Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Perhaps it was the lightning nearby that attracted some zombies.

Li Yu watched as Zhou and his team were vigorously installing the gate and said to the people around him, ”We must not allow a single zombie to enter the Outer City, Zhou and the others are still installing the gate below.”

Qin also arrived, he put down the crossbow in his hands and said to Li Yu, ”Director Li, can I use a gun? I brought a silencer. The crossbow is too slow.”

Li Yu glanced at Qin and said, ”Okay, do whatever works best.”

Then he let him go to the duty room to get a gun.

Everyone was desperately resisting the zombies running over from the woods.

The zombies were no different from those they had encountered before.

But now, Li Yu and his team were more tense than before, as it didn’t matter if zombies came in the past with the walls blocking them.

However, now they definitely couldn’t let the zombies get into the Outer City because if they do, Zhou and his team would be in danger.

Bang bang bang bang—

On the wall of the Second Outer City, they squatted on the unfinished wall, constantly dealing heavy blows to the zombies.

They were lucky that the temperature was quite high yesterday, reaching 30 degrees outside, and since construction ended yesterday evening until now, over 12 hours had passed.

The cement mortar on the wall had already dried.

They kept firing guns, killing the advancing zombies.

The rain grew heavier and heavier.

Due to the rush, they hadn’t brought raincoats.

And so, they got completely soaked.

The wall of the Second Outer City was still not fully constructed, so naturally, there were no safety barriers in place.

The height of about ten meters, with no barriers, was somewhat frightening to look down from.

Moreover, they had to keep shooting from up there, blocking the zombies from coming in.

Half an hour later.

Thud!

The large iron gate was finally installed, He Chao below tried to open it a bit.

Beep—

The large iron gate was slowly opened.

Then it was immediately tested again and closed.

It operated normally.

After closing the large iron gate, everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Li Yu relaxed as well, then came down from the wall and walked to the front of the large iron gate.

He heavily swung his gun to strike the large iron gate.

Thud!

A muffled sound echoed.

It sounded very sturdy.

Immediately after, Li Yu said to Ding Jiu, ”Can construction continue in the rain?”

Ding Jiu stretched out his hand, felt the rain, and after a moment of contemplation said, ”I suggest not to, as it’s the rainy season now. If we build walls during the rainy season, we must ensure proper closure. With zombies outside, to secure proper closure work must be done outside the wall too, which is too risky. In short, we need the wall surface to dry as quickly as possible. Luckily it was warm yesterday, otherwise the part constructed yesterday could have been affected by the rainy season, causing the hardness of the wall surface to decline.”

Hearing this conclusion, Li Yu was silent for a moment.

Then he said, ”What about not doing large-scale construction? Not building upwards anymore, just constructing some railings on the edge, and ensuring proper waterproofing, would that be possible?”

Ding Jiu said, ”We can try, the rain isn’t too heavy right now, but with the current weather, it might take three to four days to dry, and the newly constructed railings would also have to avoid getting wet.”

Li Yu nodded and said, ”Then let’s do that for now, no more building up for today, just get the fence sorted.”

Ding Jiu nodded and agreed.

Just as Li Yu was about to leave, remembering that there were many zombies outside, he said, ”Have the construction workers tie a rope around their waists to prevent accidentally falling off during work.”

Ding Jiu replied, ”Alright, I will make sure everyone is careful.”

Li Yu was then reassured.

Seeing He Chao, he also said, ”Tell the brothers on duty outside to come back quickly. While it’s not raining too hard and there aren’t too many zombies outside, once the rain gets heavy, they won’t be able to make it back.”

Additionally, you need to prepare well for protection work. The defense of the Second Outer City is all up to you.”

He Chao nodded quickly, promising to handle everything.

After taking care of all this, Li Yu finally returned to the main gate’s duty room from the Second Outer City.

Now that the wall has connected everything, they can simply walk over it to go wherever they need.

The main gate’s duty room was the most spacious, occupying dozens of square meters.

Inside, it was filled with guns, ammunition, and Light Machine Guns.

Li Yu sat in the duty room for a while, watching the scenes on the screens, all within the vicinity of the wall and outside of the base from the security cameras.

In the footage, a fine rain blurred the view, with some zombies wandering in the rain.

Some zombies were looking up, swallowing the rainwater, others were moving numbly.

But in this rain, all the hidden zombies had come out.

As if in the rain, they were the true masters of this planet.

Inside the base, the crops that had just been planted were also devouring the precious rainwater, growing vigorously.

After sitting in the duty room for a while, Li Yu went to the cell where the refined man, Ma Di, was being held.

Outside the cell, Li Haoran was listlessly watching the rain fall from the sky.

Seeing Li Yu approaching, Li Haoran quickly stood up from his stool and said to Li Yu, ”Big brother.”

Li Yu nodded, looking at Li Haoran and asked, ”How is that man doing inside?”

Li Haoran replied, ”He’s been quiet all along. Eat when given food, and doesn’t make a fuss when not. He doesn’t peep a word and doesn’t answer any questions.”

Li Yu thought for a moment, then opened the door to the cell and walked in.

The room was somewhat dark.

Click!

Li Yu turned on a white fluorescent light.

Ma Di was sitting on a stool, his feet shackled with iron chains and his hands bound with silver handcuffs.

Now, as Li Yu turned on the light, Ma Di stretched out his hands to block the brightness in front of him.

Li Yu pulled a stool over and sat in front of the man.

The stool’s backrest was in the front, Li Yu placed his hands on the backrest, straddling the stool in reverse.

He quietly observed the man.

The man also heard someone entering, but didn’t rush to open his eyes to see who it was. Instead, he leisurely waited for his eyes to adjust to the light before slowly lowering his hands.

Ma Di saw it was Li Yu, his pupils contracted slightly, and the panic in his eyes flashed by.

Li Yu just sat in front of him, not saying a word, just watching him.

”Do you know the connection between rain and zombies getting stronger?” Suddenly, Li Yu asked out of the blue.

”Raining?” Ma Di replied.

Then he perked up his ears, listening intently.

Pitter-patter

Raindrops fell on the eaves, and outside the room, water from the eaves splattered on the steps.

”It’s raining,” Li Yu said patiently.

”The formation of zombies is due to a meteorite from outer space. The rain falling from the sky surely contains elements we haven’t studied yet, causing these zombies to change.”

”Elements that haven’t been studied?” Li Yu inquired.

”That’s right. Previously, I was actually researching the difference between rainwater and groundwater at that chemical plant. Apart from the apparent elements and some normal trace mineral elements found underground, I didn’t discover any other differences.”

Li Yu asked further, ”Then why did green zombies appear, what have you done?”

After thinking for a while, numerous thoughts flashed through Ma Di’s mind, and he started speaking, ”Green zombies, that’s because the pH level of the water was too high, seriously depleting carbon dioxide, and beneficial algae couldn’t thrive.

But that’s just the superficial reason for turning green, a manifest feature. It’s not necessarily connected to zombies getting stronger.

The experiments I conducted had nothing to do with this.

In the chemical plant, there was a chemical waste that had been neglected for too long. It broke down over time and then flowed into the wastewater treatment pool.

Later, I examined the wastewater discharged from the plant, comparing it with the elements of the rainwater and microorganisms, and found no pattern at all.

There were absolutely no clues. I researched for a long time and couldn’t find any connection between them.

Completely meaningless, no discoveries were made. I conducted many experiments and found no pattern whatsoever...”

Li Yu listened seriously and said, ”So when we found you, you had broken down?”

Ma Di nodded and said, ”Yes.”
