Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 415: 415 ready

After lunch, Jiang Xinyu hurriedly went to the post office.

This was a letter to Qiao Jingyi. She really thought Yao Shimin was a good person.

Seeing that it was still early, she went to the supply and marketing cooperative to find She Xiaoyun.

”Xinyu? What brings you here?”

”I went to mail a letter. Came by to see you. Has the sweet flour sauce arrived yet?”

”It’ll be delivered on Wednesday. Ordered forty pounds.”

”Not much, with so many of us, everyone needs to get a share. I still need Brother Ding to help order more chili and garlic.”

”That’s Brother Ding’s specialty. On Wednesday, I’ll have it delivered directly to your home.”

”Great, saves some effort.”

”Wait a moment, there are peaches and apples here for you to take home for the kids.”

”Master Shang already bought some. There’s no time to make peach preserves this year.”

”There are, there’s still autumn peaches. They’ll be delivered tomorrow. I’ll have him send them to you.”

”Great, we all have children. Make some to satisfy their cravings come winter.”

”Okay, how much do you want?”

”One or two hundred pounds is fine. But you all need to help in the evening. I can’t do it alone; just peeling the peaches is a big job.”

”No problem, I’ll come over after work to help.”

”Alright, I’m leaving then.”

”Wait, do you know Qian Jun has been coming here often these days?”

”Really? I’m not particularly sure, but I heard at lunch today that he quite likes a young girl here?”

”Qian Jun is not young anymore, it’s time for him to find someone. But that young girl is quite cunning.”

”There’s no fool in the world. It’s just that some people are willing to play tricks or not.”

”True, with Qian Jun’s cunning, how could he be fooled by a young girl?”

”That’s their business. I’m heading back. If you help me with the work, you can have more peaches, and think of a way to get me fifty pounds of white sugar and twenty pounds of rock sugar.”

”Alright, I’ll figure something out.”

Just as Jiang Xinyu came out, she bumped into Gao Ruyun, and they both smiled at each other.

”Secretary She, did Director Jiang come to see you?”

”Yes, why aren’t you resting?”

”I got up to drink some water and saw Director Jiang, so I wanted to say hello.”

”Oh, she was in a hurry to get back to work.” She Xiaoyun didn’t say much else; this Xiao Gao was too cunning.

Meanwhile, Wang Dajiang bought meat today. There were pig’s feet at home, and he was specially waiting for Kong Menglin.

He hummed a song, feeling delighted. Having a woman often made him think maybe he should find a wife.

Given his current position, finding a wife should be quite simple. The young girl at the restaurant is quite pretty.

Just as he was fantasizing, he heard noise outside.

Kong Menglin came in, closed the door behind her, ”Menglin, today there’s pig’s feet and a piece of pig head meat, hurry and have a taste.”

”Okay, it smells delicious.”

The two sat down to eat. Wang Dajiang didn’t eat meat at all, just the food Kong Menglin brought from the canteen.

”Why aren’t you eating?”

”You eat. There’s not much of it, I’m afraid you won’t have enough.”

Kong Menglin was quite pleased hearing this. Did he really care about her that much?

So she generously picked a few pieces of pig head meat into Wang Dajiang’s bowl.

”Hurry and eat, I have enough.”

”No need, you eat more, it’s better to be a bit chubbier.”

Looking at the sleazy man across from her, she felt he wasn’t that unattractive.

Wang Dajiang watched Kong Menglin finish eating and quickly fetched her water to wash her hands, then offered her rice. This wasn’t something the canteen made; it was brought from the restaurant.

After eating her fill, Kong Menglin was about to wash her meal box when Wang Dajiang stopped her, ”You don’t need to, I’ll do it. Menglin, are you going home or back to the dormitory?”

”I’ll rest here.”

”Alright, let me lay out the bedding for you first.”

Kong Menglin followed Wang Dajiang into the room. She saw him take out new bedding from the cupboard and lay it out.

”Menglin, come up here.”

The two somehow ended up embracing, like dry wood catching fire. Especially since Kong Menglin hadn’t been with a man after coming out of the hospital and marrying Cheng Changsheng.

Wang Dajiang, too, as no one wanted to be with him due to his unattractive looks, ended up with Menglin, how could they not be excited?

Both did not go to work that afternoon. Wang Dajiang held Kong Menglin, ”Menglin, why are you so good?”

”Good? I can’t even have children anymore?”

”Doesn’t Cheng Changsheng have two sons?”

”They aren’t reliable; I’m just waiting for a suitable chance to adopt a little girl, so I won’t be left alone in my old age.”

”Alright, I’ll keep an eye out for you. If there’s a suitable one, I’ll bring her to you.

Menglin, my cousin is with your second brother. She’s due to give birth soon. If it’s not a boy, you can take her and raise her?”

Kong Menglin shook her head, ”I don’t want to. I’d rather have a stranger’s child. You keep an eye out for me outside. The one just born is better, easier to raise.

By the way, I heard that you liked your cousin and wanted to marry her?”

Wang Dajiang turned and pinned down Kong Menglin, ”Jealous? I used to like her, but now I have you.”

”Hmph! Don’t try to fool me.”

”Ha-ha, am I fooling you like this?”

The two tangled together once more. It wasn’t until five in the afternoon that Kong Menglin lazily got up. Wang Dajiang had already heated the bathwater. She took a simple wash, then left with her meal box.

Instead of going home, she went to her second brother’s house.

When she was younger, she didn’t know what was going on, but now she knew about her second brother and his mother-in-law.

Used to respect Meng Xiu Fen, but now she had all sorts of disdain for her.

A little girl opened the door. ”Who are you looking for?”

”I’m Kong Demin’s sister, Kong Menglin.”

Seeing the girl’s puzzled look, she asked, ”Is Zheng Xiuxiang here?”

”Yes, she’s inside.”

Zheng Xiuxiang heard the commotion outside and recognized Kong Menglin’s voice. She came out supporting her belly.

”Menglin, you came over, staying for dinner at home?”

”Uh, Zheng Xiuxiang, when are you due?”

”In September, it should be soon.”

”Oh, when will my second brother and the others return?”

”I don’t know when Director Kong will be back, but Aunt Meng should be returning soon.”

Today, Kong Menglin didn’t feel like going home, wanting to stay out for a bit longer. Now seeing Cheng Changsheng and his three sons just made her feel blocked. She wondered what she was thinking at the time? Why did she insist on marrying him?

Kong Menglin sat in the main room, watching the fool cautiously look at her. This child should be her second brother’s, resembling her family by three points, though a fool.

Could it be actual divine retribution? Their wrongdoing punished by having it fall upon the child?

”Changjun, come over, let me play with you.”
