Chapter 160 – 131: Just Let Him Live a Little Longer! (Two-in-One Mega Chapter)_4

After encountering the Messenger sent by Knight Lloyd, the news nearly made Hamilton black out!

In his heart, on one hand, he was worried that Rein might have encountered misfortune; on the other hand, with such a serious security incident occurring in Flashgold Town, he was inevitably going to be held accountable, and perhaps, he might even be stripped of his noble title.

At that moment, he immediately glanced at Viscount Hamadi, the chief of public security of the County Town, but from the other’s shocked expression, Hamilton couldn’t instantly determine whether the chief genuinely didn’t know or was deliberately concealing something!

However, when he had hastened to Flashgold Town, the situation took a dramatic turn!

He hadn’t expected that he, who was sure to be held accountable, might actually turn misfortune into a blessing!

‘Flashgold Town suffered a sudden assault by Cultists, Sheriff Hamilton rushed to the scene on horseback, deserted his post, resulting in heavy casualties among the residents of Flashgold Town!’

“Under the command of Sheriff Hamilton, Flashgold Town feigned weakness to lure the enemy into the jar, completely annihilating a large group of Cultists led by four Transcendents. Although there were some casualties, it severely dealt a blow to the arrogant spirit of the Cult!”

The disparity between these two official reports is too significant to detail!

And the key person in all this was Rein!

“Um… Lord Hamilton, it was indeed I who killed them. Of course, I couldn’t have done it without the help of my fellow Night Watchmen!” Rein said, pointing to Matteo and others nearby.

This made Matteo and the other Night Watchmen feel as sweet as if they had tasted honey!

Look! This is what a good superior in the Dragan Empire looks like!

Never claiming credit for himself!

Instead, he even shared the credit with them!

“Also, it’s about my Giant Bear Sword Technique, I suddenly had a bit of an epiphany, seemed to have reached a different level.” Of course, Rein would not reveal his true strength.

He chose what he could reveal and spoke about it a little.

Yet, Rein was not lying, because what he spoke was indeed the outright truth.

Ever since the Giant Bear Sword Technique reached level 6, he sensed a clear difference compared to before.

Upon hearing this, Hamilton vaguely guessed something, could it be…

This couldn’t help but make him raise an eyebrow, curiously speaking, “Oh? Rein, why don’t you demonstrate it for me now.”

“Sure!”

Rein was also eager to showcase the improvement in his swordsmanship.

As for whether he could convince everyone that he relied on his swordsmanship talent to deal with those four Transcendent Cultists, that was a different matter. Explore new worlds at m

But at the very least, it would give them a reason, a lead to believe it was possible for him to have killed those four.

Otherwise, letting them speculate wildly or even sending someone to secretly observe or monitor him afterward would be too passive!

Upon hearing that Rein wanted to showcase his swordsmanship, whether it was Viscount Hamadi, Baron Alonso, or nobles big and small like Lloyd and Perez, all turned their attention to him.

And the priests and knights who initially intended to enter the church to inspect the situation also stopped in their tracks, stood still, and turned around to watch.

After all, having learned that three of the Cultists and one Black Flame Apostle were killed by this young Knight Rein, nearly everyone’s curiosity was piqued!

Furthermore, the beautiful Baroness Crowley, along with Jenny, gracefully descended from the carriage.

Everyone almost formed a large circle, intently watching Rein as he drew the Glimmering Greatsword.

“Ah! It’s a lumistone weapon!” Priest Rudolph exclaimed in a low voice.

He hadn’t foreseen that this young man would keep surprising him one after another.

A lumistone weapon is not so easy to come by, one must either purchase it at a high price from an auction or rely on personal fortune.

Of course, the church has sacred power weapons, which can achieve the same effect as a lumistone weapon, thus there is no need to spend money on lumistone weapons.

Seeing so many people gathering to watch, Rein felt no nervousness whatsoever.

After all, he was exactly planning to show off his strength, and revealing the ‘tip of the iceberg’ at this moment was just right!

And the Giant Bear Sword Technique was a very good part of that iceberg.

Rein positioned himself at the center of the area, assumed the initial stance of the Giant Bear Sword Technique…

—————–

Fifteen minutes earlier.

East side of Flashgold Town.

On the side of the Black Sail pirates, Phil, carrying an exaggeratedly large bow, pondered for a moment before turning to a bearded pirate beside him and said, “Andre, send a couple of sharp ones into the town for reconnaissance!”

“Yes, boss!” the bearded man said in a deep, resonant voice.

Clearly, having seventy to eighty rough men who licked blood off their blades turn around and leave without firing a shot was very damaging to morale, even if the order was given by Phil Kraz, the deputy leader of the Black Sail pirates.

So, Phil decided to send a few men to scout the town first to see what the situation was like.

If the defense forces of Flashgold Town were weak, he planned to proceed with the raid, signal or no signal!

Otherwise, his subordinates would definitely have complaints, and that would make them difficult to lead in the future.

After all, most pirates, who had ‘hung their heads on their belts,’ would follow whoever could lead them to wealth.

Using brute force was the last resort, as that might cause his men to defect to other pirate groups.

Soon, two relatively short pirates, who looked like ordinary citizens after a bit of dressing up, were chosen by the bearded man.

The two pirates quickly headed towards Flashgold Town to carry out their reconnaissance mission.

Seven or eight minutes later, the two pirate scouts arrived inside Flashgold Town.

Initially, hearing the intermittent cries within the town, the two pirates’ eyes lit up with wild joy.

Hey!

This seemed like it had just been attacked!

Moreover, there didn’t seem to be much defense on the streets, at least they didn’t see many security officers in sight.

After sneaking around a bit, the two planned to head back and report immediately.

However, just as they were turning to leave, they suddenly heard a flurry of hoofbeats and felt a slight tremor underfoot.

The two immediately turned around and saw at the end of the street, on the western side of Flashgold Town, a large group of cavalry charging towards the town.

The sharp-eyed duo instantly noticed many knights in full plate armor in the troop, and even saw some uniquely adorned church paladins.

In an instant, cold sweat broke out on their foreheads.

God damn it, if the enemy had arrived just a minute later, they would have reported back that ‘the defense is weak, attack is feasible.’

After that, they didn’t know how many of their pirate group would survive, but these two were definitely not going to make it!

Because even if they did survive, Phil was likely to kill them.

“Let’s go! Hurry and report back! It’s a trap!”

“Damn it, no wonder those bastards didn’t send any signal; they had already run away!”

The two pirate scouts, while complaining, hurried back to their hidden valley.

After hearing their description, the Black Sail pirates also felt a chill down their spine—it was a trap indeed!

At the same time, they realized that today’s raid was probably not going to happen.

Even though they were ready to risk their lives, they weren’t mindless. Clearly, the enemy was just waiting for them to fall into their trap; they weren’t going to foolishly charge forward.

Such foolhardy pirates had long since died out!

“Retreat!” Phil’s eyes twinkled, and after a brief moment of thought, he raised his arm and waved, signaling his men to retreat.

He and those two scouts who were responsible for gathering information thought differently.

Phil actually thought the Black Flame Cult was quite reliable. Just look, they didn’t betray them! Knowing it was futile, they didn’t recklessly fire off signal rockets to get the Black Sail pirates killed.

Yeah, they could continue to work with the Black Flame Cult in the future.

But…

The little favor he’d promised to Viscount Norman couldn’t be fulfilled this time.

Well, let that junior knight level brat live a bit longer.

Lucky fellow!
