Chapter 754: Chapter 583: I Don’t Need to Explain My Actions to You! (Three in One, 6300 Words Mega Chapter)_2

He blurted out, ”That’s right, Zuo Ruxue and her group had issues with us before, and now they are just trying to smear our reputation. They are slandering us...”

”Director Li, I understand that we are simply cooperative personnel who joined the Big Camphor Tree Base after Zuo Ruxue and her group.

But that doesn’t mean you can favor them over us. It can’t be that whatever they say goes. That’s just too biased.”

Another man beside him also spoke up, ”Yeah, why is it that their small group of seven or eight people get a suite, while all of us grown men are crammed into one room? It’s unbearable and so unfair.”

As soon as these words were spoken, an onlooker who sympathized with the sentiment spoke up as well:

”That’s true. Since we all came in together, resources should be distributed evenly. Not to mention anything else, at least the rooms need to be properly apportioned. The number of people in each room should be balanced according to the room’s size.”

Li Yu heard him speaking and turned to whisper to Ding Jiu beside him, ”Make a note of the people who are speaking out.”

Ding Jiu’s eyes turned sharp, and through Li Yu’s remark, it seemed he already knew what would become of those people.

Li Yu, with a smile on his face, said to them, ”Hmm, don’t worry, rest assured that cooperating with the Big Camphor Tree Base, we will never treat you unfairly. We act according to the rules. That won’t change.

Also, we won’t wrong a good person, nor will we let a bad one off the hook. Bai Tao, regarding the issue with you and Zuo Ruxue, don’t worry, I won’t side with Zuo Ruxue and her group just because you’re cooperative personnel.”

Seemingly reassured by Li Yu’s friendly demeanor, Bai Tao relaxed a bit and said, ”That’s good to hear. Director Li is fair, I’m just afraid that some people might take advantage of their status to cause trouble and disrupt our unity.”

Zuo Ruxue, witnessing Li Yu’s demeanor, looked at him in disbelief, with a heart full of bitterness.

Pointing at Bu Gu’s neck, she furiously said to Bai Tao, ”This is the evidence, the evidence that you were trying to murder and silence us! When we found Bu Gu, he was right at your doorstep!”

Bai Tao replied disdainfully, ”For all we know, it could be a trap you staged yourself. You might have been the one to act, trying to gain sympathy by putting the blame on us.”

”You, you, we, we wouldn’t do such a thing!”

Hearing Zuo Ruxue speak in this way, Bai Tao opened his arms and said, ”Who knows? Do you have evidence? Can you prove it wasn’t you trying to frame us deliberately, creating this situation to then pick a fight with us?”

Evidence, again with evidence!

Zuo Ruxue was close to exploding with frustration.

Xiao Hu and the others also looked displeased. Seeing the situation was unfavorable for Zuo Ruxue, they spoke up to Li Yu, ”Director Li, Zuo Ruxue and her group aren’t like that, and they hardly ever leave their rooms. It’s impossible that they’d do such a thing.”

Bai Tao mocked, ”Who knows? Maybe this is a conspiracy by you Extra Staff, specifically targeting us Cooperative Personnel.”

With these words, the expressions of the onlookers varied.

Now, within the Residential Building, with Extra Staff overseeing Cooperative Personnel, small frictions were inevitable in such crowded conditions.

Bai Tao’s words directly created class antagonism.

He pitted Cooperative Personnel against Extra Staff.

Hearing this, Li Yu’s eyes shone with a colder glint. He was not averse to saving lives, but nor did he mind taking them.

The establishment of the base was due to his great effort, and the reason he maintained such tight control, firmly holding the power within the base, was to avoid his hard work being exploited by others.

In this post-apocalyptic world, human nature was the most unpredictable and the most terrifying.

Some ignorant people, used as pawns by others, blindly clamored for fairness, for rights, for equal distribution.

In that case, Li Yu did not mind showing them the door.

Some leaders might be bound by morality, wary of the cries of many Survivors.

But for Li Yu, that was not the case.

He didn’t establish the base to save the world—he wasn’t so noble.

Nor did he want to save a majority of Survivors who were unrelated to him, providing them with better conditions at the expense of his own life or that of his loved ones, just to be appreciated by the majority.

That was not what he wanted.

At this moment,

Three or four onlookers, seemingly swayed by Bai Tao’s words, began to speak out.

”Yeah, these Extra Staff members receive food rations every month, but we don’t get any! That’s just so unfair!”

”Right, I’ve had enough of them, wielding power like they own it, controlling us, ha!”

”Unfair, unfair! Unfair!”

...

Seven or eight people chimed in to support the cause.

Among them, the vast majority of Extra Staff remained quiet, not saying a word.

While some Cooperative Personnel looked on coldly, as if they were watching dead men, at Bai Tao and his group.

Seeing that there were already seven or eight people on the side of Cooperative Personnel supporting him, a trace of a smile that was difficult for others to see flashed across Bai Tao’s eyes.

He took the opportunity to say to Li Yu, ”Director Li, look, the eyes of the people are clear, their voices are the fairest.

I hold the utmost respect for you, you always handle things with fairness and justice. During these times, you’ve allowed us to take shelter here, and we are very grateful to you for it. In this world, there are hardly any people as selfless as you.”
