Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 451: 451 Meng Weihong

Even if Qian Jun is still angry now, he can’t really let a girl be in danger.

He called the director of the Security Department and directly asked him to send two people to the hotel to bring Meng Weihong out.

Meng Weihong was eating while cautiously observing those people from before. She saw them brazenly laughing and talking loudly in the restaurant, and no one was stopping them. Moreover, they kept looking at her, their eyes had met several times already.

She was really terrified and felt a bit regretful; she should not have come out to eat. If she had known about this situation, what harm is skipping a meal?

Nervously finishing her meal, she stood up intending to leave but was stopped by Wang Dajiang.

”Comrade, I’m from the Revolutionary Committee. You should come with us; you know girls from out of town dining alone at a restaurant, we suspect you have issues.”

”That’s nonsense, what issues do I have? It’s dinner time, I came to eat, what’s strange about that?”

”Whether you think it’s strange is irrelevant, it’s what we think that matters, let’s go.”

Meng Weihong looked at Wang Dajiang’s sleazy appearance and felt truly afraid.

”I’m not going. If I must go, our factory director must come and take me.”

”You have no choice in the matter.”

Kong Demin was drinking on the side, and upon hearing her words, suddenly thought that having Jiang Xinyu come to ask for her was also an option.

”Will you come with me willingly, or shall I have to restrain you?”

”You’ll dare? Is there no law anymore?”

Meng Weihong was pretending to be tough, but she was scared out of her wits, seeing others not caring for her, she wondered if she was really going to be taken away?

No way, that absolutely can’t happen. ”I’m not unwilling to cooperate with your work, but I’m a worker from the textile factory. I’ve just arrived and am unfamiliar here, not just anybody can take me away. I’ll call our factory director and when he comes, I’ll go with you for investigation.”

”No need for you to notify anyone; when you arrive at the Revolutionary Committee, we’ll call your factory director. Let’s go.”

Meng Weihong was terrified, and just as Wang Dajiang was losing patience, three men came in.

”Director, I am Meng Weihong.”

”Comrade Meng, why did you come out for a meal?”

”I...I just wanted to taste the local food.”

”Alright then, Director Qian is looking for you regarding a matter; let’s go.”

”Wait, who are you?”

”And who are you? I’m Pan Jinliang, the head of the Security Department of the textile factory.”

”Oh, turns out it’s the head of the Security Department of the textile factory. I am Wang Dajiang, Captain of the Criminal Investigation Team from the Revolutionary Committee.”

Pan Jinliang immediately extended his hand, ”My apologies, I didn’t realize it was Captain Wang.”

The two shook hands.

”Director Pan, this comrade must be taken back to the Revolutionary Committee for investigation.”

The smile on Pan Jinliang’s face disappeared, but he continued speaking very politely, ”Captain Wang, Comrade Meng Weihong is a new secretary in our textile factory.”

”Your textile factory is really a major unit; merely a simple sentence will suffice, won’t it?”

”Captain Wang, with all due respect, no matter how large a unit we are, we are led by the country and the people, and Comrade Meng was sent by the province.”

At this moment Kong Demin came over, realizing the matter could just end like this—not because he was afraid of Pan Jinliang, but because it’s really not the right time to move against the textile factory.

The city leadership had called, stating their power would soon surpass that of now. There’s no need to risk it over this person.

”Wang Dajiang.”

”Director Kong.”

Pan Jinliang smiled as he looked at Kong Demin. ”This is Director Kong of the Revolutionary Committee? I owe you an apology.”

”Director Pan, it’s all a misunderstanding. Since you can prove she is a worker from the textile factory, we’ll leave it at that; we were only concerned for public safety.”

”Yes, Director Kong, this is part of the job. Thank you for understanding. Comrade Meng, show your letter of introduction to Director Kong.”

”Director, my letter of introduction, I didn’t bring it with me.” Meng Weihong said softly.

”Xiao Liu, can you ride with Comrade Meng back to get it.”

Director Kong, consider this meal on me. We’ll eat while waiting, I’ll go order a few more dishes.”

”Understood, Director.”

At this point, Wang Dajiang didn’t stop them. Since Kong Demin intervened, he had to quietly stay put.

At this moment Ding Shihong also appeared and saw Pan Jinliang, smilingly greeted him, ”Director Pan is here?”

”Yes, Director Ding, maybe some nice dishes, a few more bottles of wine.”

”Haha, nice dishes? At this time what’s available? You could get some peanuts and scrambled eggs.”

”Director Ding, just arrange things, also let me cover Director Kong’s table’s expense.”

”Alright, have a seat, I’ll make arrangements.” Ding Shihong left with a smile.

Pan Jinliang smilingly invited Kong Demin to sit down.

”Director Pan, this new Comrade Meng is Vice Factory Director Jiang’s secretary?”

”No, she’s Mr. Qian’s secretary.”

”Being new and yet can be the principal factory director’s secretary? Seems this comrade is quite capable.”

”This I’m not sure, she just arrived, I suppose someone is behind it?” Pan Jinliang was equally helpless, needing a strategy to cover for Meng Weihong, truly vexed inwardly.

After a few minutes the scrambled eggs and two bottles of white liquor were served, finally with fried peanuts.

”Director Kong, please forgive, I arrived a bit late today, let’s drink together someday when there’s a chance.”

”You’re too kind, Director Pan, let’s have a drink.”

Both men, being adept at socializing, felt their relationship improved greatly after a drink.

Half an hour later, Xiao Liu returned with Meng Weihong, with a hint of anger visible on Xiao Liu’s face, Pan Jinliang roughly guessed that mischief from the problematic person occurred again.

Meng Weihong reluctantly handed the letter of introduction to Pan Jinliang.

”Director Kong, take a look, this is from the Textile Industry Management Bureau.”

”I trust Director Pan.”

You trust but staged this act? ”Director Kong, what do you say? Send Comrade Meng back to rest; after all, she is female.”

”Alright, since Comrade Meng’s identity is verified, going home naturally isn’t an issue.”

”Xiao Liu, please escort Comrade Meng back.”

Director Kong, let’s continue drinking. It’s not often we get this opportunity.”

Kong Demin nodded with a smile, ”Certainly a rare chance, one hardly sees Director Pan.”

”Where is the time for such? Our Security Department is managed by Vice Factory Director Jiang, and our Vice Factory Director Jiang is exceptionally strict, establishing many regulations. As the Security Department head, I really dare not casually step out.

Every day I’m at the unit, and two night shifts a week.”

”So demanding?”

”Not really demanding, just long hours. Can’t be helped, my wife also works at the textile factory, and we’re settled here in this life.”

”Haha, the textile factory is still a rare good unit.”

”It’s decent, slightly better wages than other units, but truly demanding. My wife is a frontline worker and thus even more demanding.”
