Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 419: 419 Every family has its own difficult scripture to recite

She stood up, and no one in the group behind her uttered a word. She was definitely sticking her neck out.

Jiang Xinyu held back She Xiaoyun, who was about to speak. ”Sister, there’s no need for that. Mr. Wang, they’re all your family, right? To avoid making things ugly, you should persuade them to leave. Don’t make it disgraceful.”

”Who do you think you are?”

”I’m a person; I don’t know if I’m anything like a scallion.”

Wang Tongzhou also felt extremely embarrassed. He had been working since he was fourteen and never saved a penny. But the turning point came when he went home once and overheard his mother telling his brother to eat quickly, so he wouldn’t see.

It turned out he was just a money-making tool for this family. From then on, he would keep half of his salary every month. Even when he got a raise, he still gave the same amount as before, not a penny more.

He was indeed fortunate to see the true colors of so-called family early on; otherwise, how could he have gotten married and had children?

He remembered how before he got married, his mother told him not to get married too soon because there was still a family to support.

At that time, he was really heartbroken and directly proposed to separate the family. He had worked for this family for fourteen years; he wouldn’t feel aggrieved if things were well. But his mother never considered that he was already twenty-eight. She was busy arranging a wife for his eldest brother, who was only twenty; he was twenty-eight, while the twenty-year-old was still considered early.

”You guys should leave; we’ve already split up. Don’t come looking for me anymore. I’ve done right by you, toiling away like a beast of burden for fourteen years. And now? Just because times are tough, you come looking for me again?

I haven’t forgotten that when I got married, I gave the family four hundred yuan to split up. What? Spent it all?

Even if you did, it has nothing to do with me.”

”Big brother, how can you be like this?”

”Then what should I do?”

”We are your family, your siblings.”

”I don’t have such siblings. Leave immediately, or I’ll call the police. They’ll take you away for the things you just stole from my house.

Honestly, it’s not so bad; at least you’d have someone to provide meals.”

An elderly woman stepped forward with tears in her eyes, ”Tongzhou, I’m your mother. How can you treat me like this?”

”What did I do to you? Fourteen years of wages, and when I got married, not a single cent was left for me. Instead, I had to give you four hundred yuan for old-age care?

Fortunately, I wrote down the division agreement back then; otherwise, I couldn’t justify any of this.”

”I am your mother.”

”Did you ever treat me like your son? I worked in the coal mines day and night, hardly ate or dressed, and brought home the money. You ate and dressed well; that was fine, but you were never good to me.

Whenever there was something good to eat, you finished it before I came home.”

”What money?” The elderly woman stubbornly clung to her words, refusing to admit.

”No worries, I’ve kept all my pay slips. We can simply check and see if there was any money.”

This made the courtyard fall silent. No one dared to speak.

”You all should go. Make it ugly if you want, but it’ll be on you. And from now on, I’ll stick to what’s in the separation document. Only when you pass away will I visit; you won’t need to look for me again. I also have my own children to raise.”

”I am your mother,” she said, bursting into tears.

”I treated you as a mother, but you never treated me as a son. From now on, no one should appear at my house; otherwise, don’t blame me for being unkind.”

She Xiaoyun felt very sorry for her man, not knowing about these things. He never told her.

”Your brother is about to get married. You have to contribute; if not, I won’t leave.”

”Mom, didn’t you say you would give me the sewing machine as my dowry?” The outspoken woman stood up, unwilling to let it go, shouting out loud.

Jiang Xinyu watched all this, feeling astonished; she’d finally seen the worst kind.

”Not leaving? Fine.” Wang Tongzhou said, and then turned toward the gate.

”Where are you going?” The elderly woman chased after him.

Wang Tongzhou said nothing and didn’t stop, walking straight out of the courtyard.

His family was dumbfounded. Was he really going to the police station?

These people were bullies in fear of the strong. Seeing the situation, they all rushed out in a swarm, even the foolish one left, though not willingly, glaring fiercely at She Xiaoyun.

”Tongzhou, Tongzhou, stop! They’re all your family, and you’re doing this? If this goes to the police, what about the younger son’s wedding?”

”You two, hurry and catch up with your big brother.”

Wang Tongzhou’s two younger brothers ran over to stop him. They pinned down their older brother.

Just then, She Xiaoyun and Jiang Xinyu came out, and seeing this, She Xiaoyun suddenly turned around, grabbed a shovel from the yard, and rushed over.

She swung the shovel down on the two of them. ”I’ve been too nice to you, a bunch of ingrates.”

Everyone was shocked, and everyone took a step back. She Xiaoyun had always been gentle, and the two brothers released their grip, unable to resist.

Actually, Wang Tongzhou didn’t intend to go to the police; it wouldn’t look good. Although they wronged him, they were still his siblings. So when they held him, he didn’t struggle.

But seeing his wife fight for him, he was moved. Only his wife was genuinely good to him.

He didn’t stop his wife, letting her vent her anger.

After all, as men, Wang Tongzhou’s older brother snatched the shovel from She Xiaoyun’s hand. At this, Wang Tongzhou wouldn’t stand for it and directly kicked him from behind, knocking him to the ground.

Jiang Xinyu stood by She Xiaoyun’s side. ”Sister She, calm down; don’t stoop to their level. Mr. Wang, you should go to the police station and resolve this today; it can’t go on like this. How is my sister supposed to live?

The people could do nothing but listen.

Wang Tongzhou walked over to She Xiaoyun, ”Xiao Yun, don’t be mad. I’ll go to the police station and have them all taken away to relieve your anger.”

”Tongzhou, you are ungrateful! I gave birth to you, raised you, and you are willing to abandon your mother for a woman, abandon your siblings?”

”If you say so, return my money. If you don’t, I’m not afraid; I’ll take this to the village chief and get the money directly from the brigade.”

Wang’s mother was startled, knowing that if Wang Tongzhou really went back, the village would indeed pay him. After all, Wang Tongzhou was still a leader outside, and the village chief would certainly side with him.

”Fine, from today, I don’t have a son like you. Even if I die, you don’t need to see me off.”

Wang Tongzhou felt a sharp pain in his heart; this was his mother. His father wasn’t in good health, unable to do heavy labor. He had become the main labor force at home since he was eight years old, working like a beast of burden for twenty years for this family, and this was what he got in return.
