Global Awakening: I'm the Only One Ready

”Even if Longevity Genetics falls, I will drag him down with me. I will drown every soul in Shen City. All of them can accompany us to our graves!” Wang Zhenyun’s voice tore through the air, his facial features twisted to reveal traces of madness.

His eyes were bloodshot, and veins protruded from his forehead; he resembled an enraged lion stripped of restraint. His rage had reached the apex, and every syllable he spat carried madness at its core.

At his side, the two madams froze. They exchanged troubled glances as they could not follow the context of Wang Zhenyun’s words.

”Zhenyun, what’s wrong?” the First Madam asked, fear trembling through her voice.

”That Lu fellow is too strong. No one in the Wang Family can stand against him. If he comes, we’ll all die. But I refuse to accept that. The Wang Family will not fall quietly. There is one final way.” Wang Zhenyun’s tone steadied, though the madness in his eyes remained undimmed. ”Even if the Wang Family perishes, I will make sure all of Shen City remembers this day.”

Indeed, time was not a luxury for the Wang Family. The family’s legacy had barely begun to unfurl in this New Era. They were still preparing; their foundations had yet to show their true weight.

Now, everything threatened to collapse.

Wang Zhenyun knew Lu Yuan wouldn’t grant them time. He could not fathom how the man had grown so immeasurably powerful in such a short time.

Most Awakened lingered in the Foundation or Awakened Realms, yet Lu Yuan had entered the Unfettered Realm and seemed to have shattered a few genetic shackles. His breakthrough had already ripened.

In a single stroke, he had annihilated three great powers in Hu City.

Regret gnawed at Wang Zhenyun. Why had he provoked such a being?

But it was all spilled milk now. There was no turning back. The wheels of his desperate plan had already begun to grind.

At this point, there was only one thing he could do, and that was to exhaust every means to save the Wang Family. Even if saving the family was impossible, then he would drag as many souls down with them as he could.

He shall let the Wang name become a tombstone that stains the memory of everyone who had opposed them. He would hand Lu Yuan a wound so deep that it would never heal, a memory so bitter it could never be forgotten.

Wang Zhenyun knew well that what he was planning was undoubtedly casting his humanity away. But so what?

Longevity Genetics, the entire Wang Family, would soon cease to exist. There was no room left for conscience.

”Zhenyun, what are you planning to do? I will support you with everything I have!” The Second Madam spoke, her voice laced with hatred.

Ever since the death of her son Wang Tao, her heart had died with him; all that remained was a hunger for revenge. Unable even to avenge him, her madness only deepened.

She believed everything had failed because of others’ faults, and if others had erred, then they must pay.

The First Madam said nothing, but her silence was an answer. Clearly, she supported her husband’s decision.

”Recently, the sea has not been calm,” Wang Zhenyun continued. ”Monitoring shows a large number of mutated sea beasts gathering beyond Shen City’s waters. They haven’t attacked. Evidently, they’re still contemplating the strength of the human world. Aurora Academy and Polaris Biotech are watching too, to keep the fragile balance in check.

”But that balance is easily shattered. It takes only one strike—one missile—to incur their wrath.

”Lu Yuan wants to annihilate us, doesn’t he? So we’ll tell him plainly that if we die, we will act to enrage the sea beasts. Let’s see if he still dares to touch us!”

As the owner of Longevity Genetics, Wang Zhenyun understood the severity of this plan. They had always treated the sea-beast threat with caution. After all, there were countless of them out there, and energy fluctuations were violent too.

Longevity Genetics lay within Shen City’s heart. If the sea beasts attacked, the Wang Family would be affected as well. But now, the Wang Family stood on the brink of extinction, and he could no longer worry about other matters.

His plan was simple and savage. He was going to use the threat of the mutated sea beasts gathered beyond Shen City as a bargaining chip. He intended to frame the situation such that Lu Yuan would hold back against wiping the Wang Family out.

Just like what he had said earlier. Even if Longevity Genetics was to fall, then they would drag more souls down with them!

Wang Zhenyun’s thought was extremely crazy, the sort born of desperation. Shen City was one of the five great supercities with its population running into the hundreds of millions. If the sea beasts attacked, the destruction would be unimaginable.

However, Wang Zhenyun did not care. Only one thing mattered to him now. And that was to use every life in Shen City as leverage against Lu Yuan.

Yeah, Lu Yuan was powerful but would he dare to ignore the lives of countless innocents?

”Then what are we waiting for? Begin it at once!” the Second Madam cried, embracing the madness of the plan without hesitation.

She was as broken as Wang Zhenyun. Clearly, both of them were birds of the same feather. The First Madam required no persuasion either. Her son was dead, the family was crumbling; there was nothing else to worry over.

”I’ll make the arrangements now.” Wang Zhenyun rose and left the office.

Though the five family elders were gone, Longevity Genetics remained one of the four major powers. Its foundations were not entirely spent; there were still resources they could mobilize.

What he intended to do now was to act on the plan—to deliberately enrage the mutated sea beasts, to summon a tide of monsters crashing into Shen City.

Even if the Wang Family fell, they would ensure that they burned a mark into the world’s history.

A few days later, a plane from Hu City to Shen City cut through the clouds, its engines humming steadily.

Inside the cabin, Ji Yuzhen, the owner of Polaris Biotech, answered a call. As she listened, her expression shifted from first disbelief, then to fury.

”So, Wang Zhenyun has mobilized five armed helicopters to head toward the outer sea and their target may be the very area where those mutated sea beasts have been gathering?”

Her complexion turned pale. The fingers of her left hand clenched so tightly that her nails dug into her flesh. She had not expected Longevity Genetics to go this far. To resort to something this mad.

”Alright, I understand. But listen, do not act rashly,” she said coldly. ”It’s a large swarm of mutated sea beasts. One wrong move could make the entire situation spiral out of control. Tell Commander Zhang to monitor every move the Wang Family makes. And if necessary, issue a Level One Beast Tide Alert immediately.”

She hung up and made several more phone calls. When at last she lowered the phone, her face was still drained of color, her brow furrowed deep with worry.

”Aunt, what’s wrong?”

Ice Fairy had just entered the cabin with a plate of fruit in her hands.

She rarely saw such a grave expression on her aunt’s visage, so she knew something terrible had happened.

”Longevity Genetics has dispatched men to the outer sea near Shen City to provoke the mutated sea beasts. I believe Wang Zhenyun intends to shatter the fragile balance between them and humans, and incite a full-scale beast tide to besiege the city.”

The information was fragmented, but Ji Yuzhen was no ordinary woman. She understood Wang Zhenyun’s intention at once.

”Longevity Genetics... Has Wang Zhenyun gone mad?” Ice Fairy’s voice trembled with anger as her eyes widened.

This was pure madness. To do such a thing was to ignore the lives of every citizen in Shen City.

Even though the first phase of the city’s defensive system had been established and was more solid that than of Chang’an, the key issue was that the be it their numbers or strength, the mutated sea beasts far surpassed their land-bound counterparts.

Polaris Biotech’s surveillance had already identified several terrifying beast kings lurking beneath the waves—creatures that could never, under any circumstance, be provoked.

If they were roused into a full-scale tide and surged toward Shen City, there would be no stopping them.

It would be a destructive calamity!

The upper echelons had already been agonizing over how to handle the sea beast crisis, yet now the Wang Family of Longevity Genetics had decided to deliberately provoke them. If that wasn’t madness, what was?

”Talking about it won’t help now,” Ji Yuzhen said grimly, shaking her head. ”Rourou, call Mr. Lu.”

She was certain that the reason Wang Zhenyun had resorted to such insanity could be traced to one man—Lu Yuan.
