Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 589: 589 interaction

The couple leaned against each other, cuddling and kissing. This is the kind of day Wei Kaiyun had always longed for. Honestly, he now felt grateful for what happened. Although he got injured and almost died, the result was being together with his wife and children.

”Wife, tomorrow is the twenty-ninth, do you need to go outside and see if there’s anything we need?”

”I don’t really know. Since it’s New Year, shouldn’t we prepare a gift for the village head?

Should we buy something or make it ourselves? How about I teach Sister-in-law Liu, let her make it, so the kids can also have a treat.”

”Sure, we’ll make it ourselves, but you shouldn’t do any work.”

”Where’s the need to be so delicate? Isn’t everyone supposed to do their part?”

”I can’t bear the thought of you working too hard. Since you married me, I haven’t let you enjoy life; instead, you’ve been worried every day with me. Now that I’m here, I definitely won’t let you or the kids suffer with me.”

”Why is your mouth so sweet today?” Jiang Xinyu teased Wei Kaiyun.

”Come and taste it, it’s even sweeter.”

Finally, Jiang Xinyu pushed Wei Kaiyun away, ”Go away, Feifei will be back soon.”

”I can’t wait until autumn to build the house. After digging the cellar, I’ll start building the house.” Wei Kaiyun lay to one side, panting heavily.

Jiang Xinyu smiled with her lips pursed, ”By then, my belly will be big, that’s not going to work either.” She laughed out loud.

”Wife, you’re not being fair. How can you bear to see me like this?” Wei Kaiyun pointed at himself.

”Why wouldn’t I bear it?”

”You’re so cruel. Little Three, you’re making Dad wait.” Wei Kaiyun touched his wife’s belly.

The child playfully moved a little. Wei Kaiyun’s eyes lit up, and he lifted his wife’s clothes, placing his ear on her belly, listening to the gurgling sounds inside.

”Wife, this must be a sweet daughter.”

”Sure, it’s a daughter.” Jiang Xinyu didn’t care whether the child inside was a boy or a girl. Everything was good, as they were her children, her treasures.

”Wife, do you think we should name our Little Three Fangfang? Fangfei. These are the names of my two daughters.”

”Alright, should we call her Jiang Fangfang? Doesn’t that sound better than Jiang Feifei?”

”I’ll think about it more. Anyway, my daughters are the most beautiful, kind-hearted, and wonderful girls in the world.”

Jiang Xinyu looked speechlessly at this smug man. Daughters are great, but when they get married, he’ll know what heartbreak feels like.

”Alright, you lie down, I’ll go ask Sister-in-law Liu to mix the dough, tomorrow we’ll steam bread and fry mahua. Such New Year gifts should be presentable.”

Only then did Wei Kaiyun let his wife go, wearing a smile as he watched her leave the room.

Sister-in-law Liu had already tidied up the main room. When she saw Jiang Xinyu come out, ”Xiao Jiang, what’s up?”

”Sister-in-law Liu, I need you to take on some work. I’m asking you to mix the dough, we’ll steam bread and fry mahua tomorrow.”

”Alright, what’s this kind of work?”

Jiang Xinyu brought out those large basins she had used a few days ago, preparing dough for two basins of bread, mixing the yeast in water and handing it to Sister-in-law Liu.

She also prepared some raisins and dried cranberries. It should taste particularly good.

She mixed a big basin of milk powder and sugar dough that could be used to fry sweet mahua.

She made one basin each of sweet and savory dough.

Finally, she had Sister-in-law Liu wash and grate four large carrots, add four eggs and one large scallion, salt, and five-spice powder. She mixed it into a batter with yeast water so that it would rise by tomorrow morning, when they could fry carrot fritters.

All the dough was put on the kang in Sister-in-law Liu’s room.

”Xiao Jiang, this used up a whole bag of flour.” Sister-in-law Liu was really surprised; this sure was extravagant with supplies.

”It’s fine, as long as it’s eaten, it’s not wasted.

If the batter for carrot fritters rises by tomorrow morning, we’ll start frying them then.”

When she returned to the room, Feifei was already lying in Wei Kaiyun’s bed, and the father-daughter duo was chatting and laughing quietly.

Actually, Jiang Feifei felt really embarrassed, but this dad just picked her up and brought her over.

”Mom, did Dad say we’ll fry mahua tomorrow? I want to eat those milk-flavored mahua.”

”I’ve already made the dough, if it rises, tomorrow morning you’ll also be able to eat carrot fritters.”

Wei Kaiyun held his daughter tightly. Watching the little girl get a bit anxious, he finally let her return to her own bed.

”Dad, next time warm up my bed for me.”

Wei Kaiyun laughed and nodded, ”Alright, tomorrow Dad will warm it up for you.”

The next day, Jiang Xinyu, worried about the carrot fritters, got up at six. After washing up, she went to Sister-in-law Liu’s room, lifted the cover and took a look. The dough had indeed risen.

”Xiao Jiang, why are you up so early?” Sister-in-law Liu had also gotten up.

”We’re going to fry fritters. As for the mahua, we’ll wait until after breakfast to make them.

Sister-in-law Liu, you should start the stove and make some corn mush.”

”Alright, I’ll get on it right away.”

The children had already washed up and were warming up outside in the yard, with Old Yang joining them this time.

He was very satisfied with the three little ones, once again feeling the urge to start a family. But why hadn’t his destined partner appeared yet?

Jiang Xinyu straightforwardly asked Sister-in-law Liu to pour most of a bucket of soybean oil into the pot.

”Xiao Jiang, if we fry like this, it’ll use up several kilograms of oil.”

Jiang Xinyu just smiled; she still thought, as long as it was eaten, it wasn’t a waste.

Jiang Xinyu sat on a small stool, helping with the fire. All the firewood had been bought by Old Yang, as he feared the three children would get cold, so he spent extra to buy more.

After washing her hands, she demonstrated to Sister-in-law Liu and then left it to her. Constantly crouching was uncomfortable.

Actually, she knew she could rely on help; if it were just her, no matter how uncomfortable she felt, she’d still find a way to get things done.

Jiang Xinyu went back inside and put on a headscarf; the grease and smoke were too heavy, and in this cold weather, washing her hair was too difficult.

This big basin of dough turned into a big basin and a little extra of carrot fritters.

The corn mush was ready too. Jiang Xinyu also prepared a mix of cabbage hearts and a radish. She didn’t like the kids eating pickles, as these quick-pickled veggies were not harmful to their health.

The children could already smell the aroma outside. ”Feifei, what did Mom make? It smells so delicious!”

”Fried carrot fritters,” Jiang Feifei said with a contented smile.

Today, the three were particularly fast at washing up; being able to eat such a meal in the morning made the adults happy too.

Wei Kaiyun noticed his wife was only drinking porridge, ”Xinyu, why aren’t you eating?”

”I’ve been standing by the stove for so long, I don’t have much appetite. You guys eat, I still need to fry the mahua later.”

”Xiao Jiang, you truly have a talent for cooking. A few days living with you and I’d surely gain weight.”

”It’s not as exaggerated as you say. Just let me know if there’s anything you want to eat.”

”I won’t be shy about it, though I love everything you make,” Old Yang said, talking while continuing to eat.
