Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 753: 753 if you dare to go I’ll spank your butt

The group of youths who had been chirping just moments ago suddenly quieted down. Faced with his insults, they didn’t even dare to retort, or even look him straight in the eye, instead all lowering their heads.

”Are you Mu Han Yan?” As he passed by Mu Han Yan, the young man stopped in his tracks, glanced at Mu Han Yan with a sideways look, and asked. Contempt filled his eyes and his tone was incredibly haughty, his nostrils were practically flaring skyward. Mu Han Yan even thought that if peanuts were to fall from the sky at that moment, they would likely plug up his two nostrils—although, of course, peanuts would never actually fall from the sky.

”I am Mu Han Yan. Who might you be?” Although she had no fondness for his arrogance, Mu Han Yan was not the sort of petulant lady to start hurling insults or punching someone in the face without reason. She asked calmly. Well, perhaps if the quarrel persisted, she might start hitting.

”Truly the number one playboy of Heishi City, immediately fitting in with these useless, ruinous rich kids,” the young man said with disdain, not answering her question. Then he walked away with his head held high, leaving behind only his cold and proud silhouette.

”What kind of person is that, strutting around as if he owns the place?”

”He’s just a bit stronger than us, what’s so great about him?” It wasn’t until he was far away that the youths, faces red with humiliation, spoke indignantly.

”What’s so great about being a bit stronger? He’s also several years older than us. Give me a few more years, and I might not necessarily be weaker than he is.” Someone else added disagreeably, though the claim sounded scarcely convincing.

”Cough, cough, Han Yan, you haven’t yet paid a visit to the Family Head, have you? I’ll take you there right now,” Mu Yunshui coughed twice and said to Mu Han Yan.

”All right, thank you, Ninth Tributor.” Since Mu Yunshui was acting so friendly, Mu Han Yan naturally gave him some face.

”Brother Han Yan, we’ll give you a welcoming feast tonight at Zuixiang Building. Don’t forget, okay?” Mu Zexian and the others also wagged their tails as they walked towards the gate, and after a few steps, they looked back to remind Mu Han Yan.

Seeing Ye Lanfeng’s smile that wasn’t quite a smile—the kind that said ’dare to go and I’ll spank you’—Mu Han Yan broke out in a cold sweat. She still remembered the scene where she was greeted by the ladies of a brothel while walking on the street, and Ye Lanfeng telling her with a dark face that she was not allowed to visit such places in the future. Even without his prohibition, she wouldn’t go by herself.

”Who was that person just now?” Mu Han Yan followed Mu Yunshui toward the inner courtyard, and inquisitively asked.

That young man had been rude and insulting, and even though he didn’t explicitly mention Mu Yunshui, it was somewhat inclusive, yet Mu Yunshui seemed neither angry nor dared to become angry.

”He is the eldest grandson of the Third Elder, Mu Chengxuan, and his strength is not below mine,” Mu Yunshui explained.

Hearing Mu Yunshui’s words, Mu Han Yan suddenly understood.

During the days she was away from Heishi City, she had accompanied her mother, and she was somewhat familiar with the affairs of the Mu Family.

The Third Elder belonged to the same generation as her grandfather, Mu Beichen, and had once been the most formidable competitor for the position of Family Head. However, he lost to her grandfather and missed his chance to become the Family Head. Because of this, the relationship between their family branch and the Third Elder’s was not amicable. Mu Chengxuan’s earlier remarks were probably more about intimidating her than truly demeaning Mu Zexian and the others.

It seemed that the Mu Family was not as harmonious as she had previously imagined.

Although the behavior of Mu Zexian and the others was unexpectedly different from what she anticipated, and Zhang Chihua’s worries were somewhat needless, Mu Han Yan still knew that her days within the Mu Family would probably not be very peaceful.

”By the way, not long ago, Mu Chengxuan was taken in by the Supreme Elder as a disciple, and is the only disciple the Supreme Elder has ever taken in his lifetime. Once he leaves his apprenticeship, his status will not be below mine,” Mu Yunshui added another point.

Mu Han Yan immediately grasped the reason behind Mu Yunshui’s wariness towards Mu Chengxuan.

The Mu Family clan was thriving. Some people got married and had children as soon as they came of age, while others did not have offspring until they had achieved success in their cultivation at the age of fifty or sixty. With thousands of years of inheritance, the seniority within the family had long since become convoluted. In fact, not only the Mu Family but other ancient clans also had mixed-up orders of seniority.

Therefore, although these families were bound by bloodlines, they did not determine ranking based on blood relations but on the positions held by the heads of each branch within the clan—in other words, status was determined by strength.

Don’t think that since Mu Chengxuan was much younger than Mu Yunshui, he was less significant. As a disciple of the Supreme Elder, once he completed his apprenticeship, his seniority would be equivalent to that of an elder, naturally placing him a notch above Mu Yunshui, who was ranked ninth among the Tributors. So Mu Yunshui did not dare to provoke him lightly.

Mu Han Yan looked at Mu Yunshui, who was obviously giving her a warning with his words, advising her not to easily clash with Mu Chengxuan. Should a dispute really arise, even the Family Head would not be able to show partiality towards her. After all, the status of the Supreme Elder was no lower than that of the Family Head, and may even be more detached. Her grandfather could not cover for her as her father did in Heishi City.

However, didn’t Mu Yunshui despise their ”father and son”? Why then was he giving such advice?

”Han Yan, there is something I’d like to discuss with you,” Mu Yunshui looked at Mu Han Yan with a benevolent face. More accurately, he was ingratiating himself with her.

”Ninth Tributor, please speak freely,” Mu Han Yan replied with her usual warmth, repaying kindness with kindness, and smiled broadly.

”The matters of Heishi City are not widely known, and so much time has passed, bringing it up now doesn’t serve much purpose. I think Han Yan isn’t the type to seek attention, so some matters are better left unmentioned to others,” Mu Yunshui timidly said.

Although he spoke in a roundabout way, Mu Han Yan immediately understood his implications. No wonder the old man was so affable upon their meeting. It turned out he feared she would reveal his embarrassing past.

The battle in Heishi City involving the Mu Family and several families from Zhao Zhou was tumultuous with many twists and turns. In the end, Zhao Yuanji used the Heavenly Destiny Star Plate to exhibit a terrifying power that nearly plunged the entire city of Heishi into an abyss. But aside from those directly involved in the battle, ordinary people were unaware of the details, assuming it was a dragon rising from the earth.

Even among those who took part in the battle, apart from the elders of each family who knew the specifics due to their deep family knowledge, most because of their limited perspectives were only somewhat understanding. Moreover, after the event, Mu Rui’an, to divert attention, deliberately spread certain rumors—a trick he was particularly adept at, and Lady Mu had suffered from this as well. Consequently, the story of the battle became so embellished and distorted by the time it reached the Capital that it was almost completely removed from the truth.

Because the rumors were so numerous and outlandish, Mu Yunshui getting seriously injured by Zhao Yuanji with a single palm strike and then groveling for mercy regardless of his status seemed tame by comparison, garnering little excitement. Not many people talked about it, and not many knew about it.
