Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 559: Chapter 501: Pig os: Kill me, liven up the atmosphere for everyone!_2

Once the introductions were all done, Li Yu simply went ahead and shared the plans for the base’s expansion: ”Now that we have more people, the base must be expanded. There are plans to build an Outer City to the east of the current East Gate.”

Everyone voiced their agreement, showing their approval.

Seeing so many people gathered here in high spirits, Li Yu thought that it had been a long time since the base had held any celebratory events.

So, he approached Li Yuan to inquire about the current storage situation of the warehouse.

Last year’s harvest of grains, vegetables, and some of the bred animals were all in good condition.

Just the pigs alone, after two sows had given birth, now had over thirty adult pigs and more than fifty piglets.

So, Li Yu announced: ”To welcome everyone to the Big Camphor Tree Base, I declare that we will have a celebration banquet tonight! Slaughter a pig! Eat meat! Drink alcohol!”

Then, in front of everyone, Li Yu had Zhou Weiguo, who had experience in slaughtering pigs, to kill a male pig for the celebration.

This male pig, weighing over 300 pounds, meant that even if distributed evenly, each person could enjoy more than one pound of meat - enough for everyone to feast on.

Some potatoes had been planted before, but since everyone was more accustomed to eating rice, the potatoes weren’t consumed much. Nonetheless, even if potatoes are stored in a freezer, they can only last for a few months at most, so many leftovers were used for making alcohol.

Now, old alcohol stocks in the base were running low, and people were reluctant to use rice for distillation, so many potatoes were used for making alcohol, vinegar, and even for obtaining higher purity alcohol.

In fact, Maozi’s vodka is made from potatoes.

There were also people in the base who knew how to distill alcohol, and the techniques for brewing vodka-like spirits were not complex, so quite a lot of distilled spirits were produced.

All together, there were two tons, or 4000 pounds, of strong distilled alcohol.

The spirits were around 56 proof, although there were some as high as over 90 proof, but these were almost the same as pure alcohol.

Luo, Qin, Zhou, He Chao, He Bing, and others were overjoyed to hear this, their faces flushed with excitement.

Especially Zhou, who enjoyed his drink; upon hearing that there would be an unlimited supply of alcohol, his wrinkled old face was all smiles.

After announcing all this, Li Yu returned to the base. Tonight the Inner City and Outer City would gather together in the Outer City for joyous celebrations.

However, to ensure the base operated normally, Li Yu asked Second Uncle to arrange the duty roster for tonight, with at least twenty people remaining absolutely sober.

Second Uncle rarely drank, and along with a few others from Wang Cheng who also drank little, the young people in the base like Li Haoran, Li Haoxian, Song Qi, and Xiao Ya who were in their teens or twenties, didn’t have much taste for such high-proof alcohol.

So, they were assigned to be on duty tonight.

Out of these twenty people, Li Yu specifically armed ten fully equipped individuals to patrol the walls surrounding the Outer City, both to stay alert for zombies and external enemies and to keep watch over the celebrations in the Outer City to prevent accidents.

During the celebrations, everyone was thrilled. It meant more delicious food and drinks.

This gathering meant not just a bonding activity for Li Yu but also a test.

Luo, Qin, and others were typically unarmed during non-mission periods, so even if they got drunk, they wouldn’t be able to cause any trouble.

Weapon control in the base was very strict.

Under such an atmosphere, people began bustling with activities.

The Outer City spanned thirty mu of land. Aside from the twenty mu designated for farming, there was another ten mu left.

Under Li Yu’s arrangements, Zhou Weiguo led He Chao and Xiao Ya to fetch the selected pig.

”Huff huff huff–”

The boar seemed to realize it was about to be slaughtered, wailing continuously along the way.

Children excitedly ran back and forth along the route, watching the pig.

Passing through Weng City and into the Outer City, the crowd gathered around to watch the pig, finding the plump and white creature increasingly adorable.

Even more so because of the pig’s contribution, tears of gratitude welled in their eyes.

It had been far too long since they last had meat.

In the center of the Outer City, there’s a vacant space with two ping-pong tables, currently being used as a platform for pig slaughtering.

He Chao, with a few pieces of wood and rope, hoisted the pig up, while his daughter Xiao Ya, watching from the side, excitedly said: ”Daddy is so awesome.”

Then she bragged to her little friends nearby: ”That’s my dad.”

Seeing his daughter like this, He Chao’s heart almost melted. Ever since joining the base, his daughter had become more and more lively. Seeing her like this, He Chao felt that everything he did was worthwhile.

Beside Xiao Ya, Li Suxin, with little jumps, said: ”Slaughtering a piggy, I want to eat braised pork!”

Her chubby little mouth dripping with drool.

Seeing her like this, Li Yu pulled Li Hang over and then used Li Hang’s clothes to wipe Suxin’s mouth.

Then, lifting Suxin up, he smiled warmly and said: ”Okay, in a while Auntie Zhou will make you some braised pork.”

Holding Suxin, Li Yu looked very approachable as he walked over to the subordinates He Chao had brought along.

Among them were some who had wives and children, and also some young girls.

Right now, seeing the tender and pink Li Suxin, they all took a liking to her and came over to greet her.

Li Yu saw there were five women with children among them and thought for a moment before telling them: ”You were among the earliest to join the Outer City. Even though your Contribution Value hasn’t reached the mark yet, I’ve built a school in the Inner City specifically for teaching the children. Despite the apocalypse, our children still need some education.

How about this, I’ll make an exception, from now on these children can come and study with food provided. They will be treated the same as the children in the base.”

Hearing Li Yu say this, the families with children were so moved they were almost in tears, and one of the men even started weeping and was about to kneel to Li Yu.

Ever since his wife passed away, he had been taking care of his child on his own. Usually, he had to go out for missions and had no education himself, so his child’s education was his biggest worry.

Li Yu firmly pulled him up and said: ”Deng Ben, a man’s knees are filled with gold; do not kneel so easily.”

Hearing Li Yu accurately calling his name, the man was even more overwhelmed.

Li Yu smiled and said: ”Deng Ben, you did well last time at Luo Tianyan’s place.”

Then, turning to look at some people who had gathered around upon hearing the commotion, Li Yu called out each of their names: ”Ah Guang, Shunzi, Zhuzi... you all performed very well. Rest assured, no matter what happens, as long as the base remains, your children will be taken care of by the base!”

Hearing Li Yu personally make such a promise, everyone was touched with reddened eyes.

In the apocalypse, sometimes the fear isn’t about one’s own death, but the worry that those who depend on us won’t be cared for after we’re gone.

At this moment, Li Yu’s promises acted like a shot of confidence for them.

Today, many new people had arrived, and to be honest, as the first batch to come in, although they didn’t express it, they felt a little uncomfortable.

But now, with Li Yu’s actions right in front of them, they suddenly felt assured, thinking, how could Director Li forget about them?

Oh great Director Li...

Seeing their reaction, Li Yu laughed and said: ”Today’s weather is great, and I’m in a good mood. Let’s not get too emotional. Hahaha.”

At this moment, Li Yu radiated an aura of light, further solidifying their respect and recognition toward him.

If at this moment Li Yu told them to die, they wouldn’t hesitate at all.

A man willing to give you a chance, who remembers what you’ve done, willing to help your children, and affectionately tells you, ”Don’t worry about anything.”

It’s hard not to love such a person.

Holding Li Suxin, Li Yu then went over to Uncle Qin and his group. Seeing Uncle Qin, Li Yu prompted Li Suxin, ”Call him Uncle Qin.”

Li Suxin didn’t call out immediately. Instead, she wriggled free from Li Yu’s arms, respectfully bowed to Uncle Qin, and said softly and adorably, ”Hello Uncle Qin. My name is Li Suxin.”

Uncle Qin was delighted, chuckling, ”Good, good. Suxin is wonderful.” He then fumbled around in his pockets but didn’t manage to pull out anything.

Suddenly, he slapped his head, remembering that Zhou had something that children would probably like.

So he headed towards Zhou, who was standing there, drooling as he watched the transport of alcohol.
