Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 772: 772 went back to her mother’s home

In fact, long before Han Yan arrived, there had already been many rumors circulating in the Capital. The truth or falsehood of these rumors was unknown to anyone, and he hadn’t taken them to heart. As long as Han Yan didn’t spread them further, he was even less worried.

”Also, thank you for just now,” Han Yan said to Mu Yunshui.

”You’re too polite, Han Yan. I just couldn’t stand Mu Chengxuan’s arrogance, and besides, as descendants of the Mu Family, why should we fight to the death?” Mu Yunshui said, shaking his head.

Hearing this, Han Yan’s impression of him improved again. He remembered the last time Mu Yunshui accepted a favor from the Great Elder to come to Heishi City, initially with the intention of accusing Mu Rui’an’s family of wrongdoing. However, as soon as Zhao Yuanji and the others appeared, he immediately turned his hostile intentions elsewhere. Despite underestimating his enemy and being heavily injured by a palm strike from Zhao Yuanji, it still showed his loyalty to the Zong Family.

As for Mu Yuanshui begging for mercy from Zhao Yuanji after being seriously injured, Han Yan wasn’t surprised. To outsiders, the Zong Family and Branch Family of various aristocratic families seemed as close as branches on the same tree, but in reality, including the Mu Family, the Zong Family and Branch Family weren’t that close. Like the Mu Family in Heishi City, they always considered Mu Rui’an’s family outsiders, and disciples of the Zong Family seldom regarded the Branch Family highly.

Moreover, many disciples of the Zong Family were pampered and had never been through real life-and-death trials. To expect them to risk their lives for the Branch Family was an impossibility.

Though Mu Yuanshui was one of the nine Tributors of his family, the position itself was facilitated by his father and master. Both in terms of strength and courage, he was not as his title suggested, so such behavior was hardly surprising. If anything, probably only individuals like Mu Zexian, who had been abandoned by the Mu Family early on, would take his title of Ninth Tributor seriously.

No one is without flaws. Having lived two lifetimes, Han Yan had seen much of the world’s joys and sorrows, warmth and coldness, making his heart much more open-minded than the average person.

”By the way, how is Mu Ziping?” Han Yan asked.

”Ah, don’t mention it. Since he returned to the Capital, he’s been shutting himself in all day. The shock he received in Heishi City was too great; he can’t seem to get it over it, no matter how much I try to persuade him. Han Yan, if he provokes you again next time, I hope you can be merciful,” Mu Yunshui said helplessly.

Distressed by the emotional roller coaster caused by a few of Han Yan’s jokes, Mu Yunshui felt a lot closer to Han Yan, which is why he made such a request.

Perhaps others were not very clear about Han Yan’s strength, but he was only too aware. In the entire Mu Family, only the family of the Third Elder was qualified to contend with him; others, including Mu Ziping, simply lacked the capability.

”As long as he doesn’t go too far, I naturally won’t make things difficult for him,” Han Yan promised.

Although Mu Ziping’s father fought against Mu Rui’an for the position of Branch Family Head years ago and suffered a disgraceful defeat, even attempting a sneaky attack from behind but ultimately failing and becoming seriously injured himself, unable to improve his cultivation for life, he had received the punishment he deserved.

Mu Ziping’s trip to Heishi City was also unsuccessful. Not only was he seriously injured, his True Water Sword was also destroyed by Mu Hanfeng, which was punishment enough.

It must be said, this family was quite unfortunate, vexing the wrong family—Mu Rui’an’s family. As long as he didn’t overstep, Han Yan certainly wouldn’t hold a grudge against him.

During their conversation, the two had already arrived at Mu Beichen’s residence.

Uncle Yun was already waiting at the gate, smiling gently as he saw Han Yan.

Mu Yunshui then took his leave, while Han Yan followed Uncle Yun to see his grandfather.

”Han Yan, you’ve arrived.” Upon seeing Mu Hanyan, Mu Beichen’s face immediately revealed a warm smile, his eyes also filled with affection.

”Isn’t Grandmother here?” Mu Hanyan only saw her grandfather alone and asked in confusion.

During the time she left Heishi City, spending every day with her mother, she heard quite a lot about the affairs of the Zong Family, and naturally, her grandmother was mentioned too. However, whenever her mother spoke of her grandmother, the details were always vague and filled with respect, which made Mu Hanyan very curious about this grandmother she had never met. She had assumed that upon returning to the Zong Family, she would be able to meet her, but still, she had not seen her, leading to some disappointment.

”Your grandmother has gone back to her maiden home to visit relatives and hasn’t returned yet. Today, it’s just us, grandchild and grandfather.” Mu Beichen said.

”Where is Grandmother’s maiden home?” Mu Hanyan had never heard her mother mention anything about her grandmother’s family background and was quite curious.

”Your grandmother is not from Anyun; her family is tens of thousands of miles away. The marriage between your grandmother and I faced great opposition from both families. Eventually, your grandmother, in a fit of pique, broke ties with her family and followed me back to Anyun Country. That’s why this is her first time going back in all these years, and she might stay a little longer. Let’s not talk about this, come, it’s been over a decade since we last saw each other, let’s have a couple of drinks together.” Mu Beichen obviously did not wish to elaborate on his wife’s family background and spoke somewhat evasively.

It was then that Mu Hanyan came to understand the trials her grandparents’ marriage had faced. Upon further reflection, her grandfather, as the head of a family, must have had exceptional talent, one in ten thousand, coupled with the Mu Family’s status, which made all the noble families in Anyun Country vie to form marital connections with the Mu Family. However, he had taken a fancy to a lady from outside Anyun Country. It wasn’t just the Mu Family that disagreed; surely even the Anyun Royal Family wouldn’t agree.

After all, the Mu Family’s background was too unique. Even though they had lost much of their strength after the battle with the Zhao Family and had become one of the Eight Great Families instead of the two they used to be, the Anyun Royal Family still wouldn’t dare to take them lightly, much less easily allow the Mu Family to form marital ties with a family from another country.

What intrigued Mu Hanyan the most was that not only did the Mu Family object, but the other party also disagreed. Her grandmother’s family background must not have been so simple.

Although the flame of gossip flared up in her heart, seeing that her grandfather did not want to speak further, she chose not to press the issue.

Seated with her grandfather, the food was soon served by maids.

The dishes were not extravagant but were exceedingly delicate, truly a feast for the eyes, nose, and palate.

As they ate, they chatted about interesting happenings in Heishi City, enjoying each other’s company thoroughly and not feeling the least bit lonely.

”By the way, you don’t have a suitable sword to wear; take this longsword to use.” Mu Beichen seemingly casually handed a longsword to Mu Hanyan.

Mu Hanyan received the longsword and slightly unsheathed it, immediately feeling the bone-chilling cold and sensing the vibrant spirit within the sword.

”This is...” Mu Hanyan looked at her grandfather in surprise.

”This is the Wunian Sword,” he said lightly.

”No, I can’t take this sword; please keep it, Grandfather,” Mu Hanyan said with a start, respectfully offering the sword back.

The Wunian Sword was the foremost among the seven ancestral Divine Swords of the Mu Family, ranked even above the Qingyun Sword held by Mu Chengxuan. If the Qingyun Sword was already considered a Demigod Artifact, then the Wunian Sword’s grade was naturally even higher.

Not everyone possessed Ye Lanfeng’s transcendental detachment, the pride hidden under a seemingly indifferent smile, looking down on all beneath the heavens and considering even mythical Divine Artifacts as mere rubbish. To the vast majority of swordsmen on the Holy Court Continent, a sword is their most loyal friend, family, and even life.
