Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 551: 551 confirmed

Huang Hongwei passed the children and hugged Kong Mengjie, ”Don’t be sad anymore, things are like this now, we just have to accept it, okay? Do the kids still go to school tomorrow?”

”It’s so chaotic now, the kids aren’t learning much at school anyway, so I’ll just teach them at home. Besides, I don’t have a job anymore.

Moreover, as a middle school graduate, can’t I teach a few kids?”

Kong Mengjie felt very sad. In the past, mentioning she was a middle school graduate was something she was proud of, but now it meant nothing.

”Alright, I feel more at ease with you teaching them at home.

Mengjie, I’m thinking of going out to see what work I can do. I am determined to support you three.”

”Alright, let’s think of a way. If we could go back to our hometown, life wouldn’t be so difficult.”

”We shouldn’t go back during winter; it’s not cold at home. If there’s no work, I can go to the mountains to chop wood. We’ll surely use up a lot of firewood this winter.”

The couple rambled on about arranging their future life.

Early the next morning, Jiang Xinyu still went to work, getting closer to the day of her freedom.

She was in a very good mood. At the morning meeting, the main agenda was selecting the workshop director. Since Huang Hongwei had resigned, it left a vacant position.

The competition for this position was very fierce. In the end, there was no decision.

Of the candidates competing for the position, Jiang Xinyu still had an impression of them, feeling they were all suitable.

She wondered to herself about her resignation. If management didn’t intervene, the competition should be even fiercer.

Back at the office, she noticed that Song Qingqing, who had come in with her, looked very displeased.

”Secretary Song, what’s wrong?”

”I’m pregnant, and this time the reaction is really strong.”

”You need to be careful then. Is there anything you feel like eating? Try to satisfy your cravings; eating for one actually benefits two.”

”I don’t even know what I want to eat. I just think meat should taste really good.”

”Can’t the supply and marketing cooperative offer something? Why don’t you call Sister She and ask? During early pregnancy, you need to be careful and stay in good spirits. How many months along are you now?”

”Almost three months now. I didn’t even notice. It was Zhou Zhaodong who asked me if I was pregnant because I hadn’t changed or washed in two months. That’s when I realized.”

Jiang Xinyu froze at Song Qingqing’s words. Hadn’t she changed or washed in two months either? Could she be pregnant too? Thinking back to that time in her new home, was it that Wei Kaiyun wasn’t careful?

Her hand subconsciously touched her belly. Was she really pregnant? Reflecting carefully on recent events, she was likely pregnant. Due to recent distress, she hadn’t noticed.

”Xinyu, what’s up?”

”Nothing much. Quickly call Sister She. If you need more ration coupons, I still have some.”

Song Qingqing dialed She Xiaoyun’s number, ”Sister She, it’s Song Qingqing. I wanted to ask if the supply and marketing cooperative is selling meat?

Okay, I got it. Save me two pounds, and I’ll let my partner come to find you tomorrow morning.

Thanks, Sister She, I’m just feeling a bit indulgent.”

Song Qingqing, with a questioning look, handed the phone to Jiang Xinyu, who laughed as she took it.

”Sister She, is there much meat tomorrow? I have thirty pounds of meat coupons.”

”I’ll save you ten pounds for tomorrow and ten pounds next week. By the time it’s December, there should be more supply. You can buy ten pounds then.”

”Alright, I’ll pick it up tomorrow morning.”

”Do you have time?”

”Yes, I’ll just take an hour off. There’s nothing much during the morning meeting, and arriving late isn’t a problem.

Also, can you get me more eggs? I’m not worried about having too many.”

”Getting you two pounds a day is stretching it.”

”No problem, I can visit you every day.”

Jiang Xinyu laughed and hung up the phone. She had made up her mind: since she had a child, she had to give birth, but she needed to expedite her resignation.

”Xinyu, do you have that many meat coupons?”

”I haven’t used them all year. I usually buy meat privately, but now I can’t, as someone’s monitoring me.”

”I was hoping to get more meat.”

”When there’s an opportunity, I’ll get ten pounds for you. The price has to be at least two-fifty; I’ve even bought it for three-fifty.”

”Thanks, even if it’s three-fifty, get me ten pounds. The New Year is almost here, just waiting to satisfy cravings.

Xinyu, how about suggesting to Mr. Qian that we distribute pork to everyone? Or the factory can buy pigs, and then everyone can pay for the meat, at least without coupons.”

”That could work. Once you write an application, submit it to Mr. Qian tomorrow. Everyone would likely agree, but dealing with that many pigs wouldn’t be easy?”

”True, if it doesn’t work, collect from different villages.”

”Not very feasible; leave the headache to Mr. Qian.”

Now that I’m so precious, I don’t want to bother with it.

At noon, Wang Ailing brought Jiang Xinyu two salted eggs, ones with just a hint of saltiness, and they were quite tasty.

”Sis, I can go to the supply and marketing cooperative every day to get eggs; I plan to preserve them.”

”Xinyu, I heard Kong Mengjie’s household registration settled on the street. Yesterday my mother-in-law saw Huang Hongwei being scolded by a group of women; they really gave him a hard time.”

”One must always be responsible for their own actions.”

”True, if he did it, he shouldn’t fear others talking.”

After work, Jiang Xinyu went straight to the supply and marketing cooperative, needing to prepare formula and gradually stock up.

Today, She Xiaoyun gave her five pounds of eggs, two bags of formula, and two bags of wheat milk powder.

”You’re spending money without blinking. Just in this short time, you’ve spent tens, my monthly salary.

Xinyu, you should save more; there are two children.”

”Yes, I will be frugal from now on,” Jiang Xinyu quickly replied with a smile, avoiding a lecture.

”You.”

When Jiang Xinyu got home, she put the eggs, formula, and wheat milk powder into her storage space. Then she started a fire to cook. She craved millet yam porridge, with red dates, peanuts, and raisins—it must be delicious.

After eating, she sat down to write letters to her two children. She had six days left before restrictions lifted. Packing up, riding a car, it would take about a month, so the letter would reach them before she did.

The next morning, she still had porridge for breakfast, then took a basket to the supply and marketing cooperative where She Xiaoyun saved ten pounds of spare ribs and two pounds of eggs for her.

After paying, she said goodbye and left.

Back home, she stored the goods before heading to work.

She wasn’t late; at the morning meeting, they finally chose a replacement for Huang Hongwei, who was Wu Weidong, the team leader of workshop five.

This guy is still young, just twenty-nine, and he looks sharp.

Everyone applauded to congratulate him, and he gave a speech, speaking passionately, which was quite stirring.
