Chapter 199 – 146: The Third Transcendent Profession

Rein bolted the storeroom door, and then, he began to leaf through the black-covered journal of insights Abel had given him.

However, after reading a few pages, Rein realized that the experiences Abel had recorded were all about the production of ordinary potions. Although there was a certain reference value, the difference was still significant when compared to the mutant growth potion he was about to try making.

Especially the last step.

After some thought, Rein put down the book and began to pace the storeroom in contemplation.

“Considering my past experience in making nutrient meals, if I can successfully make the mutant growth potion, the profession level of Beast Tamers should receive a substantial boost,” he mused.

“And then, the process of using the mutant growth potion to feed the Spirit Corgi ‘Cookie’ will bring a significant amount of experience as well.”

“So, regardless of how effective this potion is, it’s still necessary for me.”

“But the mutant growth potion seems to be very different from the ordinary potions that Abel made, should I start with making ordinary potions first?”

…

At this thought, Rein suddenly smiled.

“Let’s not even talk about whether making ordinary potions could improve the success rate of the mutant growth potion—I almost forgot, I have a cheat…”

Right away, Rein decided to give it a try firsthand.

However, Rein had never made a potion before, so he inevitably felt some trepidation.

But seeing the ten neatly laid-out portions of raw materials on the table, Rein quickly calmed down again.

“With so many portions, I should be able to succeed with at least one!”

“As long as I succeed once, there shouldn’t be many issues afterwards.”

“Who let us have cheats! Once learned, it won’t regress but only improve with the increase of experience.”

….

Still, before making the attempt, Rein carefully reviewed the formula and production process of the mutant growth potion recorded in the ‘Beast Taming Journal’ once more:

“One ounce of Gold Marigold, one pair of wings from a Nightwalker Vampire Bat, two claws of a Carrion Wolf… First step, grind the Gold Marigold…”

After contemplating for a while, Rein began the first step of making the mutant growth potion—preparing the Gold Marigold solution.

This step required him to grind one ounce of Gold Marigold into powder and then mix it with distilled water, dilute and filter it to obtain the Gold Marigold solution. The whole process was not difficult, and Rein measured out the specified amount of Gold Marigold and started pounding it into powder with a wooden pestle…

Minutes later, looking at the pale golden liquid in the transparent test tube, a slight smile appeared on Rein’s lips.

Perhaps because of the enhancement of his bodily constitution, especially the increase in his spiritual power, Rein managed to successfully prepare the Gold Marigold solution in one go quite easily.

As the saying goes, a good start is the first step towards success.

This immediately boosted Rein’s confidence immensely!

The second step required drying the wings of the Nightwalker Vampire Bat and grinding them into powder…

This process became exceptionally simple for Rein who possessed level 2 witchcraft ‘Scorching Touch.’

If it were an ordinary person, they would need to dry the wings slowly over candle flame, which is not only slow but also extremely draining and prone to charring.

But for Rein, after he executed his witchcraft ‘Scorching Touch’ and controlled the distance and the output of spiritual power, it only took a few seconds to complete this second step.

And furthermore…

The result was excellent too!

Thinking it over, Rein felt that if it were an ordinary person with average spiritual power, even if they could complete this second step, they would likely be very exhausted by then and probably need to rest before continuing with the subsequent steps.

But he did not need to.

The final third step was to evenly sprinkle the Gold Marigold solution and the Vampire Bat wing powder on the Carrion Wolf claws, and at the same time, chant a spell to mobilize the mysterious energy particles in the surroundings to exert a certain influence on them.

Clearly, this last step could only be completed by a Wizard Apprentice or other occupations capable of controlling mysterious energy particles to some extent.

This is why the experiences in making ordinary potions recorded in Abel’s journal were not much help in making the mutant growth potion.

Rein, following the third step’s procedure, first placed a pair of Carrion Wolf claws into a beaker, then evenly sprinkled the Gold Marigold solution and Vampire Bat wing powder on top of them.

Next, Rein chanted the spell recorded in Akkadian in the ‘Beast Taming Journal’ in a low voice:

“(In Akkadian) Spirits of fire, who are wild and scorching, and Spirits of nature, frolicsome and warm, heed my call…”

Suddenly, the two specific types of mysterious energy particles began to converge towards the Carrion Wolf claws in the beaker under the combined drive of Rein’s spell and spiritual power, exerting a magical influence on them.

And the Carrion Wolf claws gradually began to undergo a peculiar change.

However…

After just two or three seconds, Rein sensed something was amiss!

Because for this third step, according to the instructions in the ‘Beast Taming Journal,’ Rein needed to manipulate two types of mysterious energy particles.

One was the flame energy particle, which was not difficult for Rein to manipulate, but the other, a green energy particle, Rein found extremely challenging to handle!

“Sssss~~~”

A burning smell wafted through the air and the Carrion Wolf claws melted instantaneously into a pool of pitch-black, mud-like substance.

The first attempt had failed!

Twelve Gold Coins’ worth of raw materials went down the drain…

Rein watched silently as this unfolded, pondering the problem and… solutions.

However, Rein was not discouraged.

On the contrary, being able to reach the third step on his first attempt made Rein eager to try a second time!

A few minutes later, Rein decided to make another attempt.

…

“Sizzle~~~”

Once again, the smell of burning wafted through the air, and the second batch of raw materials was ruined!

In addition, trying twice in a row made Rein feel a bit mentally exhausted.

After all, the potion-making process required his full attention, plus the casting of the witchcraft “Scorching Touch.”

After some thought, Rein decided to try adding a point to his Spirit Attribute.

After all, increasing spirit was sure to improve his level of control over the mysterious energy particles around him, but what he wasn’t sure about was whether it would achieve the desired effect.

Rein flipped his Profession Panel to the first page—the Attribute page. As the remaining attribute points went from 2→1, his Spirit also went from 17 points→18 points.

Instantly, a warm current flowed from his heart and spread throughout his body.

Rein immediately felt his mind become clearer, and the mental fatigue he had just felt disappeared in an instant!

In addition, Rein also felt a distinct difference.

It seemed…

18 points of spiritual power was some kind of threshold, and now that he had crossed it, the various mysterious energy particles around him seemed more active than before in his perception.

Your next chapter is on Novgo

But on second thought, Rein realized that it wasn’t the energy particles that had become more active, but rather his own senses had become sharper.

Moreover, the energy particles of fire still felt the clearest to Rein.

Instead of rushing into the third attempt at making the Mutation Growth Potion, Rein chose to first practice the basic meditation method.

Indeed, after the increase in spiritual power, Rein successfully visualized fourteen Will runes in one go, and still had a bit of energy left over.

Previously, with 15 points of spiritual power, he was able to visualize ten Will runes at once, showing significant progress.

According to the introduction in the basic meditation method, if one could visualize sixteen Will runes in one go, they would step into the second stage, also known as a level two Wizard Apprentice.

And Rein was just one step away from this!

Furthermore, Rein discovered that while previously he could only manipulate fire energy particles, he could now slightly control other types of energy particles as well.

Clearly, this also meant that Rein’s chances of successfully making the third step of the Mutation Growth Potion had greatly increased.

Calming the excitement in his heart, Rein tried again.

The first step…

…

By the third step, as Rein recited the spell once more, this time the green energy particles finally gathered onto the carcass wolf’s claws in accordance with Rein’s guidance, along with the fire energy particles…

It worked!

Rein’s eyes instantly lit up!

In the beaker, there was now a grey-green liquid, and no trace was left of the carcass wolf’s claws, the black powder from the nocturnal vampire bat, or the pale golden liquid from the gold sunflower.

Suddenly, system notifications chimed:

[Ding! It has been detected that the host has completed the production of the secret potion ‘Mutation Growth Potion’ and has triggered the job change to Beast Tamer (Transcendent)!]

[Conditions for promotion to Beast Tamer are: first, a Dog Trainer or Pharmacist of lv3 or above; second, spiritual power of 12 points or above; third, ownership of one or more wild beasts as a care subject…. Current conditions met, do you wish to change jobs to Beast Tamer (Transcendent)!]

[Note: After changing jobs to Beast Tamer (Transcendent), the Dog Trainer’s Profession Panel will be overridden.]

Huh! A new Transcendent profession!

However, what Rein didn’t quite understand was why, after making the Mutation Growth Potion, a Pharmacist job, which would be a more logical trigger, wasn’t activated. Why did it trigger the Transcendent job of a Beast Tamer?

Therefore, with his questions in mind, Rein looked closely at the system’s description again.

‘Secret potion’?

Rein caught the keyword!

Upon further reflection, Rein started to understand.

Normal potion production would not involve the third step, which required chanting a spell and using spiritual power to manipulate mysterious energy particles.

Clearly, the Mutation Growth Potion Rein had produced was not an ordinary potion, but a special kind of potion known as a ‘secret potion’.

Hence, this also explained why it didn’t trigger the regular profession of ‘Pharmacist’.

Secondly, it might be because of his prerequisite profession of Dog Trainer.

This was already reflected in ‘prerequisite condition one’.

Last, it was probably because the Mutation Growth Potion itself was intended to be used for strengthening animals.

Thus, the combination of these factors led to the triggering of the job change to Beast Tamer (Transcendent).

Facing this job change, Rein pondered for a moment and then chose yes without hesitation!

[Ding! Job change successful!]

[Congratulations on successfully changing your job to Beast Tamer (Transcendent)! Agility +1, Spirit +1! You have obtained the core skills of Beast Tamer (Transcendent): Beast Affinity lv1 (Passive), Beast’s Eye (Active).]
