The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Who Doesn’t Have Connections_1

”When can you come to Beijing, I’ve bought an apartment for you, you can live there when you study in the future.”

The restaurant manager was serving dishes for the two and involuntarily glanced at Nathalie Quinlan’s face upon hearing this.

This girl was quite pretty; could it be that their relationship was of that nature?

The age difference was too great, though.

But with Mr. Yapiter’s status, anything was possible.

After all, Mr. Yapiter was even more powerful than the Mayor, the top official at the Provincial Office.

In ancient times, he would have been considered a grand regional governor.

Nathalie Quinlan poured herself a cup of buckwheat tea, took a sip, and said, ”No need, I have a house in Beijing.”

It was bought for her by Mrs. Ingram.

About a dozen or so, if you include everything.

There was the large duplex near the first ring, and the detached villas near the third ring’s park; it seemed there was even a commercial property bought in her name on Sunny Road.

”You have a house in Beijing?”

Owen Yapiter was quite surprised; he hadn’t expected her to have a house in Beijing. Then he thought, Nathalie Quinlan was highly skilled in medical expertise, and many people sought her help. There were all types who gave cars and houses; there would always be someone who could afford to pay.

He didn’t think too much about it and changed the subject, ”It doesn’t matter, the apartment I bought for you is a token of my regard. You can stay there when you have time, or don’t bother if you’re busy. It’ll be there, and when you’re older you can sell it to buy a bigger one if you like.”

The sea bass was just served.

The two chatted for a while longer.

Finally, Owen Yapiter remembered to ask, ”By the way, how come you have the time to have dinner with me this time?”

In the past when he came to McKinney and wanted to invite her for a meal, the girl was too busy and often stood him up.

This was the first time she had taken the initiative to invite him for dinner.

He was quite curious why she had asked him out.

”I want to ask a favor of you.” Nathalie Quinlan recounted Jane Bailey’s situation and mentioned the Tucker Family’s involvement, her brow furrowing as she said, ”They’ve found connections and want to get her released.”

Owen Yapiter listened and understood, then casually said, ”So it’s about that. Don’t worry, leave it to me. That girl has already committed a crime, and it’s not something a bit of public opinion can change. I guarantee I’ll sort it out for your friend.”

Nathalie Quinlan knew his influence; with him stepping in, the situation wouldn’t be turned upside down again.

She couldn’t help but feel relieved. She didn’t like being indebted to people, and from her bag, she took out a small vial and handed it to him.

”This is to show my thanks.”

Owen Yapiter knew she made a certain kind of Small Pill that sold well on the Black Market, with many people willing to spend a fortune despite not being guaranteed to get their hands on it.

He took a quick glance and saw at least seven or eight pills in the bottle.

The girl treated these pills like candy.

Giving him so much.

He didn’t accept it and returned the item to Nathalie Quinlan, his gaze seemingly penetrating through her to another person: ”You remind me of someone I used to know. She had the same character as you—couldn’t owe anyone anything, which resulted in many people owing her favors. If she were still alive...”

If she were still alive, his daughter would be about the girl’s age.

Such a pity...

”I don’t want your thank you gift. If you really want to thank me, just find the time to join this old man for a meal now and then. That will be more than enough.”

No matter how she tried to give it to him, he wouldn’t accept it. Nathalie Quinlan, with her fair face earnestly replied, ”...as long as I have time.”

She wouldn’t casually make promises, but once she did, she would remember them and strive to fulfill them.

”Alright, I’ll wait until you have the time to invite you,” Owen Yapiter, understanding her temperament, immediately brightened up and kept urging the restaurant manager to serve her more dishes, insisting she should eat more.

He went on about how she had lost weight and needed to take good care of herself, saying girls shouldn’t be too thin and the like.

After the meal was finished, Owen Yapiter, who was advanced in years, appeared fatigued after a bit of conversation and retired to his hotel room for rest.

Nathalie Quinlan checked the time; it was 8:30.

The child should have arrived by now.

She sent a message to the child, letting them know she was ready to come out.

Casually, she gathered her belongings and left the restaurant, heading downstairs.
