Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 554: 554 became

”Hehe, I also feel it’s a pity, but there’s no other way. After being separated from the kids, I lost interest in everything and constantly felt uneasy.

Rather than enduring the pain of us being apart, it’s better for me to live with them.

When the kids grow up, I can always come back to work.”

”I’m just afraid there won’t be such a good opportunity in the future.”

”Well, let’s talk about it when the time comes. Who knows what will happen?”

”Alright, I’ll stop talking about it. Let’s have a meal together tomorrow; they probably don’t know about it yet, right?”

”Hmm, let’s go to a restaurant tomorrow night. I still have some braised pig offal at home; let’s bring it along.”

”Okay, will you inform them, or should I?”

”I’ll do it. Let’s take these few days to gather with everyone; I’m not sure when I’ll be back.”

”You must write to us when you leave, or better yet, call us.

It’s funny, most people are trying so hard to move to the city, and here you are wanting to live in the countryside.”

”Good sister, please don’t complain about me.”

She bought two more bags of milk powder, two bags of malted milk, and five pounds of eggs before heading home.

Now it’s time to gather all the things at home. I should take everything; leaving them at home is not an option; since I have space, taking them with me is feasible.

First, I packed all the clothes and bedding, but left two sets of luggage behind.

Then, I put away Wei Kaiyun’s bicycle; I still need to use it myself.

All the supplies were packed up. These were just the items in the cabinets, so it wasn’t noticeable from the outside.

The next day, she called Hao Shichao. ”Dinner at the restaurant tonight.”

”Alright, what’s the celebration?”

”My resignation has been approved. It won’t be long until I go to the Northeast to join my children; let’s get together while we can.”

”Are you really leaving?”

”Yes, I’m really leaving.”

”Okay, we’ll talk tonight.”

She also called several others, asking Lv Beiguang to prepare some drinks. The last call was to Ding Shihong.

”Brother Ding, tonight we’ll gather for a meal. I’m bringing a set of braised pig offal, but there’s no liver.”

”Alright, I’ll handle the rest. I have two big carp today, and I’ll save one for you.”

”Thanks, Brother Ding.”

”No need to be formal.”

In the afternoon, Jiang Xinyu stayed at the finance department where she was now checking accounts daily, so that when the new Vice Factory Director arrived, it wouldn’t take her extra time to go over the books.

The security department held daily meetings to report the situation.

Pan Yuanliang already knew about Jiang Xinyu’s resignation, but not many were aware of this.

”Vice Factory Director Jiang, are you really resigning?”

”Hehe, is there any doubt about it?”

”What a shame. If it were me, I wouldn’t give up this job.”

”Sigh, I’m just a mother, and being away from my kids is too hard. That’s why I chose to be with them.”

After work, she went home directly, took out all the offal, put it in a big bowl, covered it with a white cloth, tied it to the backseat of her bicycle, and rode to the restaurant.

She arrived earlier than the others. ”Sister, you’re here so early?”

”I live close by. Brother Ding, my resignation has been approved. I have about eight days before I leave.”

”You’re going to join your kids?”

”Yes, I really can’t stop worrying about them.”

”Alright, putting the kids first is the right thing to do.” Ding Shihong understood this well, which was why he had been the restaurant manager for so many years — he was capable, decisive, and well-connected.

She Xiaoyun was the second to arrive, and soon everyone else trickled in. Lv Beiguang brought five bottles of baijiu.

The food was served quickly. All the offal needed was to be cut up.

Finally, there was a plate of fried peanuts and a stewed big carp.

Everyone sat around, chatting non-stop and asking about Jiang Xinyu’s situation, wondering if she’d regret it.

”No regrets. You win some, you lose some. I did it for the kids; there’s nothing to regret.”

”Xinyu, you really are carefree. We’re all much older, and we can’t even manage to get promoted to workshop director, yet you’re just giving up the vice factory director position.” Cao Xuelian sighed.

”Who wouldn’t agree?” Liu Yuwei also lamented.

”Xinyu, I also want to resign,” Lv Beiguang said sullenly.

”Lv Beiguang, your kids are already grown. Why would you resign? Don’t you need to hold this position? When Guodong comes back, wouldn’t it be good for him to take over your job?”

Lv Beiguang lowered his head and said nothing. He missed his two kids too, but he simply had no opportunity.

Hao Shichao invited everyone to drink, lightening the mood significantly.

Everyone thought about what to prepare for Jiang Xinyu as a gift, as in their eyes, life there was surely not as good as it was at home, especially considering she was going to the countryside.

Eventually, Ding Shihong also joined, but he was there to lighten the atmosphere.

After returning home, Jiang Xinyu smiled, thinking this served as a farewell with a few good friends.

Entertaining a few more people at home would suffice.

The next day, Jiang Xinyu kept busy, but by noon she took a trip to the recycling station, walked around, but didn’t find anything.

Disappointed, she returned to the factory. There were still few wealthy people around here.

After going home that evening, she began preparing dough to make bread the next day, as she needed to have some on her bike. She’d prepare in advance and give some to Wang Ailing, She Xiaoyun, Qiao Jingyi, Song Qingqing, and Pan Xiulan.

She also needed to go home once more to burn paper money for the Jiang Family’s deceased, and tomorrow she’d ask Wang Ailing if she’s returning this week.

The next day, she steamed two large racks of bread, all stored in her space.

Once she had steamed enough, she’d distribute them to a few families.

As she stepped out, she saw that there were many people on the street. She stopped an older lady, ”Auntie, what’s going on today?”

”Young lady, don’t you know? Today’s the day for Kong Demin’s public hearing.”

”Today?”

”Yes, it’s this morning at eight, and everyone’s just going to secure a spot.” The elderly woman hurried off after speaking.

Jiang Xinyu decided to go as well. Afraid of him, she had sent her kids away, and her current situation was largely connected to Kong Demin.

How could she not go see him in his miserable state? Otherwise, she’d feel she let herself down.

She went to the factory and found Qian Jun. ”Today is Kong Demin’s public hearing, and I want to check it out.”

”Even in this cold? Can’t someone just report back to you instead?”

Jiang Xinyu shook her head, ”No need, I’ll see it myself.”

”Alright then, make sure to dress warmly, and skip the morning meeting.”

Jiang Xinyu nodded with a smile, hurriedly went home to put on thick clothes and leather boots, and wrapped a thick scarf around herself. Her current condition couldn’t afford any mishaps.

After all, there’s a little baby inside her, precious beyond measure. She must be extra careful.
