Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 410: 410 Filthy

”Aunt Meng.” Zheng Xiuxiang lowered her head, feeling a bit wronged. Although she wasn’t educated, she wasn’t a fool. She realized that Kong Demin would never marry her; he had always been brushing her off.

”Alright, stop overthinking it. All you need to do is give birth to the child, and you’ll have good days ahead.”

Zheng Xiuxiang was quite moved. She used to suspect that Meng Xiu Fen was only superficially nice to her, but she was trying to help her get pregnant, trying to get Kong Demin to treat her well.

This kind of kindness should never be forgotten. She must be good to her and her foolish son.

Meng Xiu Fen went out, planning to find a girl who wasn’t pretty, otherwise, she would end up being snatched by Kong Demin. She should find someone plain-looking.

Last month, she looked for a street cleaner. Today, she brought her daughter over to check her out.

Meng Xiu Fen saw the girl and paused, realizing she was just about fifteen or sixteen years old, an ordinary girl who couldn’t compare to Zheng Xiuxiang in appearance. However, she seemed honest, always keeping her head down.

Finally, they agreed on eight yuan a month, including food and lodging.

She led the girl straight home.

After observing her for an afternoon, she found her to be clean and efficient in her work, which was satisfactory.

Zheng Xiuxiang finally felt relieved. She was quite terrified about having to give birth alone at home.

With someone around, she felt much more at ease.

Kong Demin went to work, but his mind kept dwelling on what Mengjie had said yesterday.

He suddenly stood up, rode his bike to the textile factory.

”Comrade, who are you looking for?”

Kong Demin was directly stopped by the gatekeeper.

”I’m looking for your Vice Factory Director Jiang.”

”And you are?”

”I’m from her village.”

”Then please wait a moment.”

The gatekeeper entered the security booth and dialed Jiang Xinyu’s office line.

”Vice Factory Director Jiang, there’s a man outside claiming to be from your village.”

”From my village? A man?”

”Yes, that’s what he says.”

”I’ll go out and have a look. What you’ve done is good; in the future, don’t let anyone in without permission.”

Jiang Xinyu put down the phone, still puzzled about who could be looking for her.

Upon reaching the entrance, she saw Kong Demin and felt disgusted.

”Jiang Xinyu.”

”Kong Demin? What do you want from me?”

”I just heard you were back and came to check on you.” Grown up now, looking much prettier.

”Oh. Kong Demin, we don’t really know each other, do we? If there’s nothing else, I’m busy with work.” Jiang Xinyu finished speaking and turned back inside.

Kong Demin watched her back as she left. Without lingering, he rode away.

He originally wanted to wait for her return, but now she’s become someone else’s woman. Not that he minded, but her animosity towards him was puzzling.

Jiang Xinyu walked back, holding two letters that appeared to be from Qiao Jingyi. She felt genuinely disgusted earlier. She knew all about Kong Demin and deeply despised such a person. Just thinking about him made her uncomfortable. What a nuisance.

Qian Jun happened to bump into Jiang Xinyu, ”Vice Factory Director Jiang, what’s up?”

”Kong Mengjie’s second brother, Kong Demin, came looking for me just now. We’re from the same village but hardly exchanged words before.”

”The one from the Revolutionary Committee?”

”Yes.”

”What did he want with you?”

”Just said he came to see me. Just disgusting.”

”Alright, I get it.” Qian Jun couldn’t quite figure out Kong Demin’s intentions but, trusting a man’s instincts, suspected he meant no good.

He had paid attention to Kong Demin before but found no conflicts of interest, so they had no relations.

However, if he dared to make a move on Jiang Xinyu, that would be a different matter. That was something he would never allow.

Kong Demin returned to his office, feeling increasingly dissatisfied. But Jiang Xinyu was different from others; a woman who could become a vice factory director of a textile plant wasn’t simple. He couldn’t confront her head-on.

But she was very disgusted with him, and that really wouldn’t work.

Suddenly, the phone rang. Kong Demin, answering, broke into a smile.

Haha, he always knew he’d turn things around. Now, he had orders from above, allowing him to investigate anyone and arrest them if they had issues.

This was great. He was troubled over how to tackle Jiang Xinyu, and this was just the method he needed.

Nonetheless, he couldn’t act impulsively; he’d first go after some county officials who looked down on him — he’d deal with Jiang Xinyu later.

Though county officials were considered leaders, Jiang Xinyu was just a vice factory director, it wasn’t the same.

With the textile factory’s large scale, her position as vice factory director certainly meant she had strong backers — definitely not ordinary people — so it was best to proceed cautiously and devise a plan.

Wang Dajiang overheard Kong Demin’s phone conversation but didn’t catch the details. However, hearing the laughter from within, it must have been good news for Kong Demin, which would never do.

He knocked on the door and entered. ”Director Kong, what’s got you so happy? I could hear your laughter from outside.”

”Haha, our Revolutionary Committee’s power is now immense. You’re just in time; go gather some information, let’s vent some frustration.”

”Alright, I’ll make sure to complete the task.”

So that’s what it was? The people he asked him to investigate were all those who looked down on Kong Demin — an abuse of power for personal vendetta?

Focused on his thoughts, he wasn’t paying attention ahead.

”Wang Dajiang. Did you go blind?”

”Meng Lin? Did I hurt you?”

”What are you thinking about?”

”Nothing, Director Kong has given me work, and I’m considering it.”

”Are you heading out?”

”Yes, I have to investigate.”

”Then get me some pigs’ trotters to send home, I’ll be heading home soon.”

”Alright, just wait. Though today’s canteen offerings are good, you could grab some. Even if there are no pigs’ trotters, you shouldn’t go hungry.”

”Okay, go ahead, don’t be late.”

Wang Dajiang felt pleased inside; ever since Kong Menglin married Cheng Changsheng, she hadn’t spoken to him.

Wondering if this was a chance, she couldn’t get pregnant, and that was delightful.

With a smile, Wang Dajiang left. He headed straight to the restaurant, where Ding Shihong knew Wang Dajiang.

”Captain, anything I can help you with?”

”Director Ding, just wanted to ask if there are any pigs’ trotters today?”

”No pigs’ trotters today, unfortunately.”

”What’s on the menu then?”

Not wishing to offend, ”We have braised pork.”

”Director Ding, I’ll take an order of that.”

”Alright.”

Ding Shihong instructed a server to prepare it. He did not overcharge for both meat tickets and money.

”Captain Wang, apologies, it’s public affairs.”
