Chapter 179 – 141: Left or Right? (Two-in-One Large Chapter)

Lord Reine looked around and noticed that in front of the desks of these few staff members, there were indeed wooden pencil-box-sized standing desk signs, respectively labeled “Non-commissioned Officer Exchange”, “Junior Officer Exchange”, and one semi-enclosed window labeled “Senior Officer Exchange”.

At the “Non-commissioned Officer Exchange” window, there were two or three people standing, and in front of the “Junior Officer Exchange” window, there was no one at all.

Lord Reine did not hesitate; he walked straight to the Junior Officer Exchange window.

The female staff member at the window, seeing the clearly young Lord Reine approaching, was taken aback at first, but still stood up with respect to greet him, “My lord, please show your credentials.”

Lord Reine handed over the badge representing his position as the Deputy Sheriff of Flashgold Town to the ponytailed girl.

“Please wait a moment.”

After the ponytailed civilian girl had taken the badge presented by Lord Reine, she began to check it against the register on the desk.

Soon, the surprised look on the young female staff member’s face intensified as she said, “Lord Reine, hello, you have a total of 1,489 Merit Points.”

“This is your exchange book, you may exchange for any item listed in here.”

The other party handed Lord Reine a booklet the size of an A4 paper and as thick as a fingernail cover.

Oh?

This booklet was much larger and thicker than before.

After Lord Reine took it, he saw that the cover of the thick booklet was inscribed with several large characters: “Imperial Security and Guards Troop Merit Points Exchange Book (Junior Officer)”.

Seeing the two words “Junior Officer” at the end, Lord Reine couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Indeed, my approach was correct; by relying on the empire, as long as my rank steadily increases, the resources I can obtain will continue to grow.”

The previous booklet was for “Non-commissioned Officer,” naturally, there weren’t many items that could be exchanged, and secrecy wasn’t needed; it could be exchanged at the military supplies officer in Flashgold Town.

But it was different at the Junior Officer level; there were many more items that could be exchanged, and only at the County Town military supply office.

Upon opening the booklet, Lord Reine found that the major categories were not much different from the “Non-commissioned Officer” booklet, but the content in the detailed items had become much more abundant.

For instance, in the category of breathing techniques that could be exchanged, Lord Reine was very impressed that in the “Non-commissioned Officer” level booklet, there was only the Military Breathing Method.

But in the “Junior Officer” level booklet, there were many more breathing techniques available for exchange, amounting to seven or eight kinds.

However, all naturally were quite valuable; merely for breathing techniques, the Merit Points needed for exchange started at a thousand.

For example, the Giant Bear Breathing Technique practiced by Lord Reine himself and others that he had heard of before like “Shadow Panther Breathing Technique”, “Running Wolf Breathing Technique”, and so on, were all available here.

Furthermore, even the specific secret medicines required for practicing certain breathing techniques were available for exchange.

For instance, the Black Resin Oil corresponding to Lord Reine’s Giant Bear Breathing Technique was available in the “Junior Officer” booklet.

This made Lord Reine marvel while simultaneously delighting him.

Oh?

And there was refined Black Resin Oil?

Lord Reine squinted his eyes; he saw another type of secret medicine that complemented the Giant Bear Breathing Technique.

But it had two extra words, “refined”; furthermore, the price for exchange was more expensive than the Black Resin Oil.

Ordinary Black Resin Oil would exchange for thirty Merit Points a bottle, which could roughly last for a month’s use.

However, the price for refined Black Resin Oil was one hundred Merit Points per bottle.

Reading the description, Lord Reine suddenly realized!

The refined Black Resin Oil was a highly concentrated mixture of Black Resin Oil with other special medicines, suitable for knights formally practicing the Giant Bear Breathing Technique.

Conversely, the ordinary Black Resin Oil was suited for those below the level of knights.

No wonder he had felt that the effect of Black Resin Oil was weakening recently and thought about increasing the dosage; the key issue lay here.

After stepping into Transcendence, the corresponding secret medicines also needed to be updated, it’s just that refined Black Resin Oil was much more expensive.

As for Lady Creya, since she never thought that she would step into Transcendence so quickly, she had never mentioned this aspect of things. About this point, Lord Reine pondered briefly and came to understand.

Since there was refined Black Resin Oil, it was natural to buy two bottles to be used in conjunction with practicing the Giant Bear Breathing Technique.

“Two bottles of refined Black Resin Oil,” Lord Reine told the ponytailed civilian girl.

“Alright, Lord Reine, it has been noted down for you; do you have any other needs for exchange?” the girl asked respectfully.

Lord Reine nodded and said, “Yes.”

His main reason for coming today was to check if there were any high-end knight plate armors available.

Thus, quite naturally, Lord Reine turned the pages to the section on armor and defensive gear.

There were all kinds of armors of different uses and materials crafted before his eyes.

After ruling out those like leather armor and chain mail, what remained were knight plate armors.

After looking for a while, Lord Reine had a fairly clear understanding of the knight plate armors.

The ordinary knight plate armor sets were cheap, had stock, and could be taken immediately. However, if they were crafted from rare metals, especially those customized knight plate armors, not only was the customization costly, the production period was also long.

Moreover, the regular maintenance costs were also a considerable expense.

And if they got damaged during battle, the cost to repair them could buy several sets of ordinary knight plate armors.

However, if one wasn’t short of money, then all the aforementioned drawbacks weren’t really drawbacks.

These knight armors crafted from special materials were naturally expensive for a good reason, either they had superior defensive power or could resist special damages like fire, acid, etc.
