Global Awakening: I'm the Only One Ready

Chapter 143. The Vatican’s Five Holy Relics—Nuke Launched!

Thermonuclear weapons represented the apex of humanity’s technology; they could be said to be the most devastating weapons ever created.

Despite the Global Awakening and despite the fact that many people had obtained transcendent abilities, the world had yet to devolve into chaos. Why was that the case?

The reason behind it was the fact that the majority of the Awakened couldn’t withstand the might of modern weapons.

Nukes could surely annihilate any powerful beings at this stage of the Global Awakening. Even the strongest among the beast kings would certainly die in the face of a nuke.

This was the reason nations all over the world remained stable.

In both the old era and the New Era, nukes remained the ultimate instruments of destruction, but they would eventually become obsolete.

Despite knowing that Mount Olympus could deploy such weapons against him, Lu Yuan still chose to go. He wanted to test if he was strong enough to withstand a nuke without being injured.

Indeed, without being injured. He knew his physique had become extraordinarily powerful to the point where even humanity’s strongest weapons could not kill him anymore.

Whether he would sustain any injuries at all, however, remained unclear. He wanted to test his limits, and this was the perfect time to do so, as he was in his strongest state.

This moment would validate his many days of seclusion. Upon proving his invincible might, he would surely deal massive damage to the Holy Knight and the Celestial Archangel.

He’d become a true deterrent by then, and it would allow him to establish the Alliance of Humankind.

Lu Yuan was confident. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have chosen to proceed, and he wouldn’t have sent a mere two-word reply to Elder Ji, which stated, ”No worries.”

”When we reach the Holy City, go explore elsewhere. Come back when I summon you,” said Lu Yuan, patting the Golden-Winged Great Peng’s back. He could face the devastating power of a nuke without fear, but the great peng would be in grave danger. It had to stay very far away.

”Hm? Ah, understood, Master.” The Golden-Winged Great Peng was puzzled, but it didn’t question it, as it knew that it was best to obey.

Lu Yuan said no more and simply gazed ahead.

Within the castle on the summit of Mount Olympus, the Holy Knight and Celestial Archangel sat side by side, looking solemn.

Figures in armor and clergy robes, representing the combined forces of the Vatican and Mount Olympus, stood around them.

All of these individuals had reached the Awakened Realm, making them true elites. No one spoke; they all waited quietly. According to their calculations, Lu Yuan would appear today.

Everything was ready; they were only waiting for their target.

”Report!” Soon, a powerful Awakened entered the castle’s great hall. He bowed slightly to the two leaders. ”My lords, we’ve detected Lu Yuan, and he is expected to reach the Holy City in half an hour.”

”Excellent!” The Holy Knight immediately rose, his eyes gleaming. Beside him, the Celestial Archangel also revealed a smile. Their target had finally arrived. It seemed everything would finally end today.

”Tell those reporters to go live,” the Holy Knight ordered. ”Keep them at a distance, but they must record everything. Also, tell our people in the Holy City to receive him and keep him occupied.”

The live broadcast would allow the entire world to witness the event, maximizing the impact of their plan. It would show everyone, especially the East, the fate of those daring enough to challenge them.

”That’s great,” the Celestial Archangel said. ”Tell my attendants that this is all according to God’s decree. In the afterlife, God will bless them.”

A nuke would soon obliterate the Holy City, so they couldn’t go there themselves, but they had already sent people to keep Lu Yuan busy. They would then activate the Vatican’s holy relics to seal the area and buy time for the nuke to arrive.

After that, everything would be settled.

”Understood!” the Awakened replied and departed the castle.

”In the face of a nuke, no Awakened is powerful. I can already see him becoming a pile of ash,” the Holy Knight said, smiling with the certainty of a foolproof plan.

The Celestial Archangel, however, remained worried. ”I feel like one nuke isn’t enough. What if he doesn’t die?”

He harbored doubts, believing the plan could fail.

”Edward, my friend, one nuke is more than sufficient.” The Holy Knight remained confident, as if victory were already guaranteed. ”And if he survives one, another one would be meaningless. In other words, a single nuke must be enough.”

He harbored a deep wariness for Lu Yuan, knowing the man was extraordinarily powerful. Despite being only at the Unfettered Realm, he was capable of slaying mighty beast kings at the Golden Body Realm. At this point, perhaps only a nuke would work against him, as everything else would surely prove ineffective.

If the nuke was useless, then everyone present would find themselves in a dead end. But was that even possible?

”Mmhm.” The Celestial Archangel nodded, knowing the Holy Knight’s words were true. For some reason, however, the Holy Knight’s words couldn’t assuage the worry in his heart and had exacerbated it instead.

”Don’t overthink it.” The Holy Knight walked to his side with a smile. ”It will definitely succeed. Come with me; let’s see it for ourselves together.”

The Celestial Archangel said no more. Regardless of his doubts, he could only pray for the operation’s success. With that, the two left the castle and headed to a massive platform in the middle of Mount Olympus.

The platform gave them a perfect view of the Holy City. Many news reporters stood ready with high-end cameras. Even though they were incredibly distant from the Holy City, their cameras had a powerful zoom to record everything.

Thanks to the changes happening to Mount Olympus, they weren’t worried about the fallout. As for the Holy City, well, it had long become a sacred ground. The Holy Knight had long disallowed ordinary citizens from entering the city.

The Holy Knight and the Celestial Archangel patiently and quietly stared at an enormous screen before them.

Soon, the live broadcast began.

At the Mount Tai Trials Academy, Elder Ji and the others frowned upon receiving Lu Yuan’s message. They were about to launch a nuke against him. How could anyone withstand such a devastating weapon of mass destruction?

Zhu Qingyu broke the tension, saying, ”I believe he has confidence in himself. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have sent that. I think we should just wait patiently for what he’s about to do.”

Her words silenced everyone, and it was all because they had no choice but to wait.

Lu Yuan knew the two forces’ goal, yet he still chose to go. He had to have a card up his sleeve.

Just then, the Ice Fairy noticed that the live broadcast on Mount Olympus had finally started.

Everyone immediately tuned in and stared nervously at the screen. If they truly attacked Lu Yuan with a nuke, what would happen to him? They couldn’t even imagine the outcome.

Those at home and even those in offices tuned in to the live broadcast.

「It’s starting! This is a historic meeting between the East and the West! I wonder if they’ll end up establishing the Alliance of Humankind.」

「Huh? Something’s wrong with this camera angle. Why is it so far from the Holy City?」

「Yeah, it looks kinda blurry. Shouldn’t they be closer?」

「The Celestial Archangel and the Holy Knight don’t even seem to be in the city. Aren’t those people just mere subordinates?」

The people of Huaxia quickly noticed something amiss, and it dampened their excitement. The camera was too far away from the city, and the two leaders were missing.

Hadn’t they promised to receive him personally?

Before they could have any answers to their questions, Lu Yuan’s arrival distracted them.

The Golden-Winged Great Peng descended slowly on the central plaza of the Holy City. Lu Yuan saw more than ten people waiting for him.

The Holy Knight and Celestial Archangel were absent.

Lu Yuan smiled at the sight and dismounted. Following Lu Yuan’s order, the Golden-Winged Great Peng spread its wings and vanished into the firmament.

”You’re here, King Lu,” a Westerner in the signature robes of the Vatican said. He then walked up to Lu Yuan and smiled. ”The Esteemed Celestial Archangel has been waiting for you on the summit of Mount Olympus.”

”The Esteemed Holy Knight also welcomes the King of the East, King Lu.” A man in silver armor also stepped forward. He sounded so enthusiastic that it was like he genuinely welcomed Lu Yuan’s presence.

Behind the two figures, however, several people quietly moved, forming a pentagram around Lu Yuan. They were people from the Vatican; their faces were cold, and a resolute light glimmered in their eyes.

Lu Yuan noticed that, but his expression remained unchanging. He swept his gaze across everyone in front of him and said, ”Since you’re ready, go ahead. Make your move.”

A deathly silence descended. The people of Huaxia tuning in to the broadcast were bewildered. They couldn’t hear the dialogue, but they could see that the atmosphere had become strange.

Everyone knew something was about to happen. Were they going to attack King Lu? It seemed unlikely. With his strength, even the Holy Knight and Celestial Archangel combined were too weak.

Would they be so foolish as to send mere subordinates against him?

”Not good, they’re doing it.” Elder Ji and the others tensed.

Unlike the public, they knew exactly what was about to happen.

Sure enough, five figures from the Vatican produced divine artifacts—a holy spear, a holy grail, a shroud, a golden box, and a crown of thorns.

These were the Vatican’s five holy relics. Apparently, God himself had left it behind, so it contained formidable might.

The five figures bit their tongues, dripping blood onto the holy relics.

Swoosh!

The holy relics radiated a blazing holy light, which converged on the pentagram that enveloped Lu Yuan.

The man in silver armor declared, ”By order of the Esteemed Holy Knight and the Esteemed Celestial Archangel, we pass divine judgement upon you, King of the East, Lu Yuan!”

The other figures from Mount Olympus produced daggers and stabbed their own hearts.

The Vatican’s holy relics needed human sacrifice to perform at their peak.

Rumble!

A radiant light erupted from the pentagram, sealing everything within it.

Lu Yuan felt his body become incomparably heavy. He felt like an entire mountain was on his shoulder, but he could easily shatter the suppression.

Upon seeing that, the Holy Knight exclaimed, ”Launch it!”

Shwoong!

Less than a hundred miles away, a small rocket immediately took flight.

In less than a minute, it appeared directly above the Holy City.

A nuke. The footage was broadcast live. Everyone watching stared in shock, and their faces froze in terror. At last, everyone finally knew the Holy Knight’s scheme. He wanted to use a nuke to annihilate Lu Yuan!
