Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 760: Chapter 585: A Friendship Worth a Peck of Rice, An Enmity Over a Scoop of Rice

After the volcanic eruption, the temperature began a continual decline.

From the initial fifty or sixty degrees, it has now fallen to just five or six.

The acid rain and the damp cold weather made it feel even colder.

At the gate of the Big Camphor Tree Base, on top of the surrounding wall.

Li Yu watched as Li Tie and the others were still dazedly standing there.

He shouted at them, ”Stop daydreaming, head back to the duty room.”

Then he left them to their own devices. He understood that they had to get through this on their own; more words from him would not mean much.

Descending from the wall, Li Yu headed straight for the Second Outer City.

On the way, he encountered Uncle and a few others. Seeing Li Yu heading towards the Second Outer City, Uncle couldn’t help but ask, ”Li Yu, you’re heading to the Second Outer City, is there something else you need to take care of?”

Li Yu glanced at Dapao next to Uncle and after thinking about it, he replied, ”Hmm, Uncle, did you show them the surveillance footage?”

”Yes, they’ve all seen it, there shouldn’t be any problems now,” Uncle heaved a sigh.

Li Yu’s eyes flickered with contemplation, tightening the hood of his raincoat.

He said to Uncle and the others, ”It’s not over yet. Perfect, you all come with me.”

”What is this?”

Li Yu gestured for everyone to gather by the gate to the Second Outer City, where a wall could block the rain.

They reached the gate of the Second Outer City, the wall above blocking the acid rain.

Li Yu took down his rain hood and said to Uncle, ”Those people we dragged out just now, we need to figure out whether they were in cahoots. I’ve already ordered their execution. If they have close companions left, we need to mark them to anticipate any emotional reactions they may have.”

”All, all executed?” Uncle looked at Li Yu in horror and asked.

”Executed,” Li Yu answered directly, without hesitating.

Uncle felt something choking his chest, tight and uncomfortable.

For a moment, he didn’t know what to say.

Silence.

Li Yu did not concern himself with what Uncle was thinking at the moment and continued, ”Later, when we go to the Second Outer City, have Xiao Hu and the others investigate whether those who responded to the emergency earlier were together. If not, mark those who were familiar with each other.”

Suddenly, Uncle asked in surprise, ”Are you suspecting that the others might have issues too?”

Li Yu shook his head and said, ”Not suspecting, just being cautious. If they were all together, it’s even better; it means they already had such intentions. If they are fragmented, I don’t plan on taking any action now, just making a marker.”

”Alas, I hope you’re right,” Uncle said mournfully.

Following that, they had Second Uncle open the gate at the wall.

They all headed towards the Residential Building in the Second Outer City.

In the hall, there had been a lot of discussion and chaos because of recent events.

When Li Yu and his party walked into the hall, it quieted down instantly.

Their gazes towards Li Yu held a certain reverence, as those who were taken away had not yet been brought back; it was very possible they had been...

Fear took hold and spread.

Li Yu swept his gaze across everyone in the hall and said lightly, ”You should all be aware of the rules of the Big Camphor Tree Base.

I never act without reason. You’ve all seen the video of Bai Tao and the others, right?”

The Extra Staff and Cooperative Personnel in the hall responded:

”Director Li, we’ve all seen it. That Bai Tao really deserved to die, committing such acts and still not owning up.”

”Yes, indeed, there’s no wronging them. They even tried to stir up emotions just now, which was a huge mistake.”

...

Before long, everyone was criticizing Bai Tao and his group. Even those who had agreed with Bai Tao felt this was deserved.

Li Yu nodded slightly and continued to speak:

”During this time, you’ve been staying in your rooms, dodging Zombies and avoiding acid rain, but ask our duty personnel how hard they’ve worked.”

The subject changed as Li Yu went on to say: ”The acid rain has been falling for many days now. Some of you may have stored enough food and still have it, but others haven’t stored much and now food is getting scarce.

You all have made some contributions to the base to varying degrees. Here’s what we’ll do.

You can’t go out in this acid rain, so we will provide some food for you first. Once the rain is over, you can repay us with equivalent materials.”

The act of executing people had been a stick.

Now, promising to give food on credit was offering a carrot.

When the crowd heard of such good fortune, they suddenly expressed great gratitude.

Among them, indeed some were nearly out of provisions.

But the Big Camphor Tree had no obligation to give them food; it owed nothing.

The hall was noisy with thanks to Li Yu.

Li Yu raised his hand, signaling everyone to calm down.

”In all things, there must be rules. Let’s do it according to contribution ratios; higher contribution scores mean you can get credit for more food, up to a maximum of three pounds per person.”

Three pounds of food was really not much.

But for those who truly had no food left, it was already a lot.

This was life-saving food.

If meant to keep from starvation, it would be enough to last a month.

Li Yu continued:

”Credits will be lent based on three levels. Those at the lowest level can get a pound on credit first, and so on. Remember, this isn’t a gift to you. There are no free lunches in this world. The amount you owe now, you’ll have to repay later with equivalent amounts of materials.”
