Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys

Chapter 163 – 134: Won’t This Cause Reckless Slaughter?

Next, Rein began to contemplate the witchcraft model of “Scorching Touch” as recorded.

A witchcraft model, in a nutshell, is a combination of several Will runes.

Simply put, if each Will rune is likened to the English letters ‘abcd’, then the witchcraft model would be a specific word such as ‘abandon’.

Of course, Will runes are three-dimensional structures in space, not as simple as English letters.

But that’s the idea.

On the other hand, there are a total of twenty-four Will runes, not much different from the twenty-six letters in the English alphabet.

This is also why one needs to learn meditation techniques before studying witchcraft.

Closing his eyes and fully concentrating on his perceptions, Rein slowly began to sense the various mysterious energy particles in the space around him.

It seemed to be an enhancement of spiritual power, or perhaps the experience from last time, this time Rein sensed and guided the fiery and bright fire elemental energy particles much faster than before.

However, corresponding to guiding the fire elemental energy particles, visualizing the complete witchcraft model of “Scorching Touch” was quite challenging.

After failing seven or eight times consecutively, finally, Rein succeeded once!

A faint red glow softly lit up in front of Rein’s palm, hardly noticeable unless looked at closely.

Unfortunately, this effect lasted only a few seconds before the red glow vanished without a trace.

But Rein was not discouraged, rather he was thrilled.

Because he had actually succeeded just now. “Scorching Touch” was not only a contact-based witchcraft, but also, a channeling type of witchcraft.

If anything unexpected occurred during the channeling process, it would be terminated or interrupted.

Meanwhile, below the Wizard Apprentice (Transcendent) panel, which previously had only one icon for basic meditation, now on top of that, a brand-new icon had appeared.

The icon’s border briefly lit up, and on the center, there was an image of an open palm with a flicker of flame in front of it.

Rein focused on the new icon, and saw a line of small text below it.

Scorching Touch lv1 (1/100)

Scorching Touch lv1 effect: Consumes a certain amount of spiritual power to manipulate nearby fire elemental energy particles using a specific witchcraft model, producing high-temperature damage within a certain range in front of the host’s palm.

(Note: Casting time 3 seconds, power proportional to duration and host’s spiritual power, the closer the contact distance, the greater the power. Current effective lethal distance: 0~0.5 meters.)

Yay! It worked!

Rein’s face lit up with joy.

He immediately began testing its power.

Rein first positioned his right palm about 30 centimeters above a wooden table, then he initiated “Scorching Touch”, quickly seeing a faint red glow flicker in his palm.

A wave of heat began to radiate from the center of his palm.

After two or three seconds, Rein noticed that the natural wood color of the tabletop seemed to show some slight signs of charring.

This made him exclaim in astonishment, “This power, not bad at all!”

Following this, Rein lowered the height of his palm to 10 centimeters.

After reducing the distance between his palm and the tabletop by 20 centimeters, the speed of blackening significantly increased.

At this point, a faint black handprint almost visibly appeared on the wooden table.

Rein thought for a moment, then pressed his right palm directly onto the table.

Instantly, the charred area, with Rein’s palm as the center, rapidly spread outward, quickly forming a black circle as big as the bottom of a basin.

Waves of pungent burnt odor also emerged from the tabletop.

At this point, Rein quickly lifted his right palm from the tabletop, interrupting the newly learned witchcraft “Scorching Touch”.

Looking at the circular charred pattern on the table, Rein couldn’t help but feel amazed and delighted! Your next read is at m

“Not bad at all! The temperature must’ve reached three to five hundred degrees! The wood surface has carbonized.”

“It’s a pity there’s no very accurate way to measure the temperature, can only roughly guess now.”

“However, compared to what’s described in the books, for use in forging, there’s clearly a big gap.”

“After all, the melting point of bronze is nearly a thousand degrees, and for iron, it’s about fifteen hundred degrees.”

Rein pondered for a while and muttered to himself.

The successful mastery of “Scorching Touch” uplifted Rein’s spirits, and he tried the newly mastered witchcraft several more times in a row.

Instantly, round charred marks were left on the room’s walls and on the back of chairs!

After several attempts, Rein still couldn’t quite hide his excitement.

However, he also felt a slight unease in his brain, a drowsy sensation, a kind of mental fatigue.

Rein knew this must be due to excessive consumption of spiritual power.

So, Rein quickly stopped and rested for a moment.

“Knock, knock, knock!”

“Rein, are you there?” It was the voice of his mother, Emma.

“I’m here!”

As Emma opened the door, she looked around with a puzzled expression, her nostrils flaring slightly, and she suspiciously asked Rein:

“Rein, are you roasting something?”

“What’s that burnt smell? It’s all the way downstairs,”

“Ah?”

At that moment, Rein realized that he had been too focused on experimenting with the “Scorching Touch” witchcraft, and now, his own room was filled with a slightly acrid smell of firewood.

“No! It might have been a candle accidentally lighting the wood,” Rein hurriedly denied.

Mother Emma mumbled a few words, obviously wanting to say more.

Because as soon as she opened the door, she saw a round, smoking, charred pattern on the wall.

Is this the area a candle could burn?

Are you kidding me?

But thinking of her son Rein’s might when slaying enemies, Emma suppressed her concerns, swallowing the words that had reached the tip of her tongue.

“The child is grown, let him have his own secrets,” Emma thought to herself.

“Well…okay then! Remember to ventilate more,” mother Emma said before closing the door again.

“Yes, Mother!” Rein said, touching his head awkwardly.

Although Mother Emma had witnessed his strength, Rein still did not want his family to know about his studies in witchcraft right away.

After all, the Knight’s Transcendent path is highly acceptable in the eyes of ordinary people.

But Wizards are different, their various mysterious witchcraft, and many evil and frightening images of Wizards, still inspire fear among ordinary people through the songs of Wandering Bards.

So, Rein thought, in front of his family, he still needed to maintain the grand professional image of a Knight.

Thinking of the Knight profession, Rein was reminded of the weapon most loyal to a Knight or warrior—

Rein placed the greatsword wrapped in sheepskin on the table, unfolded the sheepskin, lifted the ‘Glimmering Greatsword’, and inspected it carefully.

Although the addition of star metal had increased the hardness of the greatsword several times over, the strength of his enemies also improved day by day, so now, there were many tiny nicks on the blade of the greatsword.

The blade needed to be re-polished.

Rein took out a small sharpening stone, dropped a few drops of oil on it, and began sharpening seriously.

After sharpening, he laid the greatsword flat and observed it from different angles. Confirming that there weren’t any serious issues with the blade’s curvature or nicks, Rein then wrapped the ‘Glimmering Greatsword’ back in sheepskin and set it aside.

Next, Rein flipped to the first page of the panel system — the attribute page, and started examining it closely.

Name: Rein Carlan

Profession: Wizard Apprentice (Transcendent) lv4 (124/1000)/Knight (Transcendent) lv3 (84/500)/Blacksmith lv3 (0/500)/Dog Trainer lv3(1/500)

Constitution: 18

Strength: 15

Agility: 15

Spirit: 16

Remaining attribute points: 3

Remaining Skill Points: 4

Looking at the numbers 3 and 4 at the bottom, Rein’s lips curved into a smile.

It’s not easy, rare to be a ‘big spender’!

Soon, Rein began to ponder the specifics of allocating the points.

First, regarding attribute points, adding points to Strength would directly increase Rein’s combat power, especially since his Transcendent trait ‘Huge Strength lv2’ as well as the core skill ‘Strength Burst’, both enhance his basic strength.

If added to Constitution, it would extend the duration of bursts and improve resistance against various abnormal statuses, which is also very significant.

Agility is equally important.

But currently, Rein doesn’t have any abilities or skills that significantly boost Agility, so if he were to allocate points, it could be postponed, to be decided based on the situation at that time.

As for Spirit, in the short term, it actually wouldn’t bring an immediately noticeable improvement in Rein’s strength.

If it is not very urgent, Rein could slowly increase it through the practice of basic meditation.

After much thought, Rein still hadn’t decided, so he decided to not allocate the attribute points just yet.

After all, keeping them for recovery during battle is also akin to a miracle!

Then, Rein focused his attention on the Skill Points.

Regarding Skill Points, the direction of allocation could either be towards the Knight (Transcendent) panel or the Wizard Apprentice (Transcendent) panel.

First, let’s look at the Wizard Apprentice (Transcendent) panel with only two skills.

If he added points to basic meditation, the benefit would likely be a faster increase in Spirit Attribute.

While adding points to ‘Scorching Touch’ would bring multiple benefits, including enhancing the damage effect of the witchcraft and using it for forging to elevate the Blacksmith’s Profession Level.

However, it is still unclear how much the increase would be, whether it would reach lv2 or lv3 to smelt bronze, or even iron ingots.

But as an entry-level touch-based witchcraft, it can only damage enemies within a very close range, which is a significant limitation.

Honestly, the attack range of ‘Scorching Touch’ might not even be wider than that of the Dual-Handed Greatsword!

This is why Rein hesitated.

If it were a powerful long-range attack witchcraft like the ‘Fireball Technique’, Rein would certainly not hesitate to enter continuous allocation mode!

“Bang bang bang!”

Fireball machine gun!

Just thinking about it is exhilarating!

Wouldn’t this cause chaos?

Rein couldn’t help but envision it.
