string that could snap at any moment.

It just wasn’t clear when it would break.

Duan Mei saw Hai Chao come in, made a gesture with his eyes, signaling him to follow.

Curious, Hai Chao dragged his tired body and followed.

The two came to a corner outside the residential area.

Hai Chao, puzzled by Duan Mei’s serious demeanor, tightened his hat and said in the chilly exterior, ”If you have something to say, say it quickly. It’s too cold out here.”

Snow continued to fall darkly from the sky. Duan Mei cautiously glanced around and said in a low voice, ”Last time, outside the door, I heard your conversation with Gan Shang. I know you hold grudges.”

Hearing this, Hai Chao frowned and said, ”Not at all, I just didn’t perform well that day.”

Duan Mei sneered, pulled open the cloth covering his right eye, and said fiercely, ”Remember this eye? I fucking remember. When we were gathering supplies outside before, there were medicines that could treat my eye, but Gan Shang told me there weren’t!

My eye was ruined because of him!

Yes, he provided me a job before the apocalypse.

But this is the apocalypse; I’ve been fed up with him for a long time. If it weren’t for fearing his father, I would have killed him long ago.

Hai Chao, we’ve known each other for years, I’ll be straightforward with you. Do you want to join me?”

Hai Chao was silent. He wasn’t sure if Duan Mei was testing him on behalf of Gan Shang or genuinely harbored resentment and wanted Gan Shang gone.

Gan Shang’s subordinates weren’t just him and Duan Mei, there were several others.

Seeing Hai Chao’s hesitation, Duan Mei’s expression turned slightly unpleasant, murmuring, ”Do you really want to be Gan Shang’s dog forever? Heh, let me tell you, it’s not just me who thinks this.”

”Who else?”

Duan Mei, with a smug look, said, ”Baozi, Jiu Zhi, Gao Ru, and a few others. Old Sun could have joined too, but he had bad luck and died. How about it? Want to join?”

Hai Chao saw Duan Mei’s hand reach into his sleeve, sensing a hint of danger from that movement.

Talking about rebellion like this, since he’d brought it up, his only option was to join.

Agreeing for now seemed best; if it worked out, good—he too held some grievances against Gan Shang.

He replied with a laugh, ”Haha, look how nervous you are. I’m in; I’ve been annoyed by Gan Shang for a long time, and getting to take him down with you guys sounds great. But what about Gan Xiong, what if he finds out?”

Duan Mei relaxed significantly upon hearing the agreement, having decided just now that if Hai Chao hadn’t agreed, he’d have killed him.

If Hai Chao had refused and possibly told Gan Shang, it would have been over.

His hand, previously hidden in his sleeve, now relaxed, he chuckled and said, ”Old Hai, don’t worry. Honestly, whenever I saw Gan Shang pointing his finger and yelling at you, I felt it was unfair on your behalf. What have you gotten for all your hard work and loyalty? Heh.

As for Gan Xiong, emperor is far away from heaven; however long his arm is, can he really reach us? That’d be a joke. This is the apocalypse—once we deal with Gan Shang, we brothers can establish our own rule and be masters of our fate!”

Hai Chao agreed, saying, ”Sounds great, so when do we act?”

Duan Mei, with an inscrutable expression, replied, ”Don’t rush. We’ll find a suitable time, but it’ll likely be in the next few days. Then, just bring the security team you’ve been leading.”
