Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 587: 587 Visit

After entering the house, Jiang Xinyu frowned slightly, ”Jing Chu, why is this house so cold? Is this where you girls live?”

Jing Chu nodded, ”Yes, because when it’s warm, there isn’t time to chop wood, so there’s no firewood to burn.”

Jiang Xinyu sighed, ”Jing Chu, you girls must be more careful and not ruin your health.”

The group of eleven educated youth included five girls whose eyes turned red; none of them wanted to suffer.

Jiang Xinyu smiled and pulled out a pack of White Rabbit candies from her bag, distributing them. Some took the candy and left tactfully, while others lingered.

Seeing this, one could tell their character.

”Miss, I have some things to discuss with Jing Chu and the others. Could you excuse us? Jing Chu, shall we go outside to talk?”

The girl blushed deeply, said something, and hurriedly left.

Jiang Xinyu held Lv Jingchu’s hand the whole time, ”How are you? It must be very hard.”

”Yes, Aunt Jiang, it’s too hard. I want to go home. I miss my Dad.”

Jiang Xinyu sighed, ”Jing Chu, you can’t go back now.”

”Then why were we brought here? We can’t eat enough or dress warm.”

Jiang Xinyu wasn’t pleased with her words but patiently explained to her.

”Jing Chu, your Dad sent you here out of necessity, to be honest, it was because you troubled Guodong. You don’t know, but after you left, all your Zhao family uncles and aunts died, and many families were like this; some girls were even harmed. Jing Chu, you’re beautiful, your Dad was worried about you, so he sent you to this remote place to protect you.”

Now Lv Jingchu’s face turned pale with real fear. They knew about the Zhao couple’s passing when Dad wrote to Zhao Xiaoli. But they didn’t expect it to be so serious?

”Guodong, you’re the older brother; you must take good care of Jing Chu.” Jiang Xinyu realized Lv Jingchu had heard and understood. As long as she didn’t resent Lv Beiguang, it was fine. Being a father is really not easy.

”Aunt Jiang, don’t worry, I definitely will.”

Jiang Xinyu took two sausages out of her bag and handed them to the two of them.

”Eat, they’re not too cold now and can satisfy cravings.”

Both took them and finished eating in a few bites.

Jiang Xinyu handed them each a piece of bread.

After eating, they both felt comfortable.

”Aunt Jiang, when did you get here?” Guodong asked with a smile.

”I’ve been here for two weeks because I wasn’t in good health, so I waited for Master Yang’s car to come together. I also brought you malted milk powder, keep it for yourself. Nowadays even money can’t buy it.”

Both nodded. After living here for half a year, what would they not know?

”And you should keep the candy; though the meat must be shared, since you’re all living together, you should be more united. As for snacks and sausages, keep them for yourself.”

Lv Jingchu was a little unwilling, but she knew it had to be this way, so she kept everything except the large piece of meat.

”It’s late; I will come to see you again when there’s a chance. It took two hours to get here, and it’s dangerous to return too late.”

”Aunt Jiang, when are you leaving here?”

”Me? I don’t know yet; maybe leave for a few years. Feifei and Shi Jing are here, so I’ll stay with them. You two shouldn’t leave your textbooks; didn’t I bring you the high school books? Now that you have nothing to do, don’t follow others blindly. You two should invite Zhao Xiaoli to study together. Guodong, you’re the older brother; you should lead and supervise your sister.”

Both nodded. But Lv Jingchu frowned, ”Aunt Jiang, it’s too cold in the house, it’s hard to concentrate on studying.”

”Jing Chu, I tell you, if you study diligently now, there will be opportunities for exams in the future; you must seize them to escape from here. Think carefully, do you want to stay here, marry, and settle down for a lifetime? Or do you want to go home or to a bigger city? Jing Chu, it’s all up to you, nobody else can help.”

”Aunt Jiang, can we go with you?”

”Sorry, I really can’t do that. You haven’t visited the small village where I stay; it’s much worse than here. I’ll give you the address; when there’s a chance, go have a look; it’s even harder than here.”

Guodong chuckled helplessly, ”Aunt Jiang, we’ll visit you during the New Year.”

”Alright, but if the roads are bad, wait until it’s warm next year. I’m afraid the roads are dangerous.”

Guodong nodded, ”I know; we’ll see how it goes.”

After seeing off Jiang Xinyu and her family, Lv Jingchu sat on the kang, sulking, ”Obviously doesn’t want us to disturb.”

”Lv Jingchu, look at yourself now. Why should anyone help you? Visiting you and bringing food is already good; can you get these things? Insatiable greed will lead to downfall; don’t change, you’re really becoming ugly.” Lv Guodong was really angry.

”Brother, why do you say that to me?”

”Don’t like what you’re hearing? But that’s what you’re like now. People aren’t obligated to help you; you should know, among us who came here as educated youth, we’re relatively better. Some don’t even have a place to stay. What do you want? If you continue like this, I won’t care about you anymore. Whatever you become, you’ll have to bear it yourself.”

”Brother.” Lv Jingchu cried out.

”There’s no need to cry; since coming here, you haven’t realized how ugly you’ve become. You take everyone who treats you well for granted, but nobody owes you anything.”

Lv Jingchu lowered her head. She actually knew she’d changed, but life here was too hard. If she didn’t vent, she wouldn’t have the courage to live.

”Stop relying on others for everything. Aunt Jiang is right, only you can determine your future. From now on, I’ll study and learn. If you’re unwilling, I won’t force you, but remember, if I leave and you’re still here, I won’t wait for you.”

Lv Guodong finished speaking and left. His sister had changed beyond recognition; this was unacceptable, she would regret it in the future.

Lv Jingchu sat dazed on the kang, realizing she couldn’t continue being willful. She certainly didn’t want to stay here and now longed to go home.

Once she figured it out, she didn’t feel so blocked. She went out to find Zhao Xiaoli and her brother to study together.

She still believed in Jiang Xinyu’s words, so she definitely wouldn’t abandon her textbooks. She was convinced she’d surely escape here.
