After summarizing everyone’s strengths, Li Yu felt great. Indeed, with more people, talents could always be discovered.

He also lamented that Jiefang City had not properly cherished these talents in the past, wasting their abilities.

The most important task at the moment was to build the Outer City, and the first step in building the Outer City was to construct a sturdy outer wall.

So on this day, Li Yu made the overall arrangements.

”He Chao, your task is to lead a team to collect limestone, clay, rebar...”

”Ding Jiu, your job is to work with the workers and Deng Ben to process the limestone brought back by He Chao into cement. Once it’s done, you can work with the architects to start constructing the wall.”

”Old Lü, you take people to ensure He Chao’s safety, making sure everyone is safe while out collecting materials.”

”Uncle Qin, please take people to clear the area in the East that needs to be built into the Outer City of trees and shrubs. Also, protect Ding Jiu and his team while they are making cement.”

.....

Li Yu systematically assigned tasks to everyone.

Thinking of something, it’s now May, the rainy season. Although it hasn’t rained these days, he knew that it wouldn’t be long before it would rain again. So, there was urgency, they needed to race against time and hurry.

He Bing, seeing that most of his companions had their tasks while he hadn’t received his assignment yet, eagerly awaited Li Yu’s arrangements.

Li Yu looked at He Bing and said, ”The idea you proposed last time, about setting up Choppers on the walls, I think it’s a good idea. You can go ahead and make this device, and I’ll see the effect.”

Hearing this, He Bing was exhilarated, a joy of being recognized. An automatically rotating Chopper around the wall felt exhilarating just thinking about it.

So he said, ”Alright.”

Li Yu looked at Li Hang and told He Bing, ”If you need anything, ask him. And Old Zhou, who was a machine builder before, you might want to talk to him.”

He Bing saw Old Zhou and nodded, saying, ”OK, Brother Yu, I’ll consult with Old Zhou.”

Li Yu nodded and then left.

Watching as everyone received their tasks and drove out of the Big Camphor Tree Base, each busy with their tasks.

Li Yu then found An Ya and introduced her to a person, who was with Uncle Qin and had previous experience as a drainage engineer, known for his unique insights in drainage.

In a post-apocalyptic world, where heavy rains are frequent, building a stable base certainly requires a sound drainage system. Otherwise, it could easily get submerged.

Big Camphor Tree Base, although naturally situated on high ground with sufficient altitude, has a Mountain Pond spanning almost twenty meters deep and covering five to six acres, holding a considerable amount of water.

When the reservoir is full, reaching the warning line, it holds nearly nine acres of water.

In the past, drainage within the base mainly served to protect crops, prevent them from being submerged due to heavy rain, leading to root rot and ultimately death.

Now with a drainage engineer on board, it was imperative to enhance the drainage system within the base.

”An Ya, this is Xu Zhen, who has joined us newly. He was a drainage engineer. You two will need to further refine the base’s drainage system,” Li Yu introduced.

An Ya extended her somewhat dark hand and shook hands with Xu Zhen.

Due to frequent sun exposure, her skin had darkened beyond a wheatish complexion.

Xu Zhen promptly extended his hand and shook hands with An Ya.

After exchanging a few pleasantries.

Li Yu said to the two, ”Alright, the problem of drainage in the base is up to you two to solve. I hope you can ensure that no matter how heavy the rain, the crops won’t drown, and during drought, consider irrigation needs in advance.

Also, there are still some flaws in the base’s drainage system. Previously, a zombie emerged from a drainage outlet but couldn’t enter because the drainage well was high enough. This problem needs your attention.”

Hearing Li Yu’s arrangement, both assured they could complete the task.

After arranging everything, Li Yu returned to the Observation Tower above the wall.

Watching the busy figures, he felt a bit sentimental. When the base was first constructed and the apocalypse had just erupted, he was the one leading from the front.

Whether it was dealing with a bullet crisis or a shortage of photovoltaic solar components, he was the leader solving these issues.

But now, with the base’s population growing, some tasks needed to be delegated to others, which proved to be more efficient when done together.

Li Yu’s presence in the base stabilized the people’s morale.

”Awoo, awoo, awoo~” A few puppies appeared under Li Yu’s feet.

These puppies were picked up half a year ago on the way back from dealing with people from Safe City.

Now, half a year later, these three puppies had grown rapidly, from being small enough to lift with one hand to almost 70 cm tall, looking quite imposing.
