Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 450: 450 pick up daughter-in-law

Meng Weihong thought for a moment and went to Qian Jun’s office.

”Mr. Qian, I’d like to go to the inn to rest, so I can leave from there tomorrow.”

”Mr. Meng, you are a woman, it’s not safe to be out alone.”

”Mr. Qian, what’s unsafe about it? We’re in a communist society now, everyone is a comrade, what could be unsafe?”

Yao Shimin entered just in time to hear this sentence.

Qian Jun had no choice, ”Alright then, just be careful, if anything happens, it’s not our responsibility.”

”Thank you, Mr. Qian.” Meng Weihong directly returned to her dormitory, she hadn’t unpacked yet, which saved her trouble.

She carried her luggage and left the textile factory, asking the guard for directions to the inn.

”Comrade, wait a moment.”

The guard dialed Jiang Xinyu’s internal phone, ”Vice Factory Director Jiang, the comrade who arrived today is leaving.”

”Find someone to send her to the inn.”

”Yes.

Comrade, please wait a moment, my colleague will send you to the inn shortly.”

”No need.”

”You’d better wait, it’s an order from above.” Truly, you don’t know what’s good for you.

Yao Shimin drove out and happened to pass by the two arguing at the gate, not stopping and driving away directly.

In the end, someone from the security department followed Meng Weihong, watching her book a room before returning.

Yao Shimin checked the time, knowing his wife hadn’t finished work yet, decided to pick her up at school.

He asked the gatekeeper, registered, and went to the office to find Qiao Jingyi.

Knocking on the door and entering, his eyes fell on his wife immediately.

”Comrade, who are you looking for?”

”I’m looking for Qiao Jingyi.”

Qiao Jingyi heard Yao Shimin’s voice, ”Why are you here?” she quickly stood up.

”To pick you up, otherwise you’d have to take the bus again tomorrow.”

”Xiao Qiao, who’s this?” a colleague in the office asked.

”Let me introduce, this is my husband, Yao Shimin.”

Yao Shimin smiled and greeted everyone.

”Xiao Qiao, there’s more than an hour left before the end of your shift, but since your husband is here to pick you up, you can go home early.”

”You sit and wait for me a bit, I’ll go talk to the principal.” Already took leave this week, was late too, better to say something if leaving early.

Yao Shimin sat at his wife’s desk, admiring her neat handwriting.

Within a few minutes, Qiao Jingyi returned, gathered her things, said goodbye to everyone, and they left together.

”Let’s go home first, I need to grab a couple of outfits and tell my parents.”

”Okay.” Yao Shimin kept staring at Qiao Jingyi, feeling like it’s been a long time since they met, never having enough of looking at her.

”Focus on driving.”

”Alright. Should we buy some groceries?”

”No need, we have food at home. Let’s eat at home before going back.”

”I talked to Jiang Xinyu, we’re having dinner at her place tonight, she went to the beach last Saturday, she’ll definitely have some treats.”

”Haha, that’s fine, too. I have a lot to talk about with Xinyu.”

When they reached home, Qiao Jingyi packed two sets of clothes, left a note for her parents, and they left together.

Along the way, Yao Shimin kept talking nonstop, asking about everything.

”You have to return the car tonight, right? Let’s go home first, I’ll ride my bike and follow you so you don’t have to walk.”

”No need, you wait for me at home, the bike’s at work. My wife really cares about me.”

They parked at the gate of their home, and Qiao Jing got out of the car.

Yao Shimin returned the car keys to the textile factory and rode his bike home.

Entering home, he saw Qiao Jingyi was cleaning. ”Honey, let me help.”

”Just sweep the yard.”

After tidying up, they were done in half an hour.

”Let’s go, we’re having dinner at Jiang Xinyu’s.”

The two kids greeted them with smiles as they entered.

Jiang Xinyu heard the commotion and came out of the kitchen, ”Jingyi, sit down, dinner will be ready soon.”

”I’ll help you.”

”Sure, you can bring out the dishes.”

It was all seafood tonight, which Qiao Jingyi certainly enjoyed.

”Xinyu, what do you think I’ll be doing after transferring?”

”I think statistics is pretty good, you can use your college degree, and the job isn’t too demanding.”

Yao Shimin nodded, ”I’ve been thinking for a few days and I agree, statistics sound good, there aren’t many people in that department, adding one more doesn’t hurt.”

”Then it’s statistics.” Qiao Jingyi didn’t have any objections. She trusted Jiang Xinyu.

After dinner, Yao Shimin was eager to leave, and Jiang Xinyu found it amusing, not pressing them to stay longer.

”Mom, are Uncle Yao and Aunt Qiao getting married?” Feifei asked.

”Yes, they’re already married.”

”Oh.”

”Smart little devil.”

Yao Shimin pedaled his bike at full speed, reaching home in a few minutes.

”Why the rush?”

”How could I not be rushing?”

Qiao Jingyi understood what he meant, gave him a playful glare.

And so the two spent another passionate night. Yao Shimin was more excited than ever, now that she was truly his wife.

That night, Meng Weihong had a nerve-wracking experience. After checking into the inn, she freshened up a bit and went down to ask the receptionist about restaurants, thinking expenses were covered, so she might as well eat well.

At the restaurant, she happened to bump into Kong Demin and his group.

Wang Dajiang noticed Kong Demin staring at the woman comrade and quickly went over, ”Comrade, where are you from? Not a local, right?”

Meng Weihong was startled, ”I’m here at the textile factory to be Vice Factory Director Jiang’s secretary.”

”Oh? You’re from the Provincial City?”

”Yes.”

Kong Demin coughed, prompting Wang Dajiang to stop asking questions.

Meng Weihong noticed the men looked unfriendly, so she hurriedly went to the counter to order food, sitting cautiously aside to eat.

Kong Demin kept staring at Meng Weihong, he could tell she was well-educated, and since she said she was Jiang Xinyu’s secretary, it proved she was indeed someone knowledgeable.

Kong Demin actually wanted to catch something against Jiang Xinyu, thinking if he could get her under his thumb, she’d have to listen to him.

But this textile factory was too difficult to tackle for now, so it remained just a thought.

He felt now was a good opportunity, planning to chat with Jiang Xinyu’s secretary after a while.

Ding Shihong, who was sitting nearby, also observed the situation, finding Kong Demin and his kind despicable. Furthermore, since the girl claimed to be Jiang Xinyu’s secretary, he couldn’t just sit by.

He called Jiang Xinyu, but there was no answer, so he dialed Qian Jun next?

”Mr. Qian, this is Ding Shihong. Jiang Xinyu’s secretary is dining alone at a restaurant, and she’s caught the Revolutionary Committee’s attention.”

”Thank you, Director Ding, I’ll send someone to pick her up soon.” Qian Jun felt frustrated, really wishing to ignore the matter. Is she that clueless? He already knew Jiang Xinyu had arranged for someone to take her to the inn, but instead of staying put, here she was, inviting trouble.
