Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 414: 414 points clear

Hastily returning home, the three of them weren’t there, but she saw Yao Shimin at the door.

”Vice Factory Director Yao, you’re back?”

”Indeed I am. Came to your place for a meal, got hungry on the train.”

”No problem, but there’s no meat today. How about I make you some scallion pancakes?”

”Sure.”

Jiang Xinyu opened the door, and the two of them entered the yard together.

No matter where they go, men always travel light; Yao Shimin was no exception. Just one leather bag, probably with some change of clothes inside.

”Vice Factory Director Yao, have a seat and rest for a while, I need to knead the dough.”

”Let me learn. There’s something I need to ask you.”

”Haha, what can I possibly do?”

”Jiang Xinyu, how about you introduce me to someone for matchmaking?”

Jiang Xinyu was taken aback for a moment, ”I’ve never done this before.”

Yao Shimin watched Jiang Xinyu boil water and scald the dough, following right behind her, and helped her fetch scallions by squatting down eagerly.

”Jiang Xinyu, I got divorced. Now I’m free, and I’ve asked Qian Jun to help me find a house. I want to get married soon.”

Jiang Xinyu thought for a moment, ”I really don’t know any women. But I’ll help you ask around. You should go to Sister Meng and them, they’ve been living here a long time, so of course they know more people.”

”Yeah, I’ll definitely ask tomorrow.”

Actually, Jiang Xinyu already had someone in mind. Qiao Jingyi had been driven crazy by her family pressuring her to get married. She’s already twenty-four, which is considered a late age for marriage in this era. Yao Shimin is four years older than her, which is still acceptable. But Yao Shimin is divorced, will Qiao Jingyi and the Qiao Family mind?

I’d better write her a letter to ask for her opinion? Considering my understanding of Yao Shimin, he definitely can be considered a good person, but whether he’s a good man or husband, that’s unknown.

After all, I know some men who are great outside, truly gentlemen, but when they get home, they’re tyrannical with their wives and kids.

The pot of millet porridge was already boiling; the heat at the bottom was enough, so I just put the lid on.

After washing the scallions, I swung them around in the yard for a long time, suddenly recalling that energetic scallion-swinging song.

Then I went into the kitchen and used lard this time; it smells even better.

Once the scallion oil was simmered, it was made into oil pastry and set aside. Seeing there were cucumbers left, I shredded cucumbers and red pickled vegetables. Sugared tomatoes, these were the only two dishes.

”Uncle Yao, you’re having a meal at our house?”

Jiang Xinyu laughed upon hearing her daughter’s words; this little girl.

”Yes, Feifei, don’t you welcome Uncle Yao?”

”Of course I do.”

Shang Zhenkun laughed as he cut watermelon for Yao Shimin. The two children giggled and rushed into the kitchen.

”Shall I make scallion pancakes for you?”

”Mom, I’ve wanted to eat them for a long time, but you’re too busy and tired; I didn’t want to ask.”

”Shi Jing, Feifei, from now on, tell Mom directly what you want to eat. Alright, it’s too hot in here, go play outside.”

Forty minutes later, Jiang Xinyu served the meal; the aroma of scallions had already made Yao Shimin swallow his saliva.

This guy doesn’t know what courtesy is; he ate three big pancakes in one meal.

”Uncle Yao, have you been starving for days?” Shi Jing teased the uncle still sipping millet porridge.

”Yeah, couldn’t quite get used to the food on the train.” Yao Shimin had no embarrassment at all.

Once he was gone, the family cleaned up and played in the yard for a while before bathing and going to bed.

”Mom, today we saw Uncle Qian.”

”Oh? Where did you go?”

”Supply and marketing cooperative, the sister there is the salesperson.”

”Your Uncle Qian doesn’t have a wife yet; maybe I can take you two to his wedding feast.”

”Mom, when is Dad coming back?”

”Your Dad called today, he misses you both very much, but I guess he can’t come back until New Year’s.”

”Oh? Mom, can we call Dad?”

”Only once a week. No more, so it doesn’t affect your Dad.”

”Okay, I’ll ask Master Shang to take me and brother to call Dad tomorrow.”

In the dark, Jiang Xinyu’s face was bitter; this family can’t be together, it’s truly painful, both parents and children are suffering.

The next day, Monday morning, Jiang Xinyu was in a meeting; Qian Jun and Yao Shimin attended the finance department meeting, as it was very relevant.

The finance department must absolutely obey orders. Jiang Xinyu tasked them with memorizing the financial system; any finance department personnel must know it by heart, random checks, and must be fluent.

At noon, the three went to the canteen for lunch together, ”Vice Factory Director Jiang, you’re truly impressive.”

”Impressive? It’s just too much responsibility, I have to be careful.

Vice Factory Director Yao, have you talked to Sister Meng and them?”

”Didn’t have the chance, I’ll go after lunch.”

”Hmm, I’m going to the post office to mail a letter. I have a friend I think is quite suitable, but I need to ask her if she minds you or not, since you’re already divorced.”

”Thank you.”

”Shimin, are you looking for a match?”

”Yes, I’m free now, want to find a wife nearby, that way we won’t be separated by distance. Qian Jun, you should settle down too.”

Jiang Xinyu smiled as she spoke, and Yao Shimin glanced at her. ”Qian Jun, do you have someone in mind?”

”No, just a young girl I find interesting.”

Both Jiang Xinyu and Yao Shimin laughed. If he thinks she’s interesting, it’s clear he’s interested.

Qian Jun watched the two laugh, helplessly shaking his head, ”I really haven’t thought that far, she’s young, just feel relaxed with her, but I have someone in my heart.”

Yao Shimin put away his smile, ”Qian Jun, aren’t we friends?”

”Of course.” Qian Jun looked puzzled at Yao Shimin.

”Since you consider me a friend, I have to say something; if you don’t have feelings for that girl, don’t give her false impressions. And since you have someone in your heart, behaving this way is even more unfair to her.”

Qian Jun looked at Jiang Xinyu, who was still smiling, showing no hint of unusual expression.

”I understand, I’ll think about it carefully.”

The three silently ate, and Qian Jun felt a bit uneasy; Jiang Xinyu really had no feelings for him, knowing he was close with a young girl, she showed absolutely no reaction.

Yet, picking a girl like Gao Ruyun just didn’t feel right; he preferred capable women and hoped his wife could stand beside him, not behind him.

Over the years, only Jiang Xinyu met his standards, but she had no feelings for him.

Really a huge blow, what wasn’t good about him? Such a young factory director still not enough?
